  1. Hi Jeff, I've been flying my riot (or my Not 4) for about 3 years now and it's safe to say it quite well worn in by this point. With regards to the control throws, the more the better. The Riot is a lovely flying airplane and can be as aerobatic or as docile as you like. On mine, I've pretty much maxed-out the throws on all surfaces. I'd set up dual rates so if you intend to use it as a trainer you can have the recommended 10mm each way and then have more throws for 'sportier' flying. Mine is not the V2, so maybe the following issue have been addressed - I just thought I'd let you know. - The landing gear is mounted to a plastic plate where the screws thread in. Over time this plate will weaken and split if you have a few hard landings. It might be worth reinforcing this plate somehow. Mine has split to the point where it almost feels like I have suspension on my gear because it flexes so much! - The ESC on mine did not last very long. I was using a 2200mah 3s as recommended and I wasn't flying like a moron or anything but after about a year it died on me. I've now upgraded to a 60 amp ESC and I haven't had any issues with that. The Riot is a very durable model and has survived me flying it for 3 years. It's even survived a mid air collision and totalled the other model! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Luccaaa
  2. Brian, Those are some lovely models! If only the weather could be that nice every day at the field... Glad to hear it has enough power, I look forward to flying it! Thanks, Luccaaa
  3. Bruce, Thanks a lot for the advice, I certainly will take a look at that manual and refer to your tips when fitting the model. The U/C problem is interesting, I may look into beefing it up knowing some of the landings this one may face! Cuban8, The point about noise has cropped in this thread before. Could you recommend another silencer to use with the CRRC? I'm not sure what size would fit it. Thanks again, Luccaaa
  4. (Sorry for resurrecting and old thread) I decided to go with a Wot 4 XL, and I even ordered one only to find it went out of stock on the next day! I've just cancelled the order as the Wot 4 XL is not expected to be in stock anywhere for a while. The shops staff called one of Ripmax's sales representatives and he could not even give a date to when they'd be due! So, amongst all the other good suggestions was the Seagull Yak 54, I think I will go with that, it looks like a lot of fun! I will hopefully be ordering it later today. Finally I can put this engine in something! Thanks, Luccaaa
  5. Thanks for the encouragement, I've certainly had some experience with props coming off these engines! I've thought about it and now believe my only 2 options are finding a spare crank as you've mentioned or making a new one. I've contacted someone who may have a spare so fingers crossed they do. If not, I'll have to think about the second option. I don't have the facilities to manufacture a new one at my home but someone who does has very kindly offered to make one for me. I'll let you all know how it turns out. Thanks again, Luccaaa
  6. Ah yes, That certainly looks like it should. The one in this engine must have snapped long ago. It hadn't been used for a very long time before we dug it out of a model and cleaned it up. Here it is back together, albeit with the broken crank. (it was even dirtier before!)
  7. Thanks again for the suggestions. Sadly, the Junior 60 was literally built around this engine, with a custom exhaust, Cowell and a home made fuel tank. This means that it would be very difficult to install another engine in it's place so If we want to see this model fly we will need this Hunter to be in working order! It's a shame the shaft is damaged, the rest of the engine is in really good condition. Thanks all.
  8. Posted by jeff2wings on 06/08/2019 22:47:17: The crankshaft is broken, the threaded portion should be much longer,it my be possible to heat treat the end of the shaft to be able to drill and tap it for a stud, hope that helps. Ah, that’s a shame! I never saw it when it was undamaged so I don’t really know much about this engine. I like the idea of tapping the inside, I’ll look into it 👍 Thanks all for the information, it’ll certainly come in handy. I’ll let you know how this one turns out.
  9. Hi there, A friend of mine recently dropped off a damaged ED Hunter which will be going in an old Junior 60 of his. The prop nut/spinner assembly's thread has been stripped and due to the design of the engine we cannot simply use a standard nut on the crankshaft as it does not protrude out of the engine as per usual (there is no damage to the thread on the crankshaft). I was hoping these two questions could be answered: - What thread is it on the crankshaft? - Where could I source another one or a suitable alternate part? Thanks in advance, Luccaaa Edited By Luccaaa on 06/08/2019 22:35:02
