  1. Hopefully resurrecting this thread. I am building Sharkface as a walk down memory lane . It was the first model I built 55years ago, single channel escapement!, and as I now fly mainly composite gliders, it will probably be the last model I build from wood. I have a new cox 0.49 but have decided to stick an electric motor on it. Problem is I can't decide what ? Can you help please. Thanks and merry Christmas. Paul.
  2. I too had gone to Multiplex Cockpit and flew my jet on it without any issues. However my interests have swerved into large gliders with multiple servo wings and sophisticated telemetry needs. About a year ago I went to Graupner. The quality is excellent, the online back up good and lots of instructional videos, it is however for me getting long in the tooth, complicated, but works very well. The receivers aren't cheap but I guess you get what you pay for. I started out at 10 years old with RCS gear, then Horizon Systems, Futaba and a dabble with spektrum which I didn't like, then Futaba, Multiplex and now Graupner. Been modelling for 55years.
  3. Many thanks Frank I was thinking about not bothering with the plug in option but using a switch, as you suggest, and taking one output to each receiver. The only point of failure would be the one wire to each receiver but I guess the chances of that happening are remote. Both receivers will be doing the same thing so no flying surfaces would be lost by one lead failure !
  4. Hi, I am hoping by spring to have a large ( 6.2m 11kg) electric glider ready for the air ! I intend to use two receivers in parallel as eight channels is enough, and the motor power will be opto isolated from the receivers and servos. I want to have battery redundancy for the receivers i.e. the whole radio powered by two battery packs together or in isolation. I would welcome suggestions on how to achieve this, I would also like to avoid switches and have a plug together supply ? Any thoughts and advice welcome. I am experienced modeller but getting long in the tooth and some of the tech stuff available confuses me. I use Graupner HOTT radio. Thanks Paul.
  5. Thanks Steve / Frank, I will explore further tomorrow. The cells are 4000 man 6S I use xt90 anti spark connectors. I can say the sensor does not work when BEC powered and the main pack is not connected. I can manage a lightbulb and a switch but this LOL !!!!! Good wishes. Paul.
  6. Having now tried no BEC but a battery supplying radio power and the red wire removed from the onboard BEC the sensor works. For some reason the sensors do not like separate BEC ! Paul.
  7. Haven't tried the battery but I will tomorrow and report back, thanks Frank, I will have to risk the onboard BEC now for these EDF jets rather than goose the batteries. Paul.

Solved ... here's what I am doing I disconnect the ESC BEC by removing the red wire from the throttle/power plug then wire a separate Castle Creations BEC into the main power plug to the lipo then to the receiver. I have just disconnected my separate BEC and reinstated the red wire to the ESC BEC and all works as it should. Clearly continuity is lost somewhere to the balance plug on the pack / sensor. Is there a way around this, basically I don't trust cheap BEC in chinese speed controllers supplied with models.
  9. Frank I think thats most likely the issue, both my new models are not using the ESC BEC but a separate supply going to check now. Thanks Paul.
  10. Sadly that does not appear to be the issue I have updated both my cockpit TX's to version 1.4 and receivers to the relevant firmware. All I can get is an indication of voltage of -0.4v from three sensors ? Baffled !!!!
  11. Hi All, I believe I am doing something stupid but probably too stupid to see what it is. I am setting up a new model with my Multiplex cockpit sx12 and have added one of my cell monitors ( https://www.multiplex-rc.de/produkte/85421-lipo-saver-2...6s-fuer-m-link) to monitor the lowest cell. On test the telemetry either does not see the sensor or shows a negative figure of either -0.4v or -2.1v this occurs on the three sensors I have tried so all can't be faulty I have rebound the transmitter numerous times the RX telemetry i.e.not from a remote sensor works as usual. The plug orientation to the sensor makes no difference and I have tried three receivers ? before I lost what little hair I have left anyone any ideas ? Thanks Paul.
  12. Hi has anyone tried swinging large diameter props with the FG40, I note the manual says 21 - 10 as the largest prop but wondered if it will swing a much fine pitch but larger diameter ? any opinions. It is going in a 1./4 scale WW1 biplane. Stay well Paul.
  13. Hi Robert, Turnigy 3536/6 30 amp esc x 4 Moto calc gives me a theoretical max 112 amps with an almost 1 to 1 power weight ratio so anticipate it shouldn't run anywhere near those amps.
  14. I haven't yet finally sorted the CG, however I have cnc an adjustable tray which gives me a range of battery positions and I have fitted the largest motors I can get in the cowls. From playing with the plan I have it is not too far off and I think a 75c 5000mah in the nose will be able to get it right !
