  1. The instructions for this older model- World Models 1.8 Piper Cub simply say a suitable rx battery so little help for the inexperienced so to me that's see what's available and err to the larger capacity, the pack that came with it is 4 cell 4.8 so an extra AA isnt going to make any difference weight wise and offers the servos a bit more power, needed or not. The Eneloop was recommended by a few, I opted for the standard 6v rather than the Pro.
  2. Thanks everyone, I've ordered a Eneloop 2000mah 6v hump pack. and a new rx switch with charging port rather than having to dismantle for a recharge or run a random extension lead and have it flapping about.
  3. Thanks for all the replies, the enerloop option keeps popping up so I'll take that recommendation. As for capacity I simply wasnt sure what was needed as I've just been on electric and they are spent very quickly.
  4. SC52 4s OS 52 clone, checked, all the servos are good for 6V, replaced the 4.8v sanwa which was the odd one out rated at 4.8V only
  5. Just picked up a first IC model in many and I mean many years. Giving it a thorough overhaul as its been pre-enjoyed. Looking for advice on RX battery, composition, Mah, prefer to go 6V. Model is a 1.8m Piper Cub, Futaba standard servos 4 channel. I have a 6v unbranded pack but cant remember the capacity and the 4.8v that came with it charged from dead to full in about 10mins! so to the bin I think. Looking at 2600 to 3300 or is that too much.
  6. Ok, I thought it pressurized the tank
  7. Didn't read it all and have only just picked up an IC model. Doesn't the exhaust pressure do just that. Another thought might be air an retract reservoir supply with some sort of pressure regulator to the tank?
  8. This is an offering from motion RC £20 -ish. "only six left" https://www.motionrc.eu/products/benchcraft-toggle-switch-with-jr-futaba-leads-bct5058-007?variant=39322150666289&currency=EUR&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&srsltid=AfmBOopniA1vis6FTO3V65kj9VbO5FRE7X-f_RKc-Ld1j7_BdTGGhY6lvbw
  9. I've seen toggle switches in a number of IC and electric models, haven't heard of a failure. Quality may be the factor
  10. circa 1900 style. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Waterproof-Toggle-Flick-Switch-SPST/dp/B00TXNA3EI?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A26Q0OBH283CLI
  11. Thanks John, I played with the iron temperature a bit and managed to stick the edges and a flat area that had lifted. I will look at the recommended adhesives.
  12. First foray into IC and traditional construction with a used ARTF World Models 1800mm Piper Cub. Ive done the woodwork needed after what seems to be a very minor early arrival. Bought the recommended piper yellow paint. Vinyl coating - I have a few edges that are peeling, do I glue them back down or can I use a iron or heat gun. The heat gun I feel may be more useful on a couple of wrinkles rather than a edge. I have a thermostatic iron etc. Advice welcome.
  13. Hi, The paint mix lady at B&Q created my own folder for paint!. Its IC so i'll follow your advice on the enamel. Thanks
  14. Picked up an old, not quite sure how old World Models 1/6 Piper Cub. Needed some woodwork around the front wing mount area, I've glued it all up but going to add some sheet ply both sides of the mount and down the posts and some triangle shaped pieces around the "quarter lights". World models still sell the covering but wonder if someone has a idea on a colour match for paint as its old and a small arear around the screen
  15. Cant say large, Plus Size is the woke version.
  16. Best do some research, when the other half is out.
  17. Never had an issue with Aliexpress, have always arrived before the indicated date and never had a duff item. This is the same item that George (4Max) sells. Its the same item made in China. To me it has always been the cost like-for-like and how quickly I want it. I've bought quite a bit from George, no issues at all and will buy again. With UK sites I've had a number of issues when ordering and paying for items that suddenly "aren't on the shelf" and could be a couple of weeks from the supplier. Probably Aliexpress!. Checking my previous orders at one well known UK outlet it is full of these cancelled orders.
  18. Under £10 at Aliexpress
  19. I have the Durafly Vampire - Canadian but ditched the motor for a modern 11/12 blade still on 4s with a Hobby Wing 80a esc
  20. Thanks for the advice on the model, fuel and electrics if youve replied to more than one question. Its a World Models 71" Piper Cub, just acquired, virtually nothing to do, missing its wing tubes but already have some suitable alloy and CF tube. Wings detach and split for transport so perfect access for battery. i like the look of the switched bec unit with display. Im fitting a glow extension to the side so just another hole to cut and handy at the field when chopping between models.
  21. First IC model in decades. Am I right in thinking that I can power the RX/servos with a lipo via a ubec rather buying rx battery packs. I have a fairly new 6v nimh pack? or similar and charger but also have loads of lipos, 1300mah 3s and up, charger etc etc so would seem to make more sense than a selection of types.
  22. Guy I got the Super Tigre from says castor oil is the devils work and used to mix his own. I guess thats why the Super Tigre is almost like new with serious compression and not a sign of residue anywhere. Was tempted to drop it in the cub but probably stick with the OS.
  23. On the OS, the manual suggests a fuel but what is the real world recommendation. I have a westons prosynth and something else I was given with a superb 1960's Super Tigre 56 2stroke.
  24. Model was from a older chap who has hung up his transmitter for the last time and its been gathering dust for a couple of years. Came without a engine. Engine is from a friend, its far too small for his needs these days so had a clear out. As suggested I'll turn the carb 180 and leave if side mounted as as long as everything lines up, will save me a glassfibre repair and paint job. Havent looked at throttle controls yet. Going to fit onboard glow extension, less need to go near the prop. Also looking at the petrol conversion.
