  1. have a feeling someone recently suggested a meet up for us glidery types later this year? Wasnt there a suggested venue and date mentioned.... cos I seem to remember the waffle lawyer offering me some digs for the night. So did I dream it .....or otherwise..... anything further done with the idea ??
  2. That looks bloomin great Phil
  3. Ah thanks Ian.... off to give it a go now. See what u mean about their website
  4. Real shame that Dave - looked an interesting project ;-( Ive just received one of those sound modules, and fancy putting it in a Vampire, foamy jet ( glider ) - anyone know if there are jet "sounds" available, or if you can add your own sound files somehow ?
  5. Well yes there is like anything in life u need to acquire the skill. Head over to the other topics within this pssa section and ask away - youll get lots of advice 😉
  6. Mr Meade you were v quick there mate 😆
  7. Well I was just trying to shed as much weight as possible - Ill prob fit a mini servo and install lightweight pull pull lines now i know she flies ok. Didnt lose the rudder literally - just taped it straight Dave 😉Edited By Tim Mackey on 30/06/2016 09:32:39
  8. Thanks chaps. Ian, it wasnt Mark - he wasnt here sadly, but another flyer did have a tail cam on the chase plane, and yet another bod tried to get some film on his I-Pad which may be uploading to U Tube.
  9. Well its often said that anything will slope in a good blow. Obviously many IC models have rather blunt and thick wings and this Spit is no exception. First a little background..... Mark "foamy cardboard" Kettle of Vulcan fame, had an uncle who did a lovely job of assembling this Sportsman Aviation / Jamara .90 sized Spitfire. After being fitted with retracts and a .90 4T SC engine etc, he was all set to maiden fly her when he sadly passed away. Mark inherited the model, but being a glider guider at heart, he asked me if I thought it would slope - and if so, I could have it on condition that I converted it. So, after stripping out the engine, rudder servo, fuel system and retracts and tailwheel, I set about moving everything I could up front onto the redundant engine mount bearers. I extended the elevator snakes and fitted the servo up there too, along with rx, battery, and a big chunk of lead. A spinner from a MIG 3 was screwed to the cowl, the undercarriage and cowl holes filled in and crudely covered with some solartex, retract bearers removed, ribs strengthened and covered over with invasion stripes. I managed to reduce its weight by over a pound, and with her balanced at around 1cm in front of the original, she and came out at a tad over 6 lbs. All was set for a maiden flight at our last pss meet. Unfortunately we had pretty much zero wind, so it never came out of the car. Today however....... 25 mph smack straight onto the west slope of the big rock..... and I had a day off ! Half a dozen of us enjoyed a cracking session from around 4.30 up until gone 9pm with combat wings, sport models, and Vulcans and then my mate Jem threw her off, with another clubmate trying to catch a few shots on my phone camera. Flew straight out of his hands, and a few clicks of elevator trim saw her away. Flew a lot better than any of us expected to be honest, so all in all, a success. Phone-only photos, but considering that, and the rather dark skies, my mate did well to get what he did Thanks Mark and you can look forward to a go on the sticks very soon Edited By Tim Mackey on 27/06/2016 23:43:43
  10. I don't normally get involved in these types of chats, but here's my bit. I've been going to model shows for over 35 years, ( and flew at a few in years long gone by ) so its fair to say I have probably seen it all before. Traffic queuing was a big problem this year - not really anyone's fault, three gates manned as usual, so nowt to be done about it. Ive been in a lot worse queues over the years, including aforementioned wimbledon, motor racing etc. £12 entry, yes a bit steep if doing both days as a famijly, but hey, its 2012 peeps, and I doubt there's much profit in it for any of those involved. Like any consumerism, if you can't afford it, then dont buy it. Plenty of parking, not half bad toilets, enough seating for coffee when required, food trader prices ? - been like that at all shows - of any type, for donkey's years. Too expensive ? - then take your own. Simple. Dave Bishop.... well he's Marmite aint he - for some odd reason I like him, perhaps its nostalgia, after all he's been here and most other UK model shows for longer than I have, and for better or worse, he WILL be missed when he croaks gawd bless. Flying display - I've seen better in previous years ( full size glider was deffo better last year ). but thats just my opinion, cos I like certain types of models and flying styles, as we all do. M/Rs dont really do it for me or helis in all honesty, but lots of people love em, and especially younger  people, who we need to encourage to participate. Tthere was plenty of variety, and the super stuff at £12K+ is not seen at the average club patch, so its nice to see it in action. Some lovely flying by some folk, well displayed, safe, and smooth. A great mix of stuff, which is partly what makes this a great hobby. We took our own food, but bought a few coffees. Met up with plenty of mates, had a great social barby Saturday evening with friends, flew a couple of little models into the evening time, lots of banter and chat with friends old and new, whats not to like. Weather wasn't great, but stayed mainly dry - hey ho, its the UK and we should just get on with it. Hate it too hot anyway. Couldnt find genuine gold-N-rods anywhere, so bought some cheaper alternatives from SLEC, a few other impulse buys of small items, like tools etc, but no big boxes for me these days at shows - I'm afraid Im an online shopper mainly, or Steve Webbs if out and about. Didn't see a HK stand this year? Not misssed at all BTW, justy commenting... and sad to see John Emms Puffin tucked away at the back with the sunglasses and dream catchers lot. I enjoyed it, and my fiance did too. I'll hopefully be there next year god willing, and the year after........ etc. Edited By Tim Mackey on 20/06/2016 09:32:26
