  1. Thanks all for the best wishes and kind words. I am trying to stay positive at the minute but job seeking is not a nice task. If it wasn't for the fact I still have a mortgage I would not worry so much. Edited By Cliff Bastow on 09/09/2020 17:18:12
  2. It is my understanding that TUPE does not apply because it is the transfer of a contract and not the business but I am by no means an expert. thanks for the thought though.
  3. I have also wondered if I could draw down enough from my pension to pay the mortgage off but of course there would be less to live on then when I do retire. Its a mess! Edited By Cliff Bastow on 05/09/2020 14:43:58
  4. Not really Jonathan, I could maybe work through an agency but then I would have to travel about and you get all the shifts nobody else wants, weekends, bank holidays, nights etc. An option if I get desperate. We could maybe downsize and be mortgage free which might help but we don't want to if possible as we both love our bungalow and I have my nice workshop attached but needs must if desperate.
  5. Hi Flyboy3, You are right there, they expect loyalty from there employees but give non back, they have already sent a letter round saying that if we decide to leave before planned shut down date we will have to work out our notice which in my case is 1 month. Fat chance, if I get another offer I am off and they can whistle for my notice. Loyalty works both ways.
  6. Thanks Peter Good advice. Hoping to maybe get a days flying tomorrow weather permitting. Fourth time for me and second in less than two years, so I have not been with current employer long enough to get any payout! Edited By Cliff Bastow on 05/09/2020 14:00:02
  7. Thanks BackinBlack, I am under no illusions that it is going to be easy at my age and in this current climate but fingers crossed.
  8. I have just found out my firm is closing the site and putting work out to sub contractor! There is a nice thank you for all our hard work and overtime during Covid, coping with extra workload and covering for absent colleagues. So modeling has to go on hold for a bit whilst I job search.
  9. Just a quick update, Progress on the York is on hold at the moment as I am having to readdress some of my modeling due to Imminent redundancy and having to search for new employment at the age of 62! I am in the middle of selling off some of my lesser used models and equipment. One of our contingency plans calls for selling our house and downsizing somewhat to be mortgage free but this might mean no workshop! This is not where I wanted to be at this stage of my life but no doubt We will get through it. So nice to think that this is the thanks we get from our employer for all the extra work and overtime we put in during Covid to cover missing staff and extra workload. A choice made somewhere by some accountant to save a bit of money!
  10.   Thanks Caveman that is a great help. There should be a gasket then. The guy I ordered from in the states makes replacement gaskets for loads of engines if anyone is in need. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thunder-Tiger-GP-42-Cylinder-Head-Gasket-2-Pack-NIP/283484043260?hash=item4200f737fc:g:TU4AAOSwytBc2d-w Edited By Cliff Bastow on 11/08/2020 16:02:28
  11. The reason I need a head gasket is that the engine has developed a slight leak from under the head and on stripping down there is definitely no gasket present. I did not get the engine from new so I don't know its history. It has been a very reliable engine for many years and I would like to keep it going if I can. The new gaskets arrived from the USA yesterday so good service there. I don't mind if I loose a little power as it is more than powerful enough for the Cub it is fitted in, a lot of the time I am flying on about a third throttle anyway. Cheers all Cliff.
  12. That's them thanks Kevin, order placed, many thanks. Cliff
  13. Brian, We had a similar incident at our club a couple of years ago, lots disappeared including tools and grass cutting equipment. we installed dummy security cameras and guess what, last week they were pinched!
  14. Hi all, A long shot I know but I don't suppose anyone has a a head gasket set for one of these available or knows where I could get one from? Thanks in advance, Cliff.
  15. Thanks for all the help guys, I will look into all these suggestions. I have found online that OS do a special prop nut locking system especially for this problem so I have ordered one to try.
  16. Hi Jim, It is running an OS F plug, What plug you use please?
  17. Hi, Ihave a problem with my OS 48 engine FS, it is constantly throwing the prop loose on start up. I have fitted an extra locknut on top of the prop retaining nut but to no effect. One of my clubmates said that they had a bit of a reputation for this? Any ideas welcome. Cliff
  18. If you take a look at Ramy Rc on you tube he has started building whole air-frames in carbon fiber, and very nice they look too.
  19. Having had another look at my homemade undercarriage I have decided that it is far to stiff. There is no flex in it at all and I am worried that landing shocks will be placed on the mounting structure. I will replace the legs with ones with coiled springs in them so they are on order. Maiden will have to wait a little longer now.
  20. I took her to the club yesterday but decided not to fly her as it was too windy! I did try some taxi tests which went ok but I did find the tail wheel was not very effective as she had her tail up pretty quickly. She accelerates well so all looks good for the power set up. Family duties for the next few days so wont be up the field for a while. You watch the weather be glorious now!
  21. The red cheat line has been applied using Model Technics lining tapes. A bit fiddley to get straight but I am pleased with the results. Edited By Cliff Bastow on 09/07/2020 21:48:09
