  1. Thanks Chris - fingers crossed you're right ?
  2. Am I understanding you correctly, Chris - you think the rx will still work in the model even though the instructions expressly state that the rx is incompatible with a model which requires mixes for proper control of the plane (I'm a bit confused with your mention of old school and mixes, not sure what you mean)? Tim
  3. Thanks for the 'Important' note, Dennis. I think you've solved my problem. I'm not going mad - it appears I missed the bit where it states the rx is incompatible with a model that uses mixes to control flight surfaces (unfortunately, this is how the model in question works with no other option according to the user manual) so I guess I'll have to take it out and use it on another model. thanks again Tim
  4. Hi Dennis and Chris, Thank you both for your suggestions. The model itself is new to me (only a week or two old) and I created it and then set it up from scratch on the TX - as opposed to using an existing old well flown model copying it, and then adding SAFE on the duplicate model, like you did Chris - so I don't really see how there could be any odd 'hangover' settings, as there is nothing to hangover - it's all new. Also, I'm not struggling at all to set the model up on the TX, or adjust the trims and rates it's pretty straightforward including adding mixes for the canards. It's when I add SAFE that it all goes south and that is the part I don't understand and need to get a better grasp of. However, as what I've been doing clearly isn't working I may as well roll the dice and start again. ps Chris - any chance I can sneak a peak at your crib sheet please? thanks again Tim
  5. That sounds promising - if you are successful please could I ask a favour? Please can you scan and post a copy of your crib sheet so I can see which bit I'm missing. thanks Tim
  6. Thanks for the suggestion - I'll try to find the youtube video and see if it helps.
  7. Hi Steve, thanks for your reply. What I’m trying to explain (badly) is that prior to SAFE installation the gyro operates correctly ie, pick up the model and wiggle it and the surfaces move accordingly. After SAFE is installed then the gyro ceases to function, ie pick up the model and wiggle it and nothing. What should be possible is the gyro operating in the background (switchable) and SAFE available on a panic switch when required. Hope that’s a bit clearer.
  8. Thanks for your reply, Chris. As you know, I've followed the instructions (so far as I can tell to the letter) and I've also watched and rewatched the tutorials many, many times - but, alas, no matter how carefully I follow the instructions I keep ending up at the same place. Hey ho, such is life. ?
  9. Tx has been recently updated (2 or 3 weeks back) and it binds fine with all the surfaces moving as they should - also plenty of channels , DX9 with a 6 ch rx and the model only requires 4. As I mentioned, I can get the gyro working easily enough and I can adjust the gain etc. It's just when I add the safe it stops the gyro from operating and apparently you can't have one without the other. Also, I'm not using trial and error - I've watched and rewatched the Youtube tutorials (11 of them iirc) several times and I'm doing my best to follow them faithfully (not easy as tutorial is done with a 20 ch touch screen tx). Obviously I'm doing something wrong - it's the 'what' that is the problem.
  10. There new rx is set up from the tx - no more app's - you can even adjust the gain in flight. So far as I can tell I've followed the instructions but it still won't work. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what. That's the problem.
  11. Hi all, I am having trouble setting up an AR637T with safe, I've watched all the tutorials and I still can't get it to work. I can set the gyro with multiple flight modes but If I then try to add the safe option I lose all the gyro settings. Apparently it's possible (actually necessary) to have both and I should be able to set a panic button feature for the safe - so I can fly with the gyro in the background and if/when I get into trouble I hit the panic button and it saves the model by returning it to level flight. But I can't do it! If anyone has any hints or tips I'd be very grateful as it's driving me mad. TIA Tim PS apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I've searched and nothing comes up.
  12. Have you got eight brackets?….. I have - 2 obviously longer than the others and the rest more or less the same size (allowing for manufacturing tolerances).
  13. Sadly the pictures/instructions are not 1:1 scale - that would be too easy for DW's.
  14. I haven't had a chance to do any work on the model today - I will report back when I do. Thanks for all the suggestions. Much appreciated.
  15. Thanks for the image, it was kind of you to post it. The bit I'm struggling with is not locating the slots the brackets fit into. But which bracket goes in which slot - the brackets aren't all uniform (some are longer than others) so knowing which goes where would save a fair bit if time. Tim
  16. I’ve built a couple of Peter Miller kits - the Ohmen and the Grumpy Tiger Cub - which I converted to electric. I hadn’t read the bad reviews of the DW models until after I’d bought the kit, but you live and learn and I shan’t by another. Hey Ho such is life.
  17. The kit itself is ok, ie it fits together quite nicely but the instructions are a joke - almost nonexistent and the karts are mislabelled, eg F4 is actually G11 etc.
  18. Thanks - I don’t know what I’m doing wrong , but nothing comes up when I enter the search criteria .
  19. Thanks for the suggestion. I tried to find a build blog but nothing came up on my search - not sure why.
  20. Hi, I am in the process of building a Dancing Wings Tiger Moth and the instructions are somewhat brief (not to mention parts are mislabelled) - leaving you with what amounts to a big jigsaw. I’ve managed to work out most things but have got a bit stuck on the brackets that are fixed in the wings to take the struts. I’m hoping someone on here might have some experience and can point me in the right direction - the parts are different and I’m not sure which goes where (see pictures). thanks in advance. Tim
  21. there is a range of CG position for every aircraft and the position marked on the plan may not be the optimum. Adjusting CG position by small amounts will allow you to find the optimum position......... Thanks for your reply, Peter and I hope this isn't a daft question - but how will I know whether the CoG is at the optimum position? I've seen obviously tail heavy aircraft flying and I guess I must have seen nose heavy, although to my inexperienced eyes they are less easy to spot. What should I be looking for - or am I best to enlist the help of more experienced club mates on this? Adjusting the thrust angle of the motor is relatively easy as access to the mounts is pretty straightforward and I can put a washer in place without too much trouble. To be honest, I'd find that easier than trying to sort a mix as I've never done that before. thanks again for your advice/help.
  22. Thanks again for your suggestions/advice Jonathan. The CoG is correct as per the plan - but I will try your other suggestions (when we have some decent weather) and report back with the results :-). Tim
  23. Thanks for your reply, Jonathan. The climbing isn't dramatic, but it's definitely noticeable when compared to the the other models that I fly regularly (Easy Street and Yeti are my current favourites and in the nicer weather I'd tend to fly an XR61 quite a bit - they are ARTF, so I imagine things like thrust angles are all sorted by the manufacturer). On the advice of a much more experienced club mate I have trimmed it for level flight on about half throttle - which is where the Magnatiila feels happiest as it's not a model to be hooning around with. I have no thrust angles built in - I just mounted the motor square on to the firewall/F1 (is that what it's called ?) - the X mount is 12 - 6 , 3 - 9 ie + as opposed to x, if that makes sense. I've just checked the drawings and instruction manual and I cannot see that there is any recommended thrust angle - but as the model is intended to have IC I didn't really check when I built the model if I'm honest, I was more concerned with the prop clearing the cowl and the dummy engine placement within the cowl and the various spacer lengths required to achieve this. It does pull to the left a bit on takeoff, but that's easily corrected with rudder and doesn't feel 'weird' to me as I'm used to using the rudder to keep models straight on takeoff. It's the climbing under power which felt a bit strange as I'm not used to it I suppose , plus the model is doing something that I haven't asked it too (although I know I have by increasing power, as a relative newbie I tend to associate climb with elevator input). I will take your advice regarding the mix and I may try placing a washer under the top mounting point and see what it does - or I might just leave it alone and learn to live with it. Thanks for the tip on checking for right thrust - I will definitely give that a go. thanks again for your reply and advice - all very welcome ?
  24. Thanks Martin - the climbing under power isn't outrageous, but I think I might have a 'play' with a throttle to elevator mix to see if it can be fixed.
