  1. Glad to see you back with the Fury Colin. I did not bother with rib tapes in the end even though I bought some form Mike Reeves. Still getting diverted from the Hurricane build. Built a couple of thermal gliders as well as repairs. Keep going Colin. Graham
  2. I sized my struts off the drawing, but had to re build the port strut as the rear vertical was about 1/8in too short. I used epoxy to glue the brass plates to the ply strips and then a balsa faring each side. The brass lugs top and bottom just slotted into the slots on the wings. Occasionally on landing they will pop out. Does that help? Graham
  3. That looks good Colin. No excuses now apart from the cold. I'm so thankful that my workshop is in the house! You seem to be spending a lot of time on these fiddly indoor models. I don't think I would have the patience. I'm back on the BT Hurricane. Keep safe and enjoy the season. Graham
  4. Keep going Colin. Looking forward to seeng the completed Fury. Graham
  5. I had a problem (see my post in October last year). I felt the rear cabana struts were too short. I cannot remember whether I remade them or not. The interplanetary port strut rear leg could be about 5mm longer as per Danny’s RCM&E article. By the way I really enjoyed reading it. graham
  6. I used no offset and noticed no flying problems. Could be my insensitivity. I will pay more attention on the next outing - probably 2021. Graham
  7. Thanks gentlemen for your favourable comments. I like your idea Eric for the rigging. Before the Fury goes away for the winter, I will replace the Reeves rigging with 18swg wire and steel clevices with one end allowed to swivel. The it will be on with the Taylor Hurricane and Mosquito (over 4 years since building started) unless I get diverted again Graham
  8. Good to see you back with the Fury. Keep going. It is so easy to get diverted. It happens to me all the time! At last my Fury took to the skies at the weekend. We have had some great days, calm and warm conditions. There are a couple of pictures following. I made a big mistake in using Mick Reeves rigging. The turn buckles were a nightmare to fit in the field (or back of the car!). I will be changing them to wire and steel clevises as per Bryant's plan. Otherwise I was very happy. Last of the wires fitted. Lift Off Graham
  9. I've just checked the sports hall web site that we use and it states that it is in fact 4 courts. The walls still come into play. Maybe I should try the Hummingbird. I've been flying a Horizon Sports Cub there for the past couple of years and there is room enough, so some of Tony's kits would be OK. I've just looked at Martian's Bleriot build - it looks far too fiddly and fragile. Graham
  10. Steve, I've been building for over 40 years! I had a few of the original, Wot Fours, Acro Wots and Wots Wots - great flyers. The pilot has always been the problem! I've also tried Chris's gliders - Centiphase and the Multiphase. I've always enjoyed building and flying Chris Foss's kits. I've not tried his ARTF kits but have been tempted. All my indoor flying has been done with out of the box aircraft. That's why I was interested in Colin's model. Maybe one day I'll try one of Tony Ray's models. Our indoor site in Aberdeen is just 2 badminton courts in size. The walls regularly jump out!, so have to be careful. Graham
  11. Danny I wondered if have you any idea how many Furys are under construction - must be a fair number now. Must try and get the BT Mosquito back on the building board after over a year lay off. Graham
  12. So this is what you have been doing! Must try building and indoor rather than buying ready to fly. Graham
  13. I appreciate all your positive comments. It's made the effort worth while. Hopefully in due course I'll get some flying shots. I'm not sure about a Fury meet, Aberdeen is a bit far from all you folk, but you never know. Polished silver was a step too far hence the camouflage in South African colours. Graham
  14. Well, that's the Fury finish and ready to fly. However I will be waiting for some warmer weather to spend time rigging it. We've been flying in zero temperatures recently on some fine days. Too cold to spend time fiddling. I'm afraid my Fury is somewhat agricultural compared to others on the forum. Here are a couple of pictures. Graham
  15. Your finish puts me to shame. I’m at the final stage. Just the rigging to complete and then it would be ready for a trial flight or at least a ground run. I used Sorartex and Humbrol Matt enamel (South African Air Force camouflage). No cockpit details yet. There maybe a photograph next week. No litho plate used apart from the windscreen surround. Graham
  16. I see that predictive text has taken over. Interplanetary should read inter plane and Finnish should read finish! Graham
  17. A happy New Year to all you Fury builders. You’ve gone very quiet! I have made some reasonable progress although there are numerous bits and pieces to sort out. The main problem I have is with the interplanetary struts. I built then as the plan but am finding it difficult to fit them. My plan is to install the rigging which will tighten things up and maybe make fitting the struts easier.. The airframe is complete and covered - I used Sorartex. I have painted it as per the South African Air Force as detailed on the Airfix 1/48th scheme. I brushed Humbrol Matt enamel but would have got a better Finnish if I had sprayed it. The roundals also were sprayed. Not my best finnish. I will post a picture in due course, but would appreciate any advise regarding the struts in the meantime. Graham
