  1. A man who was the epitome of the 'Traditional British Modeller', a truly 'Shedly man'. I conversed with him via email over his Firefly 46 and always got a reply. One of the worlds true gentlemen. RIP, yours are big boots to fill.
  2. Yes, the same Phil as on Aeromodellers site. Sadly Phil passed away at 16:40 this afternoon. RIP
  3. Phil has been struggling with ill health for the last 20yrs, multiple heart attacks and spinal problems. The bad news is he was sent home from Hospital about a month ago after being told his prognosis wasn't good (ie "we're sending you home to die" He was rushed to hospital on Wednesday and his sons were called a day or so ago to be told he has about 48hrs. His 3 sons are holding a bedside vigil and I'd like all who knew Phil to spare a thought for him in these last moments. I'll keep you posted.   Edited By David Ashby - Moderator on 18/10/2020 16:06:52

    TRAPPED

Thanks Pete, too many of the modelling friends just disappear. I'd like to think that relatives and children would tell us the sad news, but they don't.

    TRAPPED

Has anyone "seen" OneTenor lately? I haven't been aware of him since mid August and now I'm getting a bit worried.
  6. My apologies if this has already been mentioned, the full size had its fin set at an angle of 7degrees to counteract prop wash (if memory serves) are we intending to do the same?

    TRAPPED

Thanks for asking Steve, John is back with us thanks to all the help on here. He's going to be out of action for a while, while his hips heal.

Hi John, sorry didn't get the no email bit, PM sent with your new password, I went on as you and it worked fine.

    TRAPPED

Hi John, we mods can't see a persons password, if we could there wouldn't be any point! I changed your password and sent you an email with your new password, didn't you get it? I'm going to change your password again to what I've sent in your email.

    TRAPPED

I changed your password this AM John, email sent with the new one. Get well soon, excellent news on the hips.
  11. Does anyone have any pics of the pilots who would have flown the Fury? My apologies if I've missed them in the thread.
  12. Ernie, my plates arrived this week, fabulous, thank you. My SWIMBO is not very understanding, all my parts from Saric are still sitting in the corner of my work area.
  13. Hi Klippy Glad to hear that you enjoy the hobby in Lephalale as well, were do you get your stuff from? Hi Chris, Mostly from Hobby King or Banggood, but when I'm in the UK I use SMC or SLEC. Here in SA I've used Hobby Mania, I find them excellent.
  14. Thanks Chris, try living 60kms from Lephalale (Ellisras)! RC might be expensive for us but I wouldn't live anywhere else!
  15. Thanks Danny, my life is falling apart at the moment, SWMBO has decided we have to renovate our house!
  16. I recently changed over to Cura 3.4.1, it's great! I have been printing from the SD card but have now changed to USB printing. I am using Windows 10 64 bit, I now get "wait for user..." which requires that I press the function button on my printer. Does anyone know why this is happening? It never happened with the SD card!
  17. Slic3r will also scale for you.
  18. Pride commeth before a fall Martian! I think we're all earning T shirts here! I home the Z then move it up 4.9mm, I then check the bed using a 5mm drill and just roll it under the hot nozzle at the 4 corners. Slack the nuts until the drill just binds then tighten 1/8 turn. This gives a first layer of about .24mm. All filaments are not created equal, black, from a company called CRON adheres very well, the same component using the white filament from Banggood (at double the price) won't stick at all and needs a raft, selectable in Cura. I've grown tired of playing 'swop the SD card' and am now connected via USB. You must install the CH340 drivers and connect via the front panel, I'm guessing the rear panel is USB 3. I get no hesitation in the print (reported by some) but then I'm using Windows 10 64bit. Be warned you must disable screen saving and sleep mode otherwise the Anet reboots.
  19. Awesome, thanks Martian. Ernie, please include me in for a set of those etched parts.
  20. I decided to get an Airfix 1:72 plastic kit to use as a reference during the build, I am close-ish to a model shop for a few days but my kit is 200miles away! Can anyone give me the Humbrol paint numbers for the SAARF version? So I can order paint.
  21. I bought the A6, not much difference between the 2, but, I found all the holes for the slide rails were 8.5mm, thus allowing the rails to slop around. I drilled and tapped the rail supports3mm and fitted grub screws to hold the slides, much better. Another mod I did is to mount the whole printer on a piece of Melamine, drilled and tapped through from the underside, the whole printer is now an order of magnitude more rigid
  22. Glow for me, I bought a Laser from Phil Claridge, I'm hoping to use that.
  23. Hi Chris, I have found the Multiplex FunCub and Blizzard to be very tolerant, but at the cost of increased elevator sensitivity the further back you go. I have a feeling that this is normally the case.
  24. Greetings from sunny SA, please include me in on all the sundries. My kit is still on the water along with all my sisters household stuff, it'll be here about mid June, they say!
