  1. Like his designs - will try one one day.... yes from me VA
  2. 1 to 3 includes one - but as I go to one only - and you as well as it looks - the result suggests that we go to more than one. By the way - in the meantime a new line has been added - 1. so Beth is listening and is very quick.... VA
  3. You could have put 1 only as a choice as well, as I am sure it is not only me going to one event per year. For me the "one" is the nats this year. VA
  4. Pyrotechnic articles are not only in planes - look at your cars - if you are not driving a real historic vehicle you will have 1 or more airbags, and probably seat belt pre-tensioners. The latter are there since years - and not only in supercars. How do I know? - well I crashed my 6-year old Vectra in 2001 and it had already seat belt pre-tensioners....They are all activated by pyrotechnics. Of course the load will be higher to get a seat out of a crashing plane, but the technology and safety will be quite similar I suppose. And I think the number of erratic exploded air-bags or pre-tensioned belts is pretty limited. VA
  5. Ken - I am using Mozilla firefox exactly at this moment ( from my company laptop where I have it installed since a month. - yes - not much going on this week ) and I do not particularly like it. I didn't find a way to stop the burning fox to offer me to save passwords - especially annoying if you go on bank web sites where you have to use a digipass or secure key or whatever you call them. Also I am not happy with the bookmarks - much clearer in explorer or chrome. VA, no burning fox fan department
  6. High street shops still have them. For instance Als hobbies MK. I still have 3 planes using them -the 2 high wing trainers I inherited 2 weeks ago and the good old Web-bit . Only thing I noticed is that they do not last very long. So I suppose what is in some of the shops is quite old - and under tension the tensile strength goes quickly. I store them in a dark drawer (no UV light as this may age them) and never store a model with the elastic bands on. VA
  7. Windows 10 upgrade went without problems, the screen issues were explained by others so I could sail around, only disturbing thing is that Norton doesn't support Edge (the new internet browser) so far. Ok, edge into the box and internet explorer out of the box. VA
  8. By the way - quite a strong presence of the Milton Keynes MAA - officers: Paul G (chairman, trade & flying, showline, Diamond ), Jonathan W (trade), Simon T (trade) So keep your purses under control. No problem for me - my wife will accompany me VA
  9. Will be there Saturday - and I repeat Andy's question: Are we meeting and if yes - Where are we meeting ? VA
  10. Just to grab that old thread - anybody going to the nats this year? VA, going.
  11. As we are in the RCME forum the chances that you have a hot air gun are good - use it, it works perfect. of course you need to be patient and try not to burn the surface. And if you don't have a hot air gun - consider purchasing one - they are marvelous for building but also for getting that old foil coating straight and tidy again. Not to forget they shrink you shrink tubes on connectors. Hot air gun - one of my workshop essentials... VA
  12. Same everywhere. 4 to 5 out of approximately 50. And I have to count me in as occasional this year as I do too much house renovation..... But as mentioned before - as long as you have enough paying members it is fine. And: Ever flown with 5 planes or more in the air? Gets a bit crowded if they don't do formation.... VA
  13. Posted by Erfolg on 09/07/2015 11:46:04: I am looking forward to the September issue along with many more people. Not having flown any DF, are they intrinsically different to fly? Although i would guess it is the take of, or launch that is the biggest issue? Carl, The launch is a problem, I ruined my foamy EDF F9F Panther by trying to launch myself - ok it is repaired but not the same as it was... As long as the thing is speeding there is not much difference, when you fly a bit slower there is not much reaction from the control areas. but as you are always experimenting with unusual 2nd world war birds it shouldn't be a problem for you - as long as you find a person who is launching the thing. I am playing with the idea of trying this Tony Niijhuis model - would be nice from asphalt but our filed is grass. And of course there are a few other projects in the pipeline leaving alone the never ending house renovation... Projects in the pipeline: Tucano (RCME), Curare 60, Cygnet, Bobcat 40 II not to mention all the repairs.... so the hawk has to wait a bit... VA
  14. Having an Hyperion EOS 720i charger there should be the possibility to connect it to a PC - but I think the information I get from the built in display is good enough. for me most important parameters are balance (voltage per cell) and internal resistance (which goes up if the lipo is giving up...) and I do log this - in a very old fashion way... I have a printed & adhesive table glued to my batteries where I tick boxes for each times I recharge and every 10 charges I note the internal resistance. Ok, not really sophisticated - but works also when the computer/phone/tablet crashes... VA, old man department
  15. Will-o - this is the clear winner VA
  16. After the uncle of one of our neighbours passed away I was chosen as the heir of the uncles model stuff. I am pleased as I am living in Newport only for 16 month. So what is it? No - not the super jet collection, but 2 trainers, one brand new and from approximately 2009, unfinished. It came together with a brand new engine. Its a bobcat 40 from a Taiwanese company called C&Y, wingspan 1480mm. the engine is a sc40 2 stroke. There is a slight hangar rush at one of the wings, but this can be repaired with a few pieces of foil. The second plane is an unknown 3-channel trainer, with quite a bit of dihedral. It is a bit smaller and has a totally gummed up Enya 19 in front. It looks like plan built and needs a bit of TLC. But I will try to leave as much as possible in original condition, as it is nice to have a real oldtimer... Wings look like foam with veneer coating, and after that a tissue and dope cover. Anybody out there who has an idea what this could be? But it is not only planes - I got also a scroll saw, slightly rusty but working fine. I gave the table a good rub and oiling and it looks already better. I call that Christmas in August. VA
  17. Not a big deal to move a shed. I did so after my divorce, no way I leave her my 6 month old workshop.... you just have to be careful with the roof felt, all the nails or staples of the piece overlapping from from one side to the other have to be removed. All the rest is wood screws, some of them were hard to remove but in the end they will break if they do not come off and you move the single panels. Found a guy with a van who not only moved the shed from a to b but also helped me to put it together again on its new place. My shed/workshop (the bigger one) after removal from Banbury to MK in 2012 on its new place. In the meantime I moved again but left the old shed where it was. VA
