Repeated on the other side.
Â
Next servo wire extensions which require holes to be cut in the central bottom balsa sheet. I have previously drawn around a washer and cut out with a sharp knife, but this time I made an aluminium cutter from an old handle and used the drill and file to sharpen it.
Â
Â
Bright idea was to leave it in the drill and test on a pice of scrap.
Â
Looks good to me and also works on the bench.
Then on the first hole, disaster. Learning not to press down on the drill the secon hole looks good.
Â
Resisting the temptation to scrap the wing and start again, I teased the damaged balsa up and glued it into place.
Good result for a first try. The reason for my change of method is that on the Mighty Barnstormer I have to cut all of the holes in the wing ribs, fortunately they will be cut on the bench.
Â
Next is to make up the extension leads.

Thanks for posting, always interesting to see another person's build.
Thanks stu, I was always good at woodwork when I was at school, and it must be like riding a bike in that you never forget. A big thanks to the Forum and its members because without it and the interest shown I probably would not be building; I agree following others builds is interesting and often informative.

I must get Hound Dog ready for its maiden and finish Peggy Sue II, The Ohmen is also in the Queue. I will keep posting.

When mating the two wings up to each other, it became obvious that there was a bit of a gap
That's normal Toto.
From the pictures we can come up with a strategy for putting it right.
Just waiting for the pictures.

The hinges are
Kavan Hinges - Small (26x11mm) 10pcs KAV0129, Model Shop Leeds
my first thought was they are small, so I put four on the first elevator half.
I am now thinking these
Kavan Pin Hinge Standard 34 x16 mm, 1-11/32x5/8, 20 pcs. KAV0073/20, Model Shop Leeds
would be better for this size of model.
Â
Any thoughts?

Yes, the OZ plan is different in some ways. It looks to me that the OZ plan and article are the original design whereas my plan is a more recent kit plan possibly enlarged.
That's my thinking so if I make any changes then I am not tinkering with the original design. 🤣
Â
Time for some hinges.

During the above process, are you unplugging the esc's "servo" plug from the Rx?

Thanks GG,
By adding four slots it does seem to work better, more experiments on the way.🙂
