  1. Mark As mentioned, mine was a first production batch however, it did have a set of barely legible photo copied instructions. Mark Tilbury responded that he didn't want a poor translation version so inserted the pages I received. Apparently a 'proper' printed version will feature in future batches. If you want a copy of the copies I have, 'PM' me. Enjoy your 'Riot' Cheers CK
  2. Here's a photo of the LiPo battery modification. I made a ply tray which together with a velcro strap and removeable ply rear plate (to allow easy load and unload), secures the pack. Also, the tail plate area. Shown is a strong ply replacement, much lighter but just as adequate.
  3. Yes, I have built (assembled?) one and successfully flown it. Strangely, having had and enjoyed immensely a 'foamie' 'Riot' for 8+ years, I had literally traced all the well-worn components with the intention of building my own balsa and ply version. Then, as if reading my mind, a balsa/ply one appeared on the market. It is as good, if not better, than the foam variant. I did make a few modifications and changes and have corresponded with Mark Tilbury at 'Max Thrust', informing him of my feedback. (Mine was a first batch apparently, didn't even have label stickers on the box!). OK, mine is powered by a Ripmax Quantum 40 800Kv motor. This weighs the same as the Overlander motor mentioned in the adverts (210gms). 12x6 APC E balanced prop and from an assortment of makes of 4S LiPo up to 3300mAh capacity. ESC a Hobby King 80A SBEC. Servo are a mixture of Hitec HS422 on Rudder and Elevator respectively, with smaller Hitec HS85BB in each wing for aileron control. Mods include: binning the 'rock hard' wheels for softer larger ones. Binning the awful out of balance, nylon spinner. Major modification concerns the C of G, or rather getting the model to balance at the recommended range of 75-90mm from the LE. There is a very clever strain relief metal alloy plate that supports the tail wheel assembly. This removes strain on the rudder above. However, this metal piece weighs 10gms. This results in excess 'church roof' at the nose end! Also as designed with the LiPo inserted in the fuselage, I could not achieve the stated C of G. (I did a trial run and would have needed 8oz of weight in the cowling if I hadn't done the mod). So I cut a 'slot' opening in the front bulkhead and slid the LiPo forward into the cavernous cowl area. Hey presto! balance achieved, oh and I replaced the metal plate with a strong ply piece instead. The wire control snakes for R and E, needed attention with 'Duraglit' too, as they were stiff and measuring on a meter, put a strain and resultant high Amp load on the servo operation. Once smooth as silk the load and control response was spot on. Flying, if you've had a 'Riot', you know what they are capable of and this one is no exception and all the better on 4S. Oh, I added the LED wing lights which aren't featured in this kit. I reckon Mr Foss and his 'Wottie' family of aircraft have a very strong competitor now. (And I do own and fly most of the Wot4, Uno Wot, Acrowot too!)
  4. Is the December issue due out today (27th Nov) as noted on page 94 in the Nov issue?
  5. Having enjoyed the foamie 'Max Thrust Riot' for the last 8 years, I had traced these well-worn parts intending to build a Balsa/Ply version. Then, as if reading my mind, along came such a ARTF kit version. Available in several colour scheme variations plus a bare airframe version, there's the usual amount of fettling and assembly to be done. This version requires all components to be added. A 800Kv motor, ESC, 4 servo & 4S LiPo. (The foam version comes equipped with a motor, prop and ESC for 3S). I chose not to apply the supplied decals, instead opting for my own Orafilm colour scheme trim onto the base white as it comes 'out-of-the-box'. All I need now is the field to open and good weather to test fly.
  6. As a digital subscriber, is there a best way e.g. method, settings on printer etc. for printing out specific articles for reference? For example: The October Issue featured a review describing operation etc. of a 4-MAX ESC programming card. Having obtained one of these, I wished to refer to the article as well as the 4-MAX instructions whilst setting the item up. Similarly, I may be building a model that has been reviewed in RCME and wish to have the article to hand and perhaps avoid a pitfall the reviewer discovered in his build and so on. It's all well and good having the PC or tablet alongside, assuming that is practical, but a paper copy on the work bench is much easier. It's less risky to the electronic item too i.e. electronics and glue, paints not to mention balsa dust in the works!)
  7. C8 do you have a link please? Tried searching the BMFA site and all I get is AGM motor info !!!!
  8. Appreciating we have many a very qualified and successful IT folk here, a plea from a mere mortal. Please run the new program / format by a few lay persons. Far too often those wonderful instruction manuals and programs that come with IT technology (insert device here), are complete gobbledygook to the ordinary end user.
  9. Although I have not had occasion to try, laminating film e.g. 'Doculam', (various thickness available), may be a way forward. For traditional fans, tissue may be applied over this for a robust and more durable finish. This requires paint application in a colour of your choice plus the adhesive e.g. 'Cover Grip'. How this compares weight wise v purpose made model coverings I don't know.
  10. Sadly, we were the only two, both Sunday & today. A few did have the British Legion downloadable poster Poppies in their windows though.
  11. Unless I'm currently missing a trick, might it be possible to add a print pages to the digital back issues? At present 'Print Screen' is not ideal. Other publishers have this e.g. FMT in Germany. Very useful when you come to build a model or use an item that was reviewed many issues ago and you (or your CEO ) has had a tidy and clear out!
