  1. Gentlemen Thankk you all for your replies and advice. With the consensus of opinion being start small learn how ti fly well and then progress to larger planes. In all honesty these were the sort of answers I was expecting and I do have an Arrows Bigfoot foamie and a Wot trainer that fit the bill. Interesting comments about a lot of older guys, I myself am nearing 60 and after having been away from the hobby for well over 40 years playing with cars I am loving getting back into it. My passion is good old fashioned building so I can still carry on building the bigger planes and just wait until such time that I and knowledgeable people around feel that I'm proficient enough to take the step up. Many thanks again for all your help. Paul
  2. I know that conventional wisdom dictates that you should learn to fly using a high wing trainer and instructor with buddy lead to guide you through the process of learning. This all makes good solid common sense to me. My question is could the standard size trainer from the usual providers be replaced by something larger? The something larger in this case being the SKY 120 trainer designed by Tony Nijhuis. It has a wingspan of 97inches and is powered by a 38cc gas engine. Apart from its size it appears to fit all of the criteria required of a trainer and may well be slightly more durable when things don't go quite according to plan!! The reason for asking is that once I have hopefully become a more confident pilot I would like to fly large gas engined planes, not 3D, just normal flight and simple aerobatics so why not start to learn with a large plane as well? I look forward to hearing what you guys think. Paul
  3. Thanks for the info both of you. I'm beginning to realise that have more chance of seeing a Dodo walk past my front door than finding the parts. Bob: I do have the the Cowl and Canopy but like yours they are a bit tatty. Generally for an old plane it is in pretty good condition, though in the past it looks like the firewall has failed and someone has made a bodged repair. My intention is to remove the old and repair with new. Wings and Tail Feathers are all pretty good. This is a no rush project, the building should be as enjoyable as the flying. Came with a Super Tigre ST2000 and in a way I would like to keep it in period. I do have an ST3000 but that is going into a scratch built ACE Big Bingo. I do have an ST2500 doing nothing and there is also a DLE 30 on the shelf but I have ear marked that for an Acro Wot XL. I am beginning to think that I may have to many planes to build with to many engines and not enough time Cheers Paul
  4. Looking for some help. I am after a Cowl and Canopy for a Flair Christen eagle. I have tried the number for Flair but it comes back as unrecognised. Their kits seem to be available through stockists so I assume they still exist. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Paul
  5. Can anyone please help. I have just acquired a secondhand Flair Kite which I'm hoping to get airwothy again. It would be very useful to have a copy of the build instructions and/or plans. Hopefully someone will have an old copy tucked away that they would copy / loan or sell. Thanks in advance. Paul
