  1. Thank you. I have now received my repaired ignition system from Mike Ridley, trying to set it up again I’m having a problem setting parameters on my DX9 transmitter. It flashes fast until I connect the battery then slower before setting the “on” position but it will not accept the on or off positions any ideas where I’m going wrong please.
  2. Thanks for the info, unfortunately I don’t have voltage control I’m still on the older DX9 tx, however, I will do as you suggest and try different throttle setting on ground runs before my next flight starting are around 30%
  3. Hi Martin I took your advice and contacted Mike he has just returned both of my units fixed one was under warranty and the other was only £30!! absolutely brilliant and what a really nice man. Thankyou for the recommendation, another question for you or Mike I have been running my engine with the glow plugs on up to 90% throttle setting which is way too long, have you any idea when I can switch to power off please. Thanks again Ray. ps. my “handle” Galcoray was an error it should be Falcoray after my Falco aircraft, fat fingers! I’ve no idea how to correct it though! R
  4. Hi Phil I decided to send them to Mike for repair, he also has a new one on his shelf if they can’t be repaired so hopefully be in the air again soon!
  5. Hi Ace Mike said to check the track from the main red input wire where it joins the control board as the track from there to the distribution module sometimes burns out, to fix this simply solder a piece of thin silver wire to bridge the gap. In the end I decided it was better to leave to the expert, Mike, so they were both parcelled up and sent to him for repair. Ray.
  6. CcHi I spoke to Mike today what a brilliant knowledgeable and enthusiastic man. He gave me some advice on what the problem probably was, I checked it earlier and it looks as though he is right, Mike also told me how to fix it or to send it to him for a repair, as I have 2 failed units I will be sending them to Mike for repair

  8. Thanks Frank I’ll definitely send them to him he might be able to fix them.
  9. This one of the fittings which are difficult to short out as opposed to the crocodile clips which are fitted as standard.
  10. Firstly thanks for all of the help and advice. Someone mentioned opening the unit to see if there’s any obvious damage, the picture attached shows what I think is the damaged part which sends the current to the individual glow plugs. This could be either voltage too high or shorting of the plug leads I think it’s voltage as I always change the crocodile clips for the much safer push and twist ones as shown in the pictures.
  11. Thanks for that Jon I’ll send a picture of the fitting shortly. I think you are right I have been frying them by leaving them on up to about 90% throttle, I was always afraid of losing power at low revs. Fuel wise I use methanol 85% oil 8% and nitro 7% it is a little oily but safe! I have used Optimex premixed before but prefer to mix my own.
  12. Thanks very much for the advice and suggestions I think I’m going to bite the bullet and buy another unit, hopefully for around the £150 mark. A couple of things which have been suggested were the high voltage and shorting, I use a single cell 5000mah lipo battery 3.7 volts and the glow plug connectors are the push and twist type as shown in my picture, which shouldn’t be susceptible to shorting. The other thing I have always done is to leave the power on to the glow plugs up to 90% of the throttle range I’m wondering this might be the cause? I can’t think of anything else to do just hope the next new one lasts a bit longer The second picture is of the internals of the ignition unit, as was suggested earlier I opened it and the part circled looks to have burnt out, it has 7 outlets one to each flow lead. Thanks again for the help and advice.
  13. Thanks for all the advice, I will go back to the supplier as Martin suggests I will also try to find a source for a wiring diagram to make sure I’m not wiring it incorrectly.
  14. Thanks Phil I’ll contact him.
