nanokem started following Lipo Battery Age and First Electric Twin...query

Hello all I am in the process of trying to finish my winter build. I have successfully built and flown many electric models...all single motor. My preference is building off plan and converting models designed for I.C. to electric. My current project is a B52 Mitchell, originally designed for I.C. but I am converting to electric. This will be my first twin. All is going extremely well, and I am now looking at the electrics installation and routing of wires. I have 2 options..... Option 1. ESC's in nacelles with motors. So short wires between motor and ESC and long wires to Lipo in fuselage. Option 2. ESC's in fuselage. So short wires between Lipo and ESC's and long wires from ESC's to motors. Space in the nacelles isn't a problem and access and cooling is also OK. I'm hoping there is a definite preference that you all have. Thanks in advance

Hello all Apologies for not responding sooner...away on Christmas day. Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies/suggestions. Will be following all advice. Happy flying for 2025.

Hello all I have a question regarding the age of my Lipo batteries. In Summer 2023, I replaced my existing aged and well used Lipos with new ones...all good makes. I charged them and checked the cells and all were ready for flight. Unfortunately, not long after purchase I became very ill and unable to fly. I charged the batteries down to "storage" level and put them to one side ready for getting well again. Things didn't improve health wise until the end of 2024 and I am now feeling fit and ready for Spring 2025. The question is about my Lipos. I could charge them up again and recheck the cells but I am concerned about committing them to flight. Any thoughts/suggestions on thorough ground based checks I could do or should I just take them to a battery recycling location. Thanks in advance

Hi Eric Thanks very much for the 2 replies. I'm taking a look through the other options. Thanks also for the link to your build....looks like another one for my to-build list. 🙂

Hi Eric Thanks for the response and also the really nice photo. Lovely looking aircraft. I'll take you advice on board and check out Banggood. What was the AUW of the plane in the photos when all set to take off? I don't have an AUW for the Warthog yet. Nothing in the instruction video as yet. Thanks again.

I'm just in the process of putting one of these together. It is the 60 inch span, 2 props on the wings style, not EDF's. Flite test recommend their Flite Test Power Pack C Twin Radials for the electrics (a fairly comprehensive package) but these seem to be unobtainable in the UK, plus I've actually got 2 spare 40amp ESC's and servos not in use at the moment so I'm really looking for just the motors/props/lipo that anyone might have used in their model. Any one built one of these using their own power set-up? Would be very keen to hear what you used. Thanks in advance.

Hi All Thank you to everyone for their really helpful advice. I'm going to follow up on all of it with maybe a new gun and a fair bit of practice on scrap board. I'll keep checking back on this post if more hints and tips appear.

Hi Graham. I'm starting to think this might be the way to go....a combination of 2 glue types. Do you use the UHU POR as a contact adhesive (ie apply to both surfaces and wait to dry) or glue along the channel/fold point and then join them together and hold in place?
-
Thanks Simon. I think this might be the answer. I had worked out the hotter the glue when it exits the gun, the longer it would take to "go off" and be unusable. Do I need even higher wattage? or do you find 25W enough? This Titan model seems to use 11mm sticks also.

Thanks for the reply and links. I'll check them all out.

Thanks for the response. I have checked this out and actually tried to find a supplier of the gun they are seen using. No success as yet

I am about to start building the Flite Test Warthog. Having looked at their instruction video I think i need to upgrade my glue gun which is currently a cheap and cheerful one. The chap in the video seems to be using a gun that can shoot out glue at a rapid rate. I have used my current glue gun on several foam planes, but this Warthog will require me to run beads of hot glue approx 30" long. Having tried to achieve this on some scraps with my current glue gun, the glue has dried by the time the 30" bead is finished which would make the joint pretty much un-joinable. The slow speed the glue leaves the gun seems to be the main problem plus the fast drying of the glue. Can anyone recommend a good fast flowing glue gun and even glue stick that might make this bead achievable. Thanks in advance.
