  1. I’ve got several SC 46 2t engines. All have, to some degree, loose HS needle threads. I assume from poor tolerances on manufacturing and age.

I've added an extra O ring of fuel tube on the needle shaft.

What good would adding PTFE tape around the threads do? Does the tape deteriorate in the presence of glow fuel?

    Thanks!

  2.

I’m going to put all the Lancaster engines in my Dual Ace twin. That way I can run up the engines in the air and see how they all perform in an airframe before they go in, better that way I think.
Don’t know why I didn’t think of this before.....!

  3. These next set of photos show the wing rib tabs that Brian made that were not cut on the balsa sheets but are shown on the plans. He is also modifying the LE sheeting to make it more robust.

The rear and front formers of B4 are also shown as a dry fit. He has mentioned that, though big, it’s not a complicated build....” there’s just a an enormous amount of wood”

  4. Well, Brian’s not been asleep!

The nacelles were all built first, the wing ribs can be adjusted to suit, and we know the retracts all work ok. It appears that the build tabs on the wing ribs are missing from the cutting sheets so a packing piece is put in to compensate...

I’ve been through all my engines for the project and run them up again. Two need new bearings as they weren’t changed when I bought them. I’ve 7 SC46s for the build. They’ll be run up again and the best 4 will go in the plane.

  5. Ok, Brian is now 100% better, with no foot infection. He’s laid out the wing ribs and the wing tubes are dry fitted. Flaps will not now be added.

He’s been out of action for a year now with his foot and other issues but there’s now light at the end of the tunnel and he’s champing at the bit to get going.

  6. Had about 10 short trimming flights this afternoon. It’s the first time I’ve been out since early January!!

The flaps worked very well at 90*, and needed only 3-4mm of down elevator to compensate.

The plane will need some weight on the port wing but that will be done this week as it’s due to pour down all this week....again
