  1. Just a small mockup giving an idea of the finished article.

  2. Pilot glued in and the canopy is being test fitted. I have used masking tape to define the final, I hope, cut lines. From this angle the pilot looks resigned to his fate. Cheers

  3. I was just desperate to get out to a show for the first time since the 2019 Nats, and enjoyed it more than I expected. I do like to see models that I can afford and buy demonstrated, but I agree with Jon that with the distance to the flight line, you need big models to put on a show. Besides, most artfs on sale are reviewed on YouTube!

  4. Pink is a calming colour so I wouldn't go "How Much" when the prices were double what I thought they should be. Plus they were cheap at Primark, I now know why. I'm going to repaint the Spitfire now.

Well done to today's top three! So the overall table now looks like this; Pos League Rank Team Manager Pts 1 1 0 GASTON Formula Chris McG 1254 2 2 0 Pitts Specials john stones 1217 3 3 0 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 1153 4 4 0 Essex Racing Tony Clark 1132 5 5 0 Igoronic racing iqon 1102 6 6 0 PSS Power Flyer 1055 7 7 0 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 1044 8 8 1 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 984 9 9 1 Torque of the devil Stu 980 10 10 1 teewrex John Tee 945 11 11 1 Revers Racing Pete B 917 12 12 0 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 872 13 13 0 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 798 Chris holds on to top place, despite his mid-table score today. John S holds on to 2nd, and Glenn remains third. In fact, there are just two pairs of place-changes today. Kev edges ahead of Stu, making them now 8th and 9th - though with only 4 points between them! And John T's win today gives him enough points to power ahead of Pete B, and they now occupy 10th and 11th places respectively. More of the same next weekend? We're still at the Red Bull Ring, though this time for the Austrian GP. Don't forget your predictions!

  7. Hi Gary Thanks for the thought, but that's one that came up on a google search, and is not the answer. Did, however, start me thinking, and I think I've cracked it. Two things that came up on the same search. In order to save a setting, I need to press both Menu and Exit at the same time. That seems to work. The other is that if you change the model type, again pressing Menu and Exit, that will wipe out all the settings on that particular memory. Tried it now many times, and it seems to work ok. So, thanks to you and FlyinFinn, case closed. Jeff

  8. Two lips from Amsterdam? Shame - I like the Dutch...and the Czechs, but one had to go out. It all went to pieces after the sending off - I still wouldn't like to have been responsible for deciding if it was deliberate.

  10. Looking very good. I installed my pilot and then installed the canopy getting what I considered to be a perfect result, no scratches and no glue marks. However, the pilot then decided to go walkabout, (or try to escape), so I had to strip it all out again!! The resulting canopy is less than perfect, but passes the Peter Miller 50ft rule. (That's 15.24M for those of us in the EU!)

  11. Jonathan , I had a batch of X mounts made a while back so will send you one when I post the decals. On another note it was great to meet some of the gang at Wings and Wheels on Saturday . Glynn , Paul Johnson , Graham Davies (of Tempest fame ) and the wise guru, Professor Von Drake (our very own Eric )all showed up . Eric won the longest distance award by a multiple of ten . The other slackers didnt leave their own county .... Nobody bought much . Dont know what that means .?

  14. I seem to recall that a major issue that caused us in part at least to be embroiled in all of this, was that no one was able to come up with a satisfactory description that would legally be able to separate (identify?) Drones from model aeroplanes, hence all lumped together as we are now. Quite extraordinary when you think about it, so I doubt if any specific demarcation will be available now - and does it really matter anyway seeing as we are where we are?

  15. Sadly, Covid seems far from defeated. Unlikely to ever be defeated, we will just have better defences - defences we are building by vaccinating. But with around 50% of the population not fully vaccinated, there is still scope for increased infection and, of course, new variants that may prove more resistant. Whilst cases on the East Coast of Yorkshire where I live are low, we are still advised not to travel to visit relatives and friends who live in areas with high numbers of cases; or in areas where we'd need to travel through the more infected areas. Fingers crossed that vaccination continues rapidly and this soon changes. On a brighter note, the garden has been well looked after, and I repaired/refurbished around a dozen airframes. The road from my house to the flying field has been totally resurfaced and is currently beautifully smooth. Speed bumps have appeared locally (a first for this rural area), to try and slow down traffic (mainly motor cycles), and thanks to retirement (age) I have flown more than ever in the last 15 months, despite not being allowed out at times. Staycation has meant that the roads have been awash with caravans and camper vans, also slowing down traffic! Our exercise sessions moved on line, which has not stopped my wife training for her third dan black belt in Shotokan karate - the recent relaxation of rules allowing her to practice elements that can only be done face to face. My workshop remains a mess! With bits of aeroplanes everywhere: my SE5 is in bits again i was given a very small, slippery fast beasty that needs refurbishment my P47 stands in the corner awaiting covering my VMC Tiger Moth nears the covering stage my Typhoon and Corsair are both hung up awaiting undercarriage fettling... It's all been a bit of a curates egg really! GG

  17. Its quite difficult to get empirical data on that but I have heard quite a lot of anecdotal evidence from clubs who have promoted the scheme to suggest it makes those clubs a more safe environment. I firmly believe the scheme has been and remains the best driver of improved standards of safety and flying ability.

  19. I haven't gone to sleep or got bored with the build (yet???) but I promised to only post stuff to do with the I/C 'differences', so, whilst photos have been taken of the normal build parts of the tailplane , fin etc, here is the work that I've done to the cowls. These cowls have taken up a lot of building time but it doesn't show in the finished item! I decided to fit the ply cowl covering before fitting them to the wings as I felt that it would be easier to do that now rather than later. I drew up a template on paper and then transferred that to the ply which was cut using scissors. I then stuck it to the cowl framework using cyano which will be reinforced on the inside when I fuel proof / epoxy the cowls. I've also added an additional thin strip of the same ply to the rear edge which will provide a 'seat' for the plastic rear cowl covering. I did add a strip of balsa to the back of the firewall to provide a wider surface to stick the ply to. I've also added strip balsa to the top edge of the ply to give it some lateral support. Notice the angle of the ply which is due to the down thrust built into the firewall. Drain pipe motor cowling attached, all lines up.

  20. Hello Nick I reworked my old Acrowot over the winter. Now in the air and has become my goto model for now. They do fly very well. I have stuck with a single central servo for ailerons which is just fine although I do prefer to use two. I used car spray paint for the Fus and Oracover for wings etc. Suggest you use a Dubro fuel tank as they can be set up to have a double clunk which makes defuel at the end of a flying session very simple. I always use 3 colours for fuel pipes. Clear for feed to carb. red for pressure feed and green for refuel/defuel. Ref instructions in original kit ref side thrust I did not follow for the rebuild and I put engine on with no side thrust and that seems fine with my selected engine(OS55 2 Stroke). My original build was with an OS70 4 stroke and it always needed rudder to correct a vertical climb. Not so now. Anyway have fun on your build.

  21. Here’s my Warbird Replicas Lavochkin 7, built by me over the last year. It’s got a Laser 80 in it but is unflown. As I work abroad that won’t happen until the end of the summer. Its been painted by a friend, the colours are a bit off, a result of the photo being transferred several times and then printed. However, he’s made such a good job of it that I don’t care. Maybe it will be easier to see in flight. It weighs in at 10lb 10 oz, 2 oz overweight to the figures give by Richard. I’ll touch up the control horns and dirty it up a bit, add panel lines too. But it was easy to build and looks great.

  22. E-Flite Opterra. Always fancied one of these despite it being somewhat expensive for what it is, but life is short and it was my birthday a few days ago so why not I thought.
