Thanks MattyB. Yes all seems secure with the battery and the connection too. The radio was turning itself on when it was left alone on the bench. Not being moved at all. It seems ok now and I’m off to my local patch on Sunday for some checks and hopefully flights. The actual cause is still a mystery but I hope my feeble attempts of the switch clean might of done the trick. Fingers crossed .

As a follow up to my original problem, I have the following update. I worked some “servisol” into the main switch, I even removed the switch gear to get to the back of the switch circuit board. I found some grey flakey residue over the contacts. This was easily removed with a light rubbing using a toothbrush. I applied more servisol in and around the switch, and wiped away an excess. When the radio was assembled and battery connected I switched on, went through the start up announcements and switched off. After a couple of seconds the radio bleeped on /off by itself in an annoying way, so I removed the battery and left my workshop in a sulking mood. A week later I went back in the workshop to set up a new model, reconnected the battery in my radio and switched on. All good. After an hour of use setting up a model I switched off. It stayed off. I bought the radio indoors to see what happens over time. I even put it by my bed before settling down to sleep. It was silent all night. So far after a few days the problem has stopped. Was it the servisol on the switch, or the battery being removed for over a week. I’m not sure, but so far so good. Will go through range checks when back at the patch, and hopefully continue with my flying .
  4. Well I was expecting this forum to be buzzing with comments from flyers up and down the country on how they got on. My local club Concordmfc Darenth took part and everybody had a great time. I believe we had 16 in the air as the clock struck 12. With trouble free take offs and landings, everybody taking part had the biggest grins I’ve seen in ages. A serious record attempt it was but fun was the biggest winner today. How did your club get on ? Kell

I’m going to try some servisol as previously recommended. Kell

Mike I believe you may have the answer. With the switch on my radio starts up fine, it works well and no glitches have been noticed. I then switch off and couple of seconds later it begins to reboot, off reboot off etc. I unplug the main battery and wait a minute before plugging it back in and it’s perfect. Happy to sleep without a mummer. I’m guessing that removing the main battery kills power directly unlike the switch which softly slows the power down. Would that be right. Would I damage the radio by removing main battery power ? I was going to fit a flip switch on the case to save keep opening the battery cover. I’m aware I could catch it while flying tho so maybe not such a bright idea.

Spoke with Richard at T9 this morning. His opinion is probably the switch so start there. Unfortunately replacement switches are no longer available. Taranis radios are relatively cheap compared to other brands and it comes to the point of costs for replacement parts or go for a new upgrade radio. It’s my birthday soon so maybe a present to myself, I think I’m worth it. Thank you to those who helped on this thread. Your help and tips have been helpful.

Peter I’ve still got in place my original battery, it holds a full charge without issue, gives me a good days flying and recharges well. Denis I’m not sure what you mean about “holding the grips” is that when I power off ? I appreciate your tips, I’m desperate. It’s taken me a good while to master this radio’s abilities with still more to learn so I’m very keen to fix this annoying issue .

Entering my man cave one evening I became aware of a clicking noise coming from my transmitter case, on opening it, my radio sprang into life only to shut down a nano second later. The switch is off, but yet it turns itself on / off continuously. After this strange behaviour I’ve trawled the internet, and found it’s a strangely common phenomenon. Lots of suggestions but no fixes as yet. People have changed their slider switchs which doesn’t help, renewed the on board 3v button battery without solving the issue. Has anybody out there solved this bewitching transmitter problem yet
  10. The BMFA haven’t issued any comments yet, unless I’ve missed them somewhere. Maybe that aren’t too sure either. It comes down to the word essential I guess. It’s not essential for me to going flying, so I won’t. Yet I know two members from my local club who took up model flying due to anxiety and stress related illnesses. I’m sure there might be more.
  11. Yup me too, I’m afraid . So what happens now ?
  12. Here in sunny Kent, we’ve mown the strip, got the green light from the landowner, messaged all 130 members on the do’s, dont’s and “stay alert” scenarios. Saturday is our day. From feed back on our WhatsApp group it’s not going to be a big stampede, luckily. Having a few members over 70 I can see their apprehensions. A couple of points we’ve introduced are where possible, only bring down your most reliable fun plane that doesn’t need a mate to help assembly or hand launch. Models that you can set up, check and fly and then go home with a big grin on your face. Something else we’ve noticed that’s happened during lockdown, is our local non flying public, whom have taken a liking to our open space for exercising, cycling, dog walking and even a socially distanced group yoga class on our beloved patch. So we’ve put up a few little flyers on the entrances and newly made paths, just to remind them that WE ARE BACK ! .. I’m sure some locals will be happy to watch again our model looping the loop etc as they walk their dogs, but be careful as there will be some that will take pictures if we huddle in groups or God forbid pass around the cakes while having a cuppa. Take care everybody we could be judged more closely now.
  13. I’ve decided to sign up, take the test, pay my fee and enjoy 2020 at my local patch. Worrying about things that may or may not happen is just wasting time. I’ve personally known 6 people who were worrying about the the rights and wrongs of Brexit in 2016. Sadly they are no longer with us. What’s the point in worrying. Enjoy today !!!!
  14. One question I’d like to ask, has there ever been reports of model aircraft flying around Gatwick or Heathrow or any other large operating airports.
  15. Well I’m gonna be positive. After a few poor years I thought this Saturday was an improvement. Hot day and difficult wind conditions, I thought the pilots done a great job. I’ve been flying for 20 years, yet still get a buzz watching anything flying around. What ever happened to that flying lawnmower? Thought the commentator has come on leaps n bounds now. Always going to be hard following DB, but he’s developed his own style now and is entertaining. I bought a peach of a Stampe in the B&B. Wonderfully built and a laser 150 fitted up front too. Glad I took my van as it just fitted in whole. Fired up the engine next day and overjoyed to hear that sweet sound, purring away. A day out for 12 quid is a bargain these days. Saw lots of interesting things in the quad tent, bought some must have bits n bobs, bumped into some old mates and had an ice cream. A good day out for me. Wings and wheels is at last on the up again.
