Two questons in one thread - opionions please
Andy Meade replied to MikeQ's topic in PSSA General Chat
That's a lovely Corsair, and yes would be great off the slope I'm sure. Not sure on the Yak, but if you fancy it, give it a go and see what happens. -
I've also got a plan from a guy in the states that built one around 80 inches, complete with all the DXF's to get a laser cut kit done. Let me know if you go for it Mike, it's one I'd like to build too, probably at Chris' scale as its a bit more portable. Plus he has the canopy plug!

I'm glad she had a good maiden. Small dings and blemishes seem to be part of slope life!

If you need a hand with the CAD & STL files, let me know. Happy to help out 👍

That looks like a great set up for the ordnance. As for the tip tanks, in my limited experience with flying PSS'ers with them (JP, Fouga, F104) I've always found the aircraft to feel much more "locked in" with them on. I've found that printing tip tanks in "vase mode" produces a great, light alternative vac moulding ABS.

If you're using releases, be sure to check the C of G with and without them. My F100 can only have some of its armament on for static display because of the huge shift!

How tough and durable are SLA printed parts - bellcrank for 3m glider
Andy Meade replied to MikeQ's topic in 3D Printing
For sure, on the airframes and bigger parts, it's definitely so-able. For smaller parts like that tailplane bellcrank, I'd be really tempted to try and make a 3d printed compression mould, and mould it from carbon. -

The other thing that effects printed resin strength is the cure. Over-curing can make very brittle parts, which can be hard to avoid of course if the item is exposed to UV (the sun) a lot. This can be mitigated by mixing your own resin cocktail - one with a bit of flex mixed in proportion. I use my SLA printers for fine detail parts, and definitely wouldn't consider them fit for structural parts like this - I think you've chosen the right path! I actually think I'd trust a high infill PETG filament printed part way more than a resin part in this case. -
That is a lovely finish you've got on her so far Mike, can't wait to see her in that 3 tone camo!

Phil's F-86 Sabre build thread

That yellow and blue does ping well in good light 😎 -
Great stuff guys, hope the sunburn is settling down now!
-
Great work on the canopy! Nearly there.
-
Great set of photos as always Phil, many thanks.

A little bit of a tail-chase video we made on the Saturday. I was flying my DJI FPV drone, chasing Phil's DAM T33 on the slope.

Soulless for me are mass-produced moulded gliders. Sure, they do a great job when you need them - maybe testing the lift out, a light wind day, or something to chuck ballast into and hare around with. A good "tool" to have, but no soul. Plus these days they all look so similar.

C17 Globemaster III - 1/15th Scale for PSS
Andy Meade replied to Andy Meade's topic in PSS Build Blogs
At long last, and after some horrible luck with a flap servo wire that caught fire last year on an attempted maiden, she has at last felt air under her wings. Two great launches by a hardy crew of PSS'ers on the Orme yesterday in a fantastic 55mph SW blow into the big bowl. A great big pussycat to fly of course! Photo's by our fearless leader Phil Cooke as always. -
That's looking super Gary, great job! Looking forward to a flight report when you can (big SW this weekend btw!)

Sutton Bank slope soaring

Or if using Google Maps, click on layers and then click terrain. -
One of the interesting things on the Buzz is that the socket is dual-direction. The car can act as a storage battery for your house electrics. Definitely on my short list once our Mitsubishi PHEV has reached end of life.

I'd be tempted to do this in "ABS-like" resin, which can be polished to a lovely finish on the inside face. Temp and chemical resistance both great.

I see the X18's are just getting out to beta testers (I guess that's what they are?), should see some reviews soon. More than happy with my X20S, and don't think the smaller screen would be too great anyway. Looking at getting the X24 is (when!) it appears and retire the X20S to just powered aircraft flying.

I really wish I'd brought along my Panther for some formation flying Dirk! Great work on the model - she looks brilliant in the air. -

Dave didn't fly the skyvan in the end, as he felt the wing was a bit too floppy without the proper engagement of his struts. I think he's going to let-in a spar and sort the struts, then she'll be good to go. -
Lovely pics as always chief, many thanks for putting the time in both taking them and editing them.
