Leicester Model Center Harrier Gr1 / Gr3
BrianB replied to Brian_B's topic in All Things Model Flying
I built one of these kits many years ago and it built up into a really lovely model, looked very realistic with flashing beacons.Powered with a HP 61 Gold cup with a tuned pipe going into the right hand engine intake and exiting via the front nozzle so it was well hidden. Only had one flight but it flew vey well and looked good in the air.The main weakness was the main undercarriage wheel mounting which was a very poor design and broke away as soon as it touched down. The landing was not hard but it was on grass. I saw the prototype flown by LMC at the Nationals, flew great, but as soon as it landed on the tarmac the u/c broke away.Should you go ahead with the build Brian pay attention to the mounting it really needs to be much stonger but you will end up with a really great aircraft. Simple question to the editor. Is the magazine moving onto a bi-monthly basis permanently ,or is this just temporary? If temporary, how long?

I have read all of the above with interest and agree with much of what has been stated, although some of the comments made are,in my opinion, rubbish.I am not happy with the proposals as they stand but I see little option other than complying if they become law.The reason in one word is:INSURANCE.Fly without registering and you break the law, have an accident and your insurance will almost certainly be void as you are flying illegally.I really cannot imagine our insurers with the BMFA saying `don`t worry lads you will still be covered`

Very nice surprise this morning, came home to find a totally unexpected parcel,a Dumas Waco kit.Seems I won the recent prize draw and never even knew. Many thanks to all at RCM & E for a pleasant surprise.

Has anyone completed a Tiger 72 with a ic engine fitted yet?I am busy building one for a friend which will be fitted with a OS 90 F/S and would appreciate any info on how far back the revised former F1 should be.In order to get the correct right thrust incorporated I expect that the right hand side should be shortened by slightly over 1/8th of an inch.Any help appreciated.

As per Alan Hilton,I bought the ARTF Flair Cap 232 and it was totally un -flyable.It was so bad that I complained to Flair and was totally stunned when they agreed it was considered a complete dog of a model.I was told they only had 2 or 3 left in stock and when they were sold they would not supply any more! I was offered a new Flair Giles as it was in a horrible Pink colour scheme! Turned out to be a fantastic model, and apparently in much demand, eventually gave it to my flying pal and he has just passed it on to another mutual pal.
