As some of you know, I’m trying to sell off my mates Aircraft bits since he died about 8 weeks ago. We have had a bit of success, but we have found a box up in the loft which contains a Dave Smith Smart Move. On opening the box, we find a fuselage 3/4 built, the tail is still just bits of wood to be assembled, plus the cowling and the canopy still in tissue along with all the hardware that comes with the model. Which we thought were all positive’s, considering the price of replacement cowls and canopy’s these days. The down side being the wings. All assembled and looked at one stage like they were ready to go. But the veneer has cracked along the length and one end of the wing by the ailerons has broken off. So here is the rub…. We are looking for someone to take this off our hands and build it / restore it, to what it was meant to be. We are not looking for a fortune for it, just something to put in the kitty for his wife. We are in the Weston super Mare area. I can send pictures to anyone brave enough to give it a go. As in Bangers and cash we will leave all the dust that comes along with this garage find. I was struggling to get any pictures loaded on this site. I would love to give this project a go myself, but at my age it’s not going to happen. Plus it’s too bloody fast me these days. So over to you modellers. Thanks for reading and thinking about it.

I keep looking at the KK version on outer, but it won’t load to my pad. so I think I’ll end up buying the version on sale on EBay. -
Super 60 Wing Spars

Eventually I thought we had better get on with this project, so the drawings are covering the garage floor and I’m studying away, and I the first thing I notice it the very poor profile of the wing ribs. I have the outer zone drawing, while the fuselage looks OK the wings look underwhelming. A bit of help here please, are they flat bottomed or with the recess as per the junior 60. A profile from a better drawing would be appreciated, can anyone help in that department. thanks Tom -
DSM Smart Move re-build
Tom Flynn 1 replied to Jeffrey Cottrell 2's topic in All Things Model Flying
Clutching at straws here, but I have the task of clearing out my mates hanger as he is no longer with us. amongst the mountain in his garage I’ve found a Smart move, half started. Fuselage is OK, the wings covering has cracked with being sat in the garage, and need help. The tail is still to be built. A nice project for someone, the cowling and canopy are still in the tissue, as new. So is anyone interested, as really it’s too good for tip. Weston S Mare area. I could send pictures for those who like a challenge. Thanks Tom -
I have the small version to sell if anyone is interested. Obviously electric, but It’s not mine. I have the job of selling off my dear friends models and many extra’s. From my visits this week, I have a full time job on. He was a bigger collector than I thought. There are planes in his garage that I’ve never seen, and I went flying with him for over 20 years. If Anyone is interested I’ll go and take some pictures. We are in Weston S Mare.

Thank you all for the information. I read the instructions and the indent reminded me of my kit builds. But the dimensions now mean I can move forward on the refurb. I have glued a new firewall over the original, and spent a fortune on a new cowl, and canopy to make it look correct. Now it’s stripped to bare wood, my feelings are is that it’s not in a too bad state. Yes a bit of cutting and replacing, plus a bit of rubbing and filling, but I’ve dealt with worse. The wings are OK, just a bugger getting the profilm off. But time will tell.

The manuel is on line, but the engine mount position is not shown. Thinking back to the couple that I built Im sure there are indentations on the bulkhead plate showing you where they go.

Hi all just a bit of information needed ref the Acro Wot. Built version. I have been given a very well used model. so I’m stripping it down to give it the TLC it needs. There is no cowl, or canopy, but that another issue for later, bit when I took the engine mount off, I see it very low down, and a bit too far to the right. So all I’m looking for at the moment it correct position of the engine mount, ie distance from the top. Obviously it’ll be in the middle on one level, but no ideal on the other. Thanks for your help.

To bring this thread to an end, The sun came out and I eventually reached our field. so my modified Mascot took to the sky’s about a week ago, and again this morning. On day one it took off without all the agro I had when it was a tail dragger, and apart from a bit of right trim, it’s been fun to fly. Now I’ve had about 8 flights and it’s a lovely plane to fly. Even going upside down for a while. Hoping for many more flights, and to get be back to throwing my Acro Wot around the SKy.

I found the flying widget, and fancy a TX on there. Just waiting for a few bits to fall in place and I’m going for it. Thanks for the tip.

which takes me back to my original comment, basically if these items are no longer supported, why are people asking silly prices trying to sell them. You’ll never see them on Antiques Roadshow being valued at £1000 or more.

I have 2 of these. The interest in the 35 mhz TX is that I have the adapters to use 2.4.

Being the age I am, buying new gear is not really an option. So I thought I’d have a look at EBay and see what’s on offer. Well to say the lunatics are running the asylum seems to fit this exercise. I know I’m a cynical old so and so, but you have to wonder about our hobby, or some suppose to be flyers. At the moment owning Futaba gear looks like it’s a throw away product, also 2.4 is king, well in the South West it appears to be, only 1 member of our club is still on 35 mg. So how do owners of years old Futaba gear with a huge Ariel’s waving in the wind arrive at the costs they are looking at on EBay, considering that if it doesn’t work when it arrives at your door step, you have spent silly money to buy a load of rubbish that can’t be repaired, and can’t be returned, as most just want your money. I’ve made a few offers, only one came back to say no. The rest obviously think I missing out on the best thing since sliced bread and answering me is beneath them. But when you look at the ending shortly bit, none of the items have had a bid or offer on them, or as I have checked the bits I put offers on, plus others of interest, all were in the same boat, they didn't sell. But I’ll continue looking and maybe sanity will eventually return to the selling market.

Not every time, that’s the worrying thing. Maybe a loose wire. Anyway I have obtained a new battery and it’s charging now. See if that makes a difference.

I switched on, and went to change a name, but as I started hitting buttons the letters turned into black squares, then it returned to the opening screen.
