  2. The Meatbox got some more air time at the LleynMAC PSSA meet, off of a slope I'd not flown before - Cim Farm South. It has a lovely landing area but the lift wasn't overly buoyant for the windspeed, which could have been down to meteorological effects I guess. Anyway, she flew well enough and landed without mishap this time! She is now 2 flights old. Many thanks to Phil for the excellent photos as always.

  3. Glad I traveled up for a few hours. Great flying before the rain. Managed to get a few pics. I'll learn one day how to use my camera. Nice to catch up with the lads. Cheers Ade

  5. A NEW VIRUS The NILE Virus, type C We are still battling the COVID-19 and the next thing is here already. Virologists have identified a new Nile virus - type C. It appears to target those who were born between 1930 & 1970. Symptoms:Causes you 1. To send the same message twice. 2. To send a blank message. 3. To send a message to the wrong person. 4. To send it back to the person who sent it to you. 5. To forget to attach the attachment. 6. To hit SEND before you've finished. 7. To hit DELETE instead of SEND. 8. To SEND when you should DELETE. It is called the C-NILE virus! And if you cannot admit to doing the above, you have obviously caught the mutated strain the D-NILE virus.

  6. Two men were discussing the politics of the day and one said that in his opinion most politicians were "post tortoises" The other intrigued asked what was a post tortoise? Well when you are driving down the road and you see a tortoise on a post , that is a post tortoise Seeing the bafflement on the others face he continued, well you know he couldn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do, elevated beyond his ability to function and you wonder what kind of idiot put him there

  9. Yes, I seem to remember having to shave a bit off the ends of the dihedral brace.

  10. Looks like the dihedral brace is up against the rib at the end of bay 1. Perhaps thats preventing a close fit. Bit of fettling required on those ends might be possible. Don't go mad remove a little at a time using sanding block.

  11. Thanks Ron, I was also going to add that.

  12. Hi Jonathon, Looking at the pictures I would say NO they are not ready for joining.Glue is only used for joining material together. There is absolutely no strength in glue the way your thinking of using it. You need to look at why there is such a large gap. If it is because the ribs are set at different angles there is probably not a lot you can do. What you may be able to do is to add a facing of balsa to the end of the rib and carefully sand it so that the top is almost sanded away and the bottom where there was once a gap is now filled with the facing balsa. when the faces of both wings meet it can then be glued. You can either use PVA or epoxy. I hope that helps. If not come back on here.

  13. What is preventing them coming together without a gap?

  14. How about 1/3 to 1/2 way out on each wing leading edge, like a pair of landing lights .... good effect as plane is turning and coming towards you ? You will lose a lot of the effect of them on the top of the tail or under / top of the fuselage ...... You could fit both in the nose cowl pointing forward though .... But i like the wings idea. cheers Ian

  15. Just a 60 second clip highlighting the beautiful late evening sun, fresh rows of grass, forest treetops and distant mountains. (Sound On, and HD is best, but the embedded browser maybe doesn’t allow HD… hmm) Happy to have captured this footage, and wanted to share. Cheers!

  16. Dick, batteries are not that old. A couple of dozen flights and I charge at the 80 percent rule. But they have been used in a fun fly, Overlander 35c.

  17. Thanks Jon, super clear. I couldn't possibly comment about engine location and looks, but my Aircobra looks ok and engine/tank position is ok ? Oh I see what you mean...some don't like the look from the starboard side, but it suits me and the engine and that's all that counts!

  19. @martin collins 1I didn't take any photos of the loosely put together bits but I'm going to do it again later so will take some then! In the meantime here are some progress photos, not necessarily just to do with the I/C side of things! Having looked into the Frise ailerons in a lot more detail (for that read a LOT of time) I've decided against them. The problem I encountered was that to get them at least something like scale, i.e. with the hinge line notably below the aileron's surface I just couldn't position them correctly; its a combination of aileron thickness and width. I've not totally ditched the idea and may come back to them later, after the initial flights. So, ailerons and flaps sanded to shape and hinged Flap servos added (I 3D printed a plate for them to sit on/in) My usual 3D printed servo fixing plates Which sit neatly in the provided ply servo boxes Wing location dowels fitted, drilled holes through former, positioned wing, dowel hole locations marked in wing LE and dowels glued in wing using Gorilla Glue (brown), wing repositioned with plastic sheet in between to prevent any excess glue sticking the wing to the fuse! Whilst not included in the kit (?) wing fairings formed using triangular balsa with saw cuts and wetted to form to the wing profile (note plastic sheet in between to protect wing veneer from water, will be left in for when I glue the fairing pieces in place)

  20. Produced pretty rough MDF plug and tried it - wow it worked ?? 2L Coke bottle not long enough so will do in two parts: Some imperfections (e.g. front wedge too wide so bottom front did form properly and not as smooth as I would like) - But, am mega pleased with first attempts - MUCH easier than I expected ? ? ?

  21. When I was in the RAF we went on detachment to Orland, Brekstadt on the Trondheim Fjord twice a year. January and June. In the summer it never got dark and in the winter it was only light about 3 hours. I remember going Cod fishing from the banks of the Fjord at 01.00 in daylight in June, the Sun just kissed the horizon then rose again. Bacon on a bit of string to get crabs then bait the hook with the crab and haul in good size Cod which went straight over a fire we built in the rocks. I did a couple of skydives at the club they had at Orland airfield, fantastic views. Cross-country skiing in the winter. Beware going past the local school at 3pm. The kids came rattling out of the school yard on their plastic ski's and didn't stop for anyone. As for the booze, apart from hotels it was supposed to be a dry country so everyone brewed their own moonshine. It was so prevalent that the supermarkets sold essence of Brandy, essence of Whisky or whatever to flavour your moonshine. We went to a midsummer festival where they were only selling Tea, Coffee, Fanta and CocaCola. I've never seen so many people so drunk in one place in all my life!!! Come midnight the dance floor was covered in people sleeping it off! Another amazing thing about the summer was that I've never seen so many Hedgehogs, they were all over the place. Thanks for the videos. Aaaah! Happy days?
