  1. I You'd seriously recommend a used RCV to the OP?
  2. Personally, I'd never tinker with a wood propeller. I have slightly amended props of other materials, where the tip is chipped - cut down and rebalanced as you say. Just a reflection on my woodworking skills potentially!
  3. We need an emoji for banging ones head against a brick wall.....
  4. Only operating difference to 2 strokes is the need to adjust the valve clearance occasionally - just check and adjust before each flying season is plenty. If you disassemble one, you need to make sure the timing of the valves is accurate but that's easy and there is plenty of guidance online. Laser, OS and Saito are 'gold standard', but loads of good, serviceable other makes available - I've had good times with SC, ASP, Thunder Tiger (my Valiant currently has a 30 year old SC90 which runs beautifully). As with all used engines, being able to handle it, and see it running, is ideal. Buy, run, enjoy!
  5. A number of dle 20s in our club. Very reliable. Relatively vibration-free... cheap to run! Like all petrols, unless you spend lots on an after market muffler, quite noisy. Something to bear in mind if your site is noise-sensitive. Four stroke sounds much nicer imo, but costlier.
  6. I keep reading the title and expect to see a model powered by Photons (not Photon torpedoes obviously!).............
  7. Certainly already a much better finish than the full size ones probably had......
  8. My pushrods were tighter than I liked so I dribbled oil in from the control surface end and wiggled it by hand for a while... didn't fix it 100% but certainly fixed it enough for 400+ flights...... "...... back to ic models. So much easier to work on." It's not because it's electric, it's because it's white!
  9. Or even a smaller engine ..... 🙂
  10. Or a wire moving in a magnetic field.....?
  11. And at Aston Villa, they are watering the pitch! SMH
  12. IC vehicle depreciation is, and always has been, hugely dependent on the individual vehicle. Even things like paint (solid coloured vehicles depreciate faster then metallic for example) makes a difference. So, like all these numbers it's "lies, damned lies and statistics". And of course journalists never let facts get in the way of a good story. As was said earlier, don't believe what's written, get first hand experience. BYD is Build Your Dreams, And yes, I suspect they get subsidised - like many car makes did (still do) in Europe. @Erfolg Did you grow up in Victorian times ? 😁
  13. I'd be pleasantly surprised if there was one - our hobby being so weather dependent....
  14. Doesn't subtrim just achieve the same as mechanically adjusting the throttle linkage.....? Whilst I like the instant gratification of an electrically powered model, I love the way an engine gets persuaded into life. Totally agree re the exhaust deflectors supplied with petrol engines. I had one fall off and noticed no difference in noise....
  15. You could sell that space for £1m in London..... lots of room to work in.
  16. Direct contrast to our club on Saturday. 2 ic only flyers, 1 electric only, and 2 with a mixture. I think there were 3 glow engines (I refuse to call them Nitro...), and 6 petrol engines (I refuse to call them Gas or Gassers).
  17. Took advantage of a surprisingly nice day - 4 hours of light winds and, for the main part, blue skies and sunshine. Just me and Kev P as normal. Zipping around with my grubby Hawk that now has some newly acquired glow fuel stains.... Usual half a dozen flights on the Double Trouble, few more flights on the baby FW190, which impresses every time. Usual method now is launch in intermediate mode, then go to full loony mode asap. Kev brought his lovely yellow petrol Chippie, which had a rudder issue so only flew once; his Laser powered P47; and his ic powered Raptor heli. He remembered all the pieces of his models.... but forgot his lunch and coffee!
  18. As we're opening up to twins..... 1. Henschel HS 129 2. Hornet 3. Whirlwind 4s or 2x3s Dolly launch, belly land
  19. Needs one if it has a camera.......
  20. No op id = not allowed to fly. Confiscate it 😊
