  1. That would be the UK since 1997 then....
  2. Frontier on Channel 5 select. V good and informative regarding the birth of the USA. (May give you a different take on Americans) In the same vein Rich HALL's (American Comedian) POTUS and one other program which I cannot remember well worth a look. And if you want to be annoyed and marvel watch The Bank of Dave on Netflix. Brill. And for a long, absorbing and thought provoking watch try The Wire. (British Actors too i.e Idris ELBA. Tim WEST...)
  3. I just cut a slot and used the scoop section of a large plastic spoon on a wot 4 converted to electric.
  4. Just a quick question from idle curiosity as i dont think i have it mentioned anywhere. What about hot air ballons and large kites....
  5. Typical heartless, never think of the tree just get the tree surgeon no one ever hires a tree anesthetist!
  6. Sadly the argument about Data is mute. There is no one with enough clout in authority, or external body able to pose the question. Whilst as rc fliers, in particular fixed wing, have an exemplary safety record this cannot be amplified with sufficient weight. I do not know what concerns General Aviation (GA) have on this matter, there are a number of small microlight clubs operating in the main from farm fields, in addition to established flying sites and would be good to find out. Again I have no idea of the numbers concerned in GA, i will err and say that it is an expensive hobby/pastime, and may contain individuals of such professions and perhaps high level connections that they could be raising the issue or may do so if pressed/brought to their attention. It would certainly be in our collective interest to marry up, it may even have been done via the BMFA et.al
  7. I suppose this is something of a poll. Do i really need a batt discharger? I tend to charge up a number of batteries before i go flying, something a couple of days before, but then I may not get to use them all so leave till next time. So far no issues. I also note on this and other sites that battery resistance gets mention, I checked mine and found some were quite high, no puffing or apparent loss of power. Another scare issue, how many actually check cell resistance. Apart from the obvious of not charging in a safe environment and keeping a watchful eye I sometimes wonder whether I get over concerned. I know there are people who have no regards whilst others seem Over The Top. I often think that storage in fire retardant/proof sites is a good thin, mine live in ammo boxes, but then I think about all the model shops where they just hang on display units or stacked on shelves to no harm. I am in no way making light of the potential issues just raising an eyebrow. Please do not regal with tails of people having fires and causing damage to homes or vehicles, I can relate those from club members so suffered.
  8. Bruce does make great videos, on the CAA proposals not so much. He plays on fact thar modellers will end up paying more because commercial interests will not want to pay. Piffle, if its a tax, which it is, the government of the day will expect and pursue payment otherwise the whole thing is a none starter. Whilst i appreciate his views theylike mine and others on here are speculation. Extrapolation does not always secure the end result. All the time a clear understanding of FACT is required. FACT the CAA proposals are just that. FACT no imposition has been determined.
  9. Chew on this for a moment. I have little doubt airspace will become more controlled, now here is the issue. People using drones for nefarious activity will not be registering or using RID. Those of us who do are on the system. Identified shopl8fters and pick pockets cannot have their pictur3s displayed in areas were they act because of Human Rights Legislation. Ssshhh
  10. Given the current weather and long range forecast i thought i would invest in something suitable.
  11. Recently purchased "Carrier Pilot". Tells of the overlooked Fleet Air Arm operating in the South Pacific taking on the Japanese. They were flying in the main the Corsair and Seafury.
  12. Enforecement of model flying regulations. Could have sworn my eyes read that for this thread!!!
  13. Bruce aka xjet can and does provide useful and informative videos. I have been a subscriber to his channel and remain so. Now here is the but, a little ott on occasions and his dissection of a document which in itself is not always accurate is reflected in the same way by his presumptions. Yes we have to be mindful and we should use our own judgement when we have HONEST fact and data present3d to us, from all facets of the issue. This is not a critisism of Bruce but an observation.
  14. BE PREPARED FOR CHRISTMAS CARNIGE APPARENTLY SANTAS SLEIGH DOES NIT COMPLY TO CAA OR FAA REGS. I.E. NO REINDEER IDENTIFICATION. I am lead to believe evri are making deliveries instead. Should be over your garden fence in June. PS can interest anyone in some cheap venison
  15. Perhaps our French counterparts should be demanding reasons for the restrictions. I suspect its just laziness.
  16. I will have to check but im sure there is a sentence in the CAA document about registaring tethered models!!!!
  17. CAA consultation submitted. It was good to see in the BMFA response some of the issues that occurred to me. I also noted in the preamble from the CAA the mention of the Gatwick 2018 incident in which they counted the costs involved. If anyone cares to look its recorded as a 'malicious Incident' by the Police and there is no positive evidence of it being a drone, to my mind a somewhat disingenuous use of information on behalf of the CAA. Further there is no breakdown of the 18K+ incidents reported to the police and I note were reference is made to previous consultation and the use of percentage to indicate positive or negative outcome the figures tend to be high and in some instances closely matched, when they mention some or a few no figures are given. Manipulation at its best.
  18. Bah and humbugs and crackers and stuffing and booze. Merry Christmas to ALL. And Healthy and Happy New Year
  19. Not everyone has mobile phones, correct. Break into your workshop and chip your kit, that's not what was said. I implied the electronics will be chipped at source and again it is merely speculation on my behalf, something I I made a point of saying in an earlier post wasn't helpful and here I am doing it. If I was really going hard at it I could provide a fictional briefing by the CAA to a Police Force to carry out an operation at a flying site.
  20. Selective editing Ron, tut tut. I do agree we should not have to pay for any change and indeed state our case in a robust fashion.
  21. Welcome aboard. You have excellent taste in models.
  22. Until the evaluations have been made, and I may suggest, someone may have put a comment in the consultation document that gets picked up as being a good/alternative idea, nothing is decided. Gary is entitled to his view, which I suspect is nothing more than being content to follow the rules. The continuing thread of 'why? who does it benefit? its only being done to clear the airspace for commercial use' is well trodden. The question that needs asking not only of the CAA but the Politicians loudly and repeatedly using the above continuing thread is, Justify why microlights, hang gliders, paragliders are not being compelled to do the same. Our models do not carry people, they do. And painful as it maybe for some it has not been decided, with the drive by the BMFA and those who have responded to the consultation document a measured approach may prevail. If you really wish to extrapolate the existing and pending rules and regulations consider this, all future unmanned autonomous and rc controlled aerial vehicles will be chipped for N/RID at source. Your phone gives up your location, forget turning it off in some app or other, it remains detectable and can be turned on remotely. And don't worry about voice activated gizmos, i.e. Alexa
