been a long time but managed a test flight last week ,no undue surprises everything worked fine even the much anticipated landing was a non event came in steady for a smooth touchdown, ive only done the bare minimum of finishing to get it flying and now starts the long process of detailing not a lot of rivets and thats a bonus the cockpit and canopy is a diffrent matter lots of work with that. it didnt need any balast in the front for the cg which is surprising for a mossi the batteries probably made up for it.12 points

Sorry for the late response. I finally found out the root of the problem. Having checked out several batteries- all on Balance Charge all at 1C I found that they were all taking a long time to charge- up to three hours! However, all of similar voltage/cell, and of similar, acceptable internal resistanceThen a fellow club member came up with the cause. There's an initial setting on the Sky RC charger, where it gives the option of DC charge current, whilst operating off AC. Mine was set as below in thee first image, giving only 5w total charge. I adjusted the DC supply to 0, and that brought the supply of permissable charge to my battery of 50w. Just recharged a 2200mah 3S 60C battery this afternoon after flying which was discharged to 3.8v/ cell, up to full charge took 40 minutes! Very acceptable. Many thanks for all your replies. Very much appreciated! And, I have to say that I have always used the balance charge mode on the charger. Boy- I've learned a lot about LiPos and charging in the last few days! ps- the bottom photo is that of a club mate's Overlander charger, which is virtually a rebranded Sky RC.3 points

Evening all! Azerbaijan this weekend! (Did I spell that correctly?) So before anything else, the customary reminder; Don't forget your predictions! P1 was punctuated by red flags following crashes by Leclerc and Colapinto. Verstappen set fastest time in the disrupted session, just over 0.3 s ahead of Hamilton with Perez third fastest. Norris was 4th with Sainz 5th. P2 saw Leclerc set fastest time, just six-thousandths of a second faster than Perez, with Hamilton 3rd fastest, just 6-hundredths of a second slower. A bit of a gap then to Saiz, Piastri and Verstappen. P3 is tomorrow at 9:30 UK-time, followed by qualifying at 13:00. Sunday's race starts at noon. Good luck everyone, and get those predictions done now if you haven't aready! You can always change them after P3 tomorrow if needed!2 points

Nigel, I don't know what the manufacturer's intentions were, though it looks as if the aileron horns couldn't be positioned any further forward due to the chamfer. It would have helped if they had fitted horns which were raked forward so that the holes were directly under the hinge line. You may be able to find some and fit them yourself. Failing that, if you move the servo horn to be 30- 45 degrees, instead of the 15 degrees or so it is now, it will give you the more-up-than-down movement you're seeking, you'd just need some longer pushrods, which you can bend to the desired length.2 points

The angle of the aileron horns will depend on the relative position of the aileron hinge line. In this case the angled horn is to is to get the horn pivot point perpendicular to the hinge line and not to create differential. The differential movement (more up than down) is created by the forward angle of the servo arm. A simple diagram of your Ruckus aileron linkage would help establish what is happening.2 points

Better than cutting your own grass is to buy in a commercial grass cutting firm that cuts a local sports / recreation / school field. No more arguments in the club about grass cutting, Their machinery is usually far more suitable for the acrerage of grass to be cut. Our field costs £65 per cut and we budget for £20 cuts per year. Club fees more than doubled as a result but it has secured the future of the club as we are no longer dependant on one or two people using ill suited domestic mowers2 points

Yes the pistons are different for the side exhaust and rear exhaust configurations. The piston cutouts are different. The first picture is side exhaust piston. Second from rear exhaust version. Pictures from NGH instructions manual that came with my engine. The new engine from factory came with both options in the box and the user could change from one to another prior to first start and run in procedure.2 points

I have just removed an OS 40FP from a model (unscheduled arrival.....). I remember purchasing it new back in the 90's. 100% reliable engine. Best engine ever.2 points

That looks an excellent resource, Matty. Congratulations on completing this, it shows what progress you have made since your injury. Let's hope it can provide inspiration to others who may be unfortunate enough to suffer such a life-changing experience.2 points

Always a great show at Cosford. Some superb masterpieces of aeromodelling on display and sometimes real persistence to overcome problems and get them flying on the day.1 point

I have noticed the aileron servo arms my on my low-wing foamy (Max Thrust Ruckus) are both off centre by the same amount at neutral - the arms are angled forward (towards leading edge) rather than being at right angle. These are pre-installed and set-up in the factory. Because they are angled by exactly the same amount I assumed that it was deliberate to create differential ailerons mechanically, but when I check operation they are the opposite to what I would expect - they move more down than up, I thought it should be the other way round. What are your thoughts?1 point

Close, but no cigar. I'm off to Italy until the 25th. When I return that doesn't leave much time to finish and maiden her before BOB@B at the end of the month 🙉1 point

There's no differential intent there, maybe the spline won't allow 90% if it does do it and adjust pushrod, just lazy work by worker under time pressure, piece work.1 point

Is this what you need :- https://www.justengines.co.uk/shop/engine-spares/two-stroke-spares/a-s-p-two-stroke-spares/a-s-p-s25-spares/?v=79cba1185463 Shows one gasket on the back plate and two on the head.1 point

There's your answer, the aileron horn is set further back from the hinge line than the servo arm is in front of the servo pivot. You would need to add more servo differential, easily done with replacing the push rods with slightly longer ones.1 point

Wishful thinking being done, probably only way to stop a cutter is jam it ala chainsaw clothing, belive it's kevlar strands, only works till blades cleared though.1 point

Rebar is easily cut with a metal cutting disc, wood will slow it down but it will still cut through it. Thick fabric is quite good as is thick plastic (it melts and clogs the blade)1 point

So do I - really don't see any advantage whatsoever to not using the balance charge facility. I consider it best practice to balance charge and to monitor individual cell voltage in use every flight and every charge, to turn up any potential degradation. Have only started to more regularly monitor individual cell IR as well.1 point

Lining the interior with rebar mesh welded on would make it more difficult get into . Yes it can be cut but is more difficult than the thin sheet metal currently used on containers and also will leave sharp spikes for the low life to negotiate. Might be worth checking if BMFA insurance covers us incase the thieves hurt themselves and counter claim ! I say this with tonge in cheek but the world has gone mad.😶1 point

Seems to me that whether club gear is stolen or not is really a matter or chance as much as anything. Bad luck to be targetted in the first place, whether thieves are disturbed during the theft, problems with removing the gear and removing it from the site - a number of issues really. Security cameras are fine and by all means fit them if you can, but they don't seem to be very effective as a deterrent. What happens if a security system warns of a break in? The chances of the police getting to a flying site and catching the thieves in the act is unlikely, and dealing with the situation independently runs all sorts of risks. I don't see any effective solution other than keeping nothing of value at your field, which would be very inconvenient and not practical for most clubs trying to maintain a high quality and regularly maintained patch.1 point

Hi Bert .Just Engines website states a different piston is required for rear exhaust. If its running ok then it must have correct piston1 point

PANDAS have had two really nice ride-on mowers nicked, our lock-up is like Fort Knox, huge 1/4 steel boxes around everything and an internal wall to divide the container. The first time they cut the hinges off, second time went through the side & smashed the alarm. Both must have made an awful din but no-one noticed until the following morning. Theres no defending against these targeted thefts, they come properly tooled up, they know exactly what to expect and are in and gone in minutes.1 point

Ron I”ve just given that a go, and it works thanks, everyday is a school day, I had the same problem with my Hanky Planky pic which you kindly put right. @ edge flyer, I hope it is a good inverted flyer I have been told it’s just as capable upside down as it is upright, time will tell. After the glue dries, it’s on to the fiddly bits like control surfaces and hatches, and pushrods. But may have to wait a bit as work beckons, so maybe weekend if the weather is bad. steve1 point

My own club suffered a loss of some equipment a few years back worth around a couple of grand or so. Kept in as secure a place as possible but nothing able to resist battery powered angle grinders and a bit of determination. The loss was covered by the BMFA affiliated club insurance so we were not out of pocket but obviously seriously inconvenienced. We had another attempt to steal equipment some while later but the thieves must have been disturbed or thought better of it for whatever reason and our kit wasn't taken. We've increased our security again by investing in a number of measures and with help from a local farmer a few weak spots in the field perimeter have been tightened up to make vehicular access more difficult. If the bad guys want your stuff they'll have it, but just make it as difficult as possible and keep a watchful eye out for people casing your field or flying site.1 point

A lot of chargers have an option to tweak the final voltage setting, sometimes deep down in one of the menues. Check the manual to see if that is available. Keep in perspective - you are looking at measuring two hundredth of a volt, that variation is to be expected in a mass market product and can be affected by dirty contacts &/or substandard balance leads. As long as it is charging consistently & balancing the cells I would not worry too much about it.1 point
-
Does your charger have a 90% charge option that you have activated in error? Otherwise it does look like you need a new charger.1 point

Well the one down the road (Land Rover) just looks really odd with no reflection and the impression that its been through a sandstorm before leaving the forecourt, but each to their own.1 point

Tosh - I balance charge every time and it certainly doesn't take three hours. Balance charging is best practice. As I said the other day, it's the very last bit of the charge that does take a little longer, If your charger is capable you could try setting your maximum charge level to something less than 4.20v/cell - say 4.18v/cell and see if that makes a difference in charge time. You could also try charging just one pack at a time and noting whether one charging port is different in timing. One thing does spring to mind and I'm not familiar with the balance port configuration of your charger - if you are using balance boards plugged into each port you could try taking the plug out and remaking that connection afresh. If you have a multimeter you might check that your charging leads are in good condition, with low resistance.1 point

Aha! You may have the missing clue there, ED! I am using "balance charge" mode! I can't remember, but, from what you're writing, since this has just come about, I must have been using just the "charge" setting previously? So, presumably, it's OK to just charge the batteries on regular "charge" mode, as opposed to "balance charge"? If that's the case, when would I use the "balance charge" setting opon the charger with my liPo batteries?1 point

More successful flying with Dad on Friday evening at my location this time, anwe are off for another go later today and the modified longer stx sticks seem a big improvement though long term I still think moving to mode 2 may be easier for me, but at the moment I want to continue with mode 1 as practicing the fine dexterity needed to controll the elevator with my left hand is probably good for me!!!1 point

u/c nearly done just req some more work on the door guards the axle cover will be fitted when final assembly occurs, next to receive attention were the moulds for the cowls and canopy, forgot to mention its a scaled up bt design with a 100"span giving it a scale of6.5:1,once i got the difficult bits done moved onto the airframe.fuz was done first with lots of planking built in 2 half shells then joined much like the full size the tailcone is a glass moulding unlike brians which is balsa, great care was took to build the tailplane and fin as light as possible due to cg concerns, wing is conventional construction with the addition of the nacelles.1 point
