  1. So i've made a step towards the dark side and bought an cough cough electric cough Art-Tech Alpha Jet and very happy with it i am too LiPo's an all!!!!. Being new to EDF stuff i'm curious to what control throws would be a good place to start as the distructions make no mention of them and being a more rapid model i'm assuming smaller throws are the way forward. Has anyone got any ideas?.Cheers.
  2. Ok, thanks i'll have a look and see what the latest price is they are quoting.
  3. Less than £100?????, where was that from Russ if you don't mind me asking.
  4. There are dozens of them around here (Wantage) but sadly the only ones i've seen so far are the tarmac pizza style ones...there's 2 within 100yds of each other just up the road, and yes its bitterly cold out there...i was going to charge up and blow the dust off the Pulse XT 40 this weekend but i think i might chicken out.Edited By Shuglu on 28/01/2011 16:16:29
  5. If you have a look at these photos you'll see what i did...here.I haven't had any problems with this set up.
  6. Another vote for the Pulse 40...i went straight to one from a boomerang trainer....no sweat and if anything its easier to fly.
  7. SLEC every time...i don't remember the post being too expensive either. Worth a look though and very helpful.
  8. Keep us posted on how you get on Russ. I'm just about to purchase said model so any pointers would be a great help.cheers
  9. Hi AlanI think that its a bit of a sweeping statement to say "always go for 40:1". You say 40:1 before break-in in your post and 25:1 afterwards. Thats i'm sure shoud be the other way around. 25:1 is an oilier mix to keep the new bore/lining well oiled during the harsh break-in period. You should then slowly adjust the mix you use out to something like 40:1 and keep in mind that as you change you will need to tweek the mixture screw. Don't go any leaner with the oil than the manufacturer says just in case and just lean it out until the engine sounds comfortable and you have a nice hint of smoke from the exhaust. My CRRC engine also asked for a mineral oil to run in on so i just used a cheap scooter oil and then its ok to slowly change to a synthetic and i've gone for the castrol TTS you mention. The 3 or 4 hours of running so far have mainly been on mineral and i think its starting to pay off. The enging starts well, never cuts out and sounds quieter, smoother and there's certainly no shortage of power. ps the castrol smells great too!!
  10. I bough a wooden broom handle for about a pound and a lenght of foam pipe lagging for about the same. Cut the handle into cricket stump lengths and sharpen'd the ends. Then just push/hammer in the summer them into the ground and put a bit of pipe lagging over each one to protect your plane. Good enough to restrain my 26cc Zero on full tilt. Sorted.

1983 Honda Accord...just passed its MOT first time again. Takes everything up to a 2m span. What more do you want for £200
  12. I ordered something from Galaxy Models on 1st November.  4 Weeks later and a couple of phone calls (some not returned) later i still don't have my order. Its not their fault entirely as its a supplier issue. That i can accept as its not their fault (some might say they shouldn't advertise something if they haven't got that something in stock but thats not always possible),  Thing is they had my money at time of order and haven't once suggested they refund until its in stock which i think is a bit pants really. New delivery estimate mid December!!.Good job i'm not in a hurry.! I've had 3 deliveries ordered and delivered from HK in the meantime. Sometimes its really hard to stay loyal to the UK. We do ourselves no favours.
  13. I'm working in Cologne in Germany this week and i was just having a search for local clubs/shops etc and i came across the website for the Euroflugtag which is held near here i think. I was having a look through the photos of a recent event and i found this photo which i thought was pretty amazing...its one of those pictures that just makes you go WOW!. There is a follow up shot which isn't so surprising! Enjoy.LINK. A little too close for comfort some would say!!

  15. Having had a small "off" recently i need to recover my wing and ideally remove the hinges to do so properly. Having gone to the trouble of getting proper hinge glue i now find that removing the mylar difficult to say the least. Has anyone else had to do this before that could maybe point me in the right direction before i break something.
  16. Well i'd check that the fuel tank is breathing ok to start. What kind of system do you have..ie 2 or 3 line. Are you using the choke flap to start it or just for priming it? When it does fire does it rev up or not?. Lets start there and see if we can't narrow it down.
  17. I run a simple 3 line system. Tank-Carb, Breather and a dedicated filler line. Never had a problem. No need to pressure the tank with a gas engine.
  18. I flew mine with a Irvine 53 and just used 8 x 5" bands on the wing to stop the wing lifting in more extreme manovers. If the wing lifts pulling up into a loop it will tighten up in the turn and will be too much for the wing to take.SNAP!!
  19. Oh yes and i've just remembered i need a new prop too so there's another £12ish.
  20. MMMM quite Ernie...thanks for that...lol.....so i've stripped the wing back now to something i can work with and ordered the balsa and ply that i need. It all came to a little over £10 plus post so if thats all it costs me plus some epoxy and a recover i'll be a happy bunny. I'll start making some cardboard replicas of the broken ribs this weekend while i wait for the wood. The supplier quotes 3-5 days so it could be next week before i really get my teeth into it.
  21. Its not full blown soft balsa but then its not ply either....its somewhere in the middle so i expect the repair to be stronger then the rest when its all done......but yes scary is how i would describe some of the work too.!!
  22. Tell me about it. Its always hard the first time you break your pride and joy. I should be thankfull most of the airfame is intact (ref Flanker's crash). I'll post the rebuild pics on here though as i know pictures say a thousand words and if someone else can learn from my rebuild then some good will have come from the whole thing.
  23. Flanker having flicked through your YAK rebuild i feel so much better and in comparison mine is but a surface wound. Still its not the repair that scares me so much as putting a 7kg bird back in the sky and have the confidence to pull back in a turn without fear of the wing giving out. They always say you should get straight back on when you fall off don't they. Thing is i don't even class this as a crash as such, just a rough arrival on the strip. I'm taking my pulse xt40 out today just to get over my incident yesterday. I don't want to be overly critical of the build quality of the plane but i've a few things to say......what main spar...it doesn't really have one as you can see or not in the photos!! and more glue on the joints would be nice....neither would have prevented the damage you see but i can see why folk build there own.....i built a Precedent T180 a few years ago and i think i went overboard compared to this.
  24. Being a warbird its wings are asymmetrical and narrows towards the tip which makes things extra tricky. Top and bottom sheeting needs replacing along with quite a lot of structural stuff, but lying the wing flat is going to be all but impossible as it has a few degrees of diehidral so i need to try to figure a way of getting round that problem first. Then i'll start with the main structural wood first the the ribs then the sheeting last (obviously!). If anyone thinks i should do it another way please shout up. Its looking a bit daunting but with the cost of a new wing set as much as the plane was new its not an option. I found a great "how to" elsewhere and will be able to use a lot of the advice on there about recontructing the broken ribs then cutting out new ones from the templates etc etc. I'll have to make a shopping list for the balsa. As the retract mount came out complete i'll try and get it back in in one piece too. Edited By Shuglu on 23/09/2010 09:50:48
