  1. Continued with bits I had been mulling over for some time. The steps are quite large afairs and I was struggling to get them right. The first attempt, which involved soldering etc went in the bin. When I looked more closely at the full size I saw that the steps attach to the strut bracket, so I drilled at 45 degrees aft and 45 degrees outboard, the base of the struts, the assemblies were then fed through and CA'd into place. I can alter the angles slightly once the model is assembled to check they "sit" right. I have subsequently painted the brass airfoil sections silver. The underlying structure is aluminium tube. Cheers Danny
  2. Consider the un-scale like struts, this was probably too much, but was fun to figure out materials. Door handles next, and every Auster seems to have something different. The Pitot was the same, the Sephton Auster pitot was totally different, so I chose to model the one on G-AGTO ? Cheers Danny
  3. Nowt wrong with that, if you can find a suitable size and radius Cheers Danny
  4. wheel covers are done, was going to attach them by screws, but the scale of even the smallest screw would be wrong. So went with the tried and trusted punched litho. Cheers Danny
  5. well a vital part has arrived to allow me to mill my wheels to accept wheel covers, I have had a quick play on a practice wheel. I know you cannot contain yourselves cam you ?
  6. I just hope my previous forays into IC are not repeated...... When I did my A test I had multiple dead sticks, just couldn't seem to keep an engine running consistently. Fingers crossed ? Cheers Danny
  7. Thanks Alan, there are only two areas that have rivets so I am in with-drawl too...... sounds like I should have plenty for an 8 minute flight. Cheers Danny
  8. Been looking at the tank, and the largest that will fit is a 16 oz DuBro. I had bought a 20 oz, but that's too long and too wide. The 16oz should be perfect. Question for you petrol heads, what sort of duration can I expect from the 16oz size tank with a Saito 82? Added the 3D venturi that I drew in Fusion 360, and friend Eric Strefford resin printed for me. It's actually scale for the type, just too big and the wrong colour for Uniform-Juliet, which uses a smaller one. Hey-ho don't tell anybody ? Cheers Danny
  9. The stubs are up inside the chamber a few millimetres, they are not flush. But you are right, its not that much to overflow. Cheers Danny
  10. Thanks for confirmation on the Saito needing pressure. The exhaust would fill up a fair bit before it overflowed unfortunately Eric, should have put the nipple at the lowest point with hindsight, and with the price of fuel these days, can't be wasting it! I like the idea of some part of the line being visible, as its pressure I guess it wont matter if its over-long? Cheers Danny
  11. Thanks Dave, I think because you have a Laser, which doesn't need pressure you have the unused pressure/vent line. I could add a second vent I suppose to the tank and that could hang out the cowl with the fill line, both plugged for flight..... Cheers Danny Just noticed you have the same tail-wheel assembly Dave, great minds think alike
  12. So the clear went on this morning before work. Not the best paint job I have ever done, at 30 psi the pressure may have been too much..... But I am happy with the overall look. Not much left to do apart from fit the mechanical bits back in, and on that note...... I could do with some help with the fuel plumbing as you know I fly electric normally. I have three lines, clunk, vent, fill. The vent would normally go to the exhaust for pressure, If I leave the fill plugged and hanging out the bottom of the cowl slightly, how do I know when the tank is full, I wont be able to see the vent/exhaust line, and fuel spilling from the exhaust wont be obvious as the nipple is not low down. Not sure the Saito needs pressure, either. Cheers Danny
  13. So the red is on, had to resort to Tamiya acrylic. Not to worry Klass Kote clear will go over the red to fuel proof things and give it an even sheen. Cheers Danny
  14. What do you want to know? The primer was UPOL P88 sprayed 50/50. Top coat is Klass Kote silver (aluminium). I will use sheets of paper taped against the masks to shield the silver Cheers Danny
  15. Okay on further investigation it showed that G-AXUJ actually has a slightly different style/font. Cheers Danny
  16. Okay next up...... Scale modelling can be hard work sometimes, but fun all the same Cheers Danny
  17. Thanks for the comments and the better angled pics, I thought I had scoured the web, clearly not! Now if anybody can find a shot showing the position of the underwing reg, port wing that would be ace. I am just going to scale the fuselage one to fit the space, but it would be nice to get an idea. So using your info I have this And of course now I see it on screen the widths look wrong, bottom of U and bottom of J sheez........
  18. Looks good, what have you done? I can see the letters look straight??
  19. Why is it when you post something that is so-say finished you look at it in the post and think..... that's not right...... I will say that the stencil is finished...........
  20. And after a bit of tidying up we have this...
  21. Thanks Manish, the really thin Pink-It tapes on the fus are much more subtle but still easily visible. This Auster has been a test bed for lots of ideas I will take forward onto future builds, and some I wont LOLOL. The registration has been a challenge, nothing like a recognisable font, and seems a bit of a mismatch, the G is a different style completely. Made worse by not having a decent side view to trace, so I have sort of guesstimated.... Cheers Danny
  22. Well the model is now silver. Not the best spray job I have done, but it will do. Need to get a quality bigger gun. The Iwata is great, but this model was a bit too large to do easily. And I might need another filter for my air scrubber. Have to wait at least 24 hours before any masking can take place over Klass Kote. Time to fire up Illustrator and create some artwork and masks. Cheers Danny
  23. Blessed zippers done, using the dolls clothing zippers. Looks okay but with hindsight should have made a backing from covering material to replace the material removed from the zip. Cheers Danny
