  1. DO NOT over power the Pigeon,it will not like it. After all it is a motor glider not a rocket ship. Even the multiplex shark power train I had in mine was more than enough. I only used a 2200 3s lipo for the weight to balance, something smaller would have given plenty duration.
  2. Hi, as noted above motor/speed controler came from a crashed model. Contact George at 4MAX electric fixed wing specialist, he can supply something suitable.
  3. I did a "dark nights fix up" on an easy pigeon in 2020. Most of the work was rebuilding a badly damaged and then badly repaired wing section. Dumping the original power set up saved over a pound in weight! Brushless motor and controller from a wreaked Multiplex Shark gave plenty of power [120watt] with original prop. 22OO 3s lipo sat behind the motor under the cockpit canopy, servos and rx under the wing. Flew well, another club member liked it so a trade was done. PS, had the same experience as Geoff S above with an Electrafly and that darned switch.
  4. A pic of the X3 with other Douglas built research aircraft at Edwards airbase.
  5. On the left I agree a F102, think the other is the swing wing X5
  6. Simon you likely know the full size must have been one of the most marginal aircraft ever, however thought others may be interested in its history. A take off speed of 260mph was needed to get off the ground. Expected to be mach 2 capable it was only able to go supersonic in a steep dive, just not enough jet power from engines of the day. [ some thought was given to use rocket power but this did not happen] Test pilots Bridgeman, Yeagar and Everest found controls to be very sensitive at high speed and sluggish at low speed prompting Everest to say "one of the most difficult aircraft I have ever flown". Pilot used a lift to enter cockpit from below, sort of Thunderbirds style.
  7. You have been "stirring the pudding" as it was called then Paul.😁
  8. Formed by James Martin and Captain Valentine Baker Their MB series of development were quite remarkable. Baker was killed test flying the MB3 when its Napier Saber failed. The MB5 was a development of the 3 with simplified construction and Griffon engine with the contra prop. Ground crew were complementary as to the ease servicing could be done.
  9. More of a horizontal launch rocket than an aeroplane. Catapult launch rail like the Wright brothers or something like Fireball XL5.😀
  10. The pilot should retain control, More so if electric as there may be assigned safety switch which is unknown to holder. Ah, Robert and Dickw got in first.
  11. Hi and ask away. By the way I still fly oily diesel.
  12. Can not see how folding prop can fold correctly on a scale Spitfire nose profile.

    Electric Cars.

Just for information. It is the Dinorwig hydroelectric station at Llanberis that uses excess Nuclear power at night to pump water back up the hill for immediate use when demand surges. Been operational many years. A relation worked there during construction, He said it was a 20 minuet drive into the mountain to the main chamber. The Trawsfynydd nuclear station is a first generation MAGNOX type that shut down some time ago and is expected to be the first such station to be fully decommissioned. When that will be is another matter.

The lattice type pylon takes several days to erect, once again initial cost is the issue like buildings made of RAAC concreate, cheaper in the short term but do not last. The old pylons have lasted decades, resisting some severe weather happenings and even the odd bomb damage. Will the T up in a day type do the same?
  15. Nice to see this build. I do not know who invented the core method of construction but Free Flight Scale champion Eric Coats did much to promote the method in the 70's being both light and resistant to warps. Important for a free flight type as once launched if trim is out there is nothing you can do to correct.
  16. I have a CL flying friend who never did his prop nuts tight enough I learned, so first thing to check on a model of his. He just could not bring himself to lean on the nut enough. Even a 1/4 inch bolt/shaft can take a lot of torque that you will not exceed with the right size spanner in hand.
  17. Ever seen a 2stroke throw its prop and then go on as a shaft run? I have and scary stuff. Most of us scarpered away including the owner but a cool headed member reached in from behind and pinched the fuel pipe shut.
  18. In my case it was the only choice living in a very rural spot and the only club in the county at the time had only just formed many miles away. I did join said club years later [still am a member of Haverfordwest model club]
  19. I think I remember correctly he only got caught because his address was on the drone when fished out of the water.
  20. Not only drone flyers but motorbike's racing around housing estates and the ones off roading where they should not. I have been 4x4 off roading [ legally] for nearly 40 years and the action of "don't care idiots has resulted in the loss of places it was fine to go and sadly I see similar happening for legal flyers. As for policing recon the force would have to be at least twice the size it is now to have any chance.
  21. Hi Andrew, And welcome. Can't comment on the Bigfoot as not come across one. For a new flyer I say get some assistance to learn to fly, join a club or find someone to assist and give guidance. Speaking as a self taught RC flyer some 45 years ago its a hard road that takes determination even having had previous experience of free flight and control line models.
  22. With models of this size I recon it is good to have suspension in the way of the full size to dampen bounce on landing. Axle can travel up and back some in a loop on the rear leg. Bungee cord around a pin on front leg holds axle down in place but stretch's to absorb shock on landing.
  23. I still fly an ARC Jupiter and it too will stay in a spin until some opposit rudder is fed in. Having the extra mass of the floats probably did not help.
  24. Sad to hear today of the death of the King, of Welsh rugby, British and Irish lions star. Barry John.
  25. Discussion moving away from original title is traditional on this forum.
