  1. Finally got everything finished and ready for paint. I’ve got about 80’ of flap and no issues, is that sufficient?
  2. Kind offer, Steve, thanks. I’ve never had a cowl on it as it has a DLE 30 up front. I’ve got an unused one somewhere.
  3. Inch by inch... The flap hinges are reinforced with brass tubes. IIRC 3.5mm ID. When using epoxy to fit in the pin hinges ..... don’t forget to work and heat the Vaseline into the knuckles
  4. OH ....back to the original title 🤗 YEEEE HAAAAA
  5. It’s a cover, I think it’s a great one
  6. Got the nylon from here https://www.profabrics.co.uk/
  7. I know to some I’ve missed some steps and methods with covering, it’s just a skip over for the refurb. The next few days the flaps and ailerons with be installed with Robert 1/8” pin hinges and push rods installed.
  8. .....Don’t panic. Gentle heating over the frame makes the fabric shrink. Adding coats of 50% shrinking dope will close the pores of the weave and make the fabric begin to shrink. A little more gentle heating will keep the shrink going.
  9. Once the nylon is placed onto the frame, it’s just a matter of liberalsoaking dope thinner through the fabric while gently rubbing into the layers of dope. The dope then softens and comes through the weave. As the thinners evaporate the dope hardens sticking the nylon onto the frame. The trick is to rub the thinners as it’s flashing off....and... keep the cloth in place, straight and not introduce creases. Wearing a face mask is essential that filters out the vapours. It looks loose in an open frame....
  10. For those who don’t know and who’ve never used nylon and dope, even thin diluted layers are important. 50/50 thinner and dope over about 4 coats. Then increase the concentration to about 75dope/25 thinners over the next 2-3 coats. You should end up with a varnish like shine ..... This then leaves a good layer for when you cover in nylon
  11. Oh, that’s a keeper! Next time we get together, I must bring the Giant Mannock and we’ll hunting for some Bosch..( ratatatat) I was thinking of Wings and Wheels in 2025 at the new venue
  12. Fuselage ready for painter Anthony @ AJS Bodyworks to do his magic. I saw him earlier in the week, and asked if couldn’t do it. He agreed, so it’s base coat 2K white and with whatever he then decides to do. “ Flames !! It’s got to have flames” ... That will be interesting to see what he does! Now only the wings to start on
  13. Well, here we are. Progress has been excellent today. As the photos bear out, elevators installed and pinned ( not yet glued ). Rudder will be done soon, already to go though. The pictures are before and after plus detritus.....
