  1. The good news in all this is that JR transmitters, receivers and servos look set to continue to be available. I am looking forward to the new receivers Dave W mentions. I understand these new Extended Channel DMSS receivers will allow for up to 16 total PWM (standard) channel availability, while offering a redundancy receiver system. You use a 2nd "extending" rx (6ch and 8ch versions will be available) to give 12 or 16 outputs. So it seems that the situation is not as gloomy as the thread title might suggest? 2. Given that the factory in Malaysia produces all the current JR gear and arrangements have been made to move ownership of rights to a new company there seems to be no reason the JR brand can't continue. However, it's a very tough time for most of the RC brands these days.
  3. Matt I don't know enough about it to make informed comment. However, this post from JR Americas suggests that production of JR radio goes on much as before in spite of the "bankruptcy" in Japan. We will have to wait to see. **LINK**
  4. JR have not had a happy time of late, BUT manufacture of much of range is now happening and DMSS receivers, XG transmitters and some servos are now available. They even have "new" receivers about to launch. These can pair up with existing 6ch and 8ch rx to give 12 or 16 PWM outputs plus dual redundancy I belive. So they re not dead yet! However, it is undoubtedly a very tough market out there and all the rc manufacturers are suffering. The market for transmitters (especially top end ones) is shrinking so it' s not a great surprise that Hitec and others don't want to invest in launching expensive new kit.  Edited By David Ovenden on 30/12/2017 15:07:00 Edited By David Ovenden on 30/12/2017 15:08:28
  5. Well Geoff, certainly more than I would pay. But...... if you research "laser diesel" in sold items on EBay you will find (as claimed by the seller in his auction description) that apparently a similar laser diesel did sell for close on £1000 on Christmas Day! So perhaps collecters with deep pockets will pay the price being asked!
  6. Andy, if it helps, the bearer spacing is the same for saito 62 ; 72 and 82 engines. So if you use yor 62 and find the model would benefit rom a little more power it wouldn't be difficult to upgrade to either of those 2 larger Saitos.
  7. Stare Wars. Luke Skyleader and cast of "The G-Force Awakens"
  8. When will the Jan 18 mag hit the shelves in shops? Before Christmas?
  9. As a temporary (economy) nose glazing to let you try out the rebuilt model, could you use a clear plastic drinks bottle top section? Cut of the screw top and blank it off. OK, not scale top would let you test at a low cost. You could of course carve a mould and form your own - cheap but time consuming. If there was enough of the old nose section to glue it back up you could make a plaster of paris plug from it and mould a new canopy over that?     Edited By David Ovenden on 11/12/2017 09:07:41
  10. I too can heartily recommend the HP server power supply conversion as suggested by FlyingBrian. They are so good I have 2. One for each end of the workshop!
  11. I'm with David, Tim and Chris on this. I can hardly belive how negative and point-scoring this thread has become. I enjoy this hobby and have met so many positive and talented folk through it over the years. For me its sad to see it all reduced to this. Edited By David Ovenden on 25/11/2017 03:05:30
  12. Pressure nipple on the muffler blocked or didn't have a hole drilled in it from new?
  13. Tom told us he knew the red and blue wires were disconected in his original post.
  14. Stevo, great to see your progress on this. As ever, lovely craftsmanship. I am watching, enjoying and learning from your build log. You are not posting in vain!
  15. I imagine David will not be alone in his decision to shop elsewhere. HH now seems to be providing a lamentable level of service to its customers.
  16. Of the models suggested so far, the PM Fletcher FD-25B Defender is by far the most appealing to me.
  17. If I remember correctly, the Saito 100T has twin carbs mounted on top of the engine which makes it hard to conceal in cessna type models with little cowl height above the engine centre line. So you might want to consider radial engine aircraft. Sopwith Pup, Waco, Stearman, Avro Tutor etc. Had a quick look at the Hip Pocket site. Found a few less obvious ideas there for 60size engines which might suit your Saito 100T Hanriot Dupont H.D.I. Heath Baby Bullet Kari-Keen Sioux Coupe. Pietenpol Air Camper. Spacewalker.
  18. Agreed. SM Modellbau  are very good, and not just for Futaba. I'm using their UnisensE with JR DMSS. But you can set the unit up for many different brands/protocols. It does rpm (brushless electric) altitude, variometer,  batt voltage, current and more from one unit. Only downside is instructions are in German, though translatiions into English can be found online. By the way, no need to buy an expensive branded lead to programme Unisens from your PC. I found a really cheap item from HK worked fine. See https://hobbyking.com/en_us/esc-pc-software-communication-adapter.html?___store=en_us Edited By David Ovenden on 18/10/2017 21:20:03
  19. Traplet took on the old CAP plans and did cut parts. Sarik Hobbies have now taken over the business I understand. You could ring them to ask if they can supply just the wing ribs. http://www.sarikhobbies.com/
  20. Is the fuel tubing inside your tank yellow translucent silicone or Tygon? I only ask as I understood that Tygon didn't stand up too well to glow fuel. Edited By David Ovenden on 08/10/2017 07:19:42
  21. You say "rolling" but a turn can also be provoked by the rudder. Is that out of trim? I had an issue with mine this summer where the heat seemed to have caused the metal pushrod to expand more than the foam of the fuselage causing the model to be out of trim and turn. Maybe worth checking your rudder alignment just in case?
  22. Posted by Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 16/09/2017 15:34:49: Weight - the enemy of many a model! BEB PS Why don't we just ban "w"? It would solve a lot of problems! What, no Weston Park, no West Wings, no Waco bipes or Westland Widgeon models, no Wright Brothers. No no no! Edited By David Ovenden on 16/09/2017 16:19:03
