About Me
Like many of my generation, I cut my teeth on balsa chuck gliders and progressed to "proper" aeromodelling (freeflight and control line) throughout my teens and on to RC in the mid 70s once I could afford it, when a combination of ineptitude and CB radios meant going home with an intact model was a novelty!
In 1977, I started full sized gliding, including a fair bit of instructing, which took me away from modelling for many years until marriage and related responsibilities eventually consigned me to armchair flying (simulators).
I took up RC modelling again in 2002 (after dabbling with helis on and off for a while) and seemed to take to it like I'd never been away. I'll fly more or less anything I can get my hands on - luckily a good number of my fellow club members trust me to do their initial test flights - do a bit of instructing and indulged my hooligan side in 1/12 scale combat for a few years, somehow managing to fluke enough cuts to win the UK championship one year.
While I enjoy recovery from unusual attitudes in my attempts at aerobatic amazement, I get most satisfaction from scale flying, trying to make my models look realistic in flight.
I'm a strong supporter of the BMFA Achievement Scheme and have been an examiner for a few years.
