  1. My Apache Chipmunk has a one piece wing and I can just about shoehorn it in into my saloon car, The fuselage is quite large too but it all fits in okay. I was just thinking - perhaps when Tim gets his Chippy made,(which shouldn't take too long knowing his build speed) we could all get together for 3 ship (or more) formation flying! It would be spectacular seeing a number of fifth scale Chipmunks all flying together at scale speed. And who knows maybe we could put on a display at W&W's..And have Slec sponsor us David, what servos' are you using in yours, and what engine?
  2. Door frames are the main culprits when it comes to hangar rash.. There's a certain way to carry fuselages indoors - tail first! Edited By ASH. on 20/07/2019 13:45:58
  3. Transparent Yellow would look gorgeous, with a hint of brown or green trim for the vintage look.. I prefer No11 blades.
  4. Happy for you, congrats.. I know how exciting it is when you get a new model in a box. You can't wait to open it and see what goodies are inside.. It's like being a kid at Christmas!. I see you've got all quality gear there, it should build into a super model. Ditch the plastic spinner for an aluminium one.. I know I'm jumping the gun here but any thoughts on covering? I think transparent blue and white (Oracover) would look great like on the Sig Rascal. Don't use black on leading edge, not visible when landing. Enjoy the build.
  5.   Whenever I use cyno I keep Debonder handy., just in case! 🤓. I only use thin ca - for furry hinges Also methylated spirit when working with epoxy   Edited By ASH. on 19/07/2019 13:47:33
  6. Yes, and overcharge quite easily! Not good for any battery.
  7. And I'd say an iMax B6 charger is well within your capabilities to use. Not difficult for any man in this hobby - very simple in fact!
  8. Nu Me, get the iMax B6 charger (original with hologram on base). It will serve you well for any batteries you will need to charge now and in the future. You don't need to keep everything on charge.. If you use 6V quality Sanyo/Panasonic Eneloop battery 2000mAh (low self-discharge) for the receiver/servos and charge once, then it's ready whenever you wish to fly. Same goes for the Tx battery and glowstick. Later on you can upgrade to a 2cell LiFe batt for the Rx to save weight etc. Edited By ASH. on 13/07/2019 13:56:19
  9.   Very nice David, love the detail. What make of paint did you use? And pilot? Mine is covered in silver glosstex. Heavy but nice! Edited By ASH. on 02/07/2019 12:25:15
  10. Tim, it would be great to see a build log when you start on your Chipmunk. Yes, oleos are a must on such a model and cockpit detailing - dials and such. There's so much scope for detailing on this one, rivets, leg fairings, landing light etc. I missed W&W this year, there's Cosford next weekend, possibly. Definately want to go to the Nationals for the weekend in August. Ps. What bargains did you all get?? - I'm nosey.
  11. Tim, congrats on acquiring the Slec Chipmunk. It was originally made by Apache Aviation and builds into a very impressive 1/5th scale model. I have one, yet to fly it.. The new version can be made with 2 piece wing. You do need a nice scale pilot (bust), it has a huge greenhouse canopy. PM sent
  12. Thanks for explaining Tim. I'm always amazed at what modellers can achieve with will and determination. I would have found that kind of repair quite daunting. Tacking with cyno is the first step and working in sections helps. I repaired my PC-9 a few times and she flew better than ever, but a broken fuse esp in that area is not for the fainthearted... Out of interest, did you use finishing epoxy with the fibreglass or regular 30 min? Edited By ASH. on 24/06/2019 21:07:20
  13. She looks beautiful.. Well done Tim! If there's any pics of the repair please put them up.
  14. There's Good news and Bad news,, Bad news first - Today being Summer Solstice was the longest day.. So,, it's all down hill from here on chaps. The Good news is... Lots more gorgeous flying days still to come,, So lets rejoice!
  15. Beautiful model Martin, shame it's not going to make the right sound. Glow doesn't have to be messy!
  16. Happy belated Birthday Gary & David. Congrats. May you have many more flying years to come! I think this thread will run and run. It can do - if no-one upsets anyone.
  17. David Ashby, of course..!! So John you're chummy with upper management..
  18. David - the guy who's living it up in France!?
  19. Good thread John, I love to hear peoples' good news stories. It helps greatly in keeping a positive frame of mind. I'm all for Positivity! Don't get me wrong I can moan and groan with the best of you's but I choose not to today. I've got health issues and concerns but no point dwelling on any of that right now. I have peace of mind and contentment right now and a lot more for which I am really grateful. Gratitude goes a long way, so does humour. You guys are so funny! Summer is here - lots of great flying to look forward to. Once the rain clears! All is well.. Edited By ASH. on 13/06/2019 22:10:57
  20. Percy, you're getting your water for half the price compared to what we pay here down south. We're getting ripped off. And you have lovely sweet soft water washed down from the fells.
  21. Ahh,, the Lake District.. God's green land. We need the rain to keeps things nice and lush. Am I the only one who loves the rain!
  22. Hi Ron, just out of interest.. What Futaba servos do you use?
  23. "Hills and mountains on your doorstep.." Thanks for the photos Percy. I just love the Lake District,, no finer place on earth. I used to visit the Lakes often some years back. Being there just feeds my "soul". No wonder it has millions of visitors every year. Hope to be there this summer.
  24. Thanks Adrian, received the pics.. PM sent. Adrian has come out the blue to the rescue. It amazes me the help and generosity aeromodellers give to each other. We must be a different breed.
  25. Thanks Dave, I had sent them a email enquiring but no reply. I don't need for a twin but someone in Oz may want one so I'll let him know. Cheers..
