Filleted, sanded and shaped might need a small amount of filler
-
Cheated as I unfolded the form in 3d and laser cut the result. meant I could wrap the center section around the formers and then just tack the ends with Ca so was quite quick. May try this technique on larger models. temporary struts are my wife’s dress pins (need to get my own)

Motor nacelles “planked”
-
Might even add the led light bars at 1g extra. Not quite sure where I would put them though
-
@Simon Chaddock it’s currently at 40g! 0.5g of props a carbon rod and a few bits of wire for the elevator control might be another g rest of the stringers another 0.5g perhaps and covering 2g. Might get in just under 45g.

Dry run with electronics. servo started working. No idea why not sure if I trust it. all the wires stretch just about but think I want to raise the rx up off the floor a little so it’s bang on the cg
-
Wings are on, nacelles frames on wing all looking fairly true so far.

So reading up and doing my own searches have found that what I am currently doing may be best (layering tissue) for weight at least. but I have questions about that. how do people get such neat finishes?? mine are not bad. But I think I would struggle to get really decent results on complex designs. I have also heard rumours about using coloured dope! Is it time to invest in an airbrush?

Took servo apart all the gearing is fine including the pentonemeter whotsit seems to be connected in properly. What I did notice was that it occasionally worked as it should when the connecting wire was in certain positions so think there is some connection issue though I couldnt see anything further. slightly worried that it may be a signal issue from the rx but this is only system I have that uses the five wires servos so can’t test that theory. have bought new servo off Ali express so will find out in 9-16 days 😞

Hey so I want to add a bit more decoration to my newest project than I have in the past. I cover my small models in tissue/dope normally and have layered it up/used different colours to add some flair but was wanting to know what’s the best way to add details like the scalloped leading edge look (not sure what it’s called) spray? Brushed? What types of paint work with dope and when would you apply?

Otherwise starting to look ship shape

Mixed news tonight though. Build coming on, paused putting stuff together to do a dry run of the electronics positioning. Going to have to do some alterations to the internals but nothing too bad. Worse was when I plugged in servo to see which direction it needed to be in to make sure it’s not inverted (won’t be able to flip with tx) the servo arm just kept spinning! Will need to rectify this before I can go much further unfortunately. Anyone have any idea! Never had this happen before

Currently sitting at just under 14g

Some progress lots of little jobs (everything’s little on this) wings and tail feathers are all sanded and ready for putting together. Need to decide on colours befor I can progress with that though!!!

I have same worries tbh but so far weights have come out close to calculated. current weight of fuselage and wheel is 8.5g. tail feathers was 2, wings were around 2 each if I remember so we’re at around the 15g mark electronics we’re about 23g covering say 2g so we’re at the 40g mark. But we have at least 5g of stuff still to come So don’t think it will come out at calculated weight of 45g but think I should fairly easily hit 50g which will still be 10g under donor weight. the 2mm strips of ply are surprisingly light which most of the frame is down to thickening to 3mm around joints to help the slots hold rigidly enough to give it enough accuracy. again think glue is the biggest unknown. Think I could have lightened the fuselage by using thinned wood glue instead of CA esp as I’ve run out of good tips so was a little on the heavy side in places. Now the frame is rigid though rest will be white glue.
-
Few more details done. Trying to slow down so I think it through as the order is quite important so I don’t build myself into a corner
-
Dry fit of wings onto fuse. Everything’s starts to feel a bit more rigid which is good
-
I know adding extra resistance, in this case extra wire, between rx and battery is not good but how much not good? Eg if I lengthen the wires by 20mm will that be meaningful?
-
Baby steps at the moment as can’t find much time due to life pressures but managed to quite literally squeeze the battery box in. Had to cut it and glue in place as should have installed before the sides went on. battery fits it’s going to be awkward getting it in and out but should be do-able
-
It is the only wheel!
-
Important update!
-
Semi-dry fit of the fuselage frame as I discovered I had forgotten to cut )and laminate) one of the formers doh!

starting the fuselage build

Forum members' new models: Let's see them.

Been looking at this one on outerzone love its odd lines -
Reason for having seperate central spar was that the good place to situate that wouldn’t line up with the thickest area of the aerofoil. I think original design had no spar at all but did have a flat center section of the wing which I do not have
