  1. Ok so the big shiny box arrives and is smartly opened to present me with a well packaed ARTF kit good start! no damaged bits. First job was to take stock and make sure all was there im glad to say it was. Ok you are probably dying to get the glue mixed and start sticking but stop! go make a cupper and read the instructions from front to back then read them again!. With the Boomerang the firstjob is to glue the two wing halfs together using 30 min epoxy there is a dihedral brace supplied so dont worry all the angles are done for you simply insert the brace into the channel on one wing half and mark the point where it comes to rest this should be the half way point! if its not then you will have to adjust as required. Ok making sure you have put the brace in the right way up (its v shaped as you look at it) trail fit the other wing if they meat neatly you have it right remove from wings and apply generous amounts of epoxy into one channel and to one half of the brace insert it in and push fully home and allow to dry. Now repeat the process for the other half then slide the wings together been carefull they align properly you can use tape if you want to ensure they dont move while setting. Please excuse the lack o picks for this part of the build i got a little carried away and forgot to take any What you should end up with is some thing like this. (bellow)
  2. Hi there, I need some advice my Sc46 arrived today and i have to say that the instructions that are with it are very poor indeed compared to others i have seen now needle valve adjustment i am quite comfy with its the air bleed screw i need help with can some one explain please. regards Alex
  3. David, Thanks for that no i havent cut them back as yet all though it is on the to do list i also need to do the same for rudder and elevator and throttle im not quite sure why they are this long in the first place as it is just not needed imho that is there may well be a reason for it im not aware of. I have a few ideas for your beginners articles David i will put them on as soon as i have time i did try already as you might of seen but it wasdeemed to long but Timbo has put me right with regards to this so shouldnt have  a problem next time. Timbo could you leave me a PM about our previous discusion please maybe send those pics if you have time cheers mate.
  4. This the first time i have ever attempted to build a model of this nature fresh to the hobby i am really enjoying it and the guys on this site are just great theres all ways some who will help you. I wanted to do this so people such as my self can see what it really involvs to get air born come on in your all welcome and please leave any comments that you care to.....
  5. Birdy i think that your missing the point here it is not common place to be able to order fuel on line anyway only a few places will sell it to you that way and you have to buy a large quantity at once.
  6. My mostly finished home made flight box and imho beats £30-£40 as i have seen in many places! And here we are coming along ok i reckon?
  7. This is where i had problems as you can see this is the horn position as per the instructions note elevator is neutral now forgive me i dont think that 8mm of movent(down) is going to alot! where the bottom left of the horn as you see it touhed the fuselage, Channel was removed to over come this happily i now have full deflection in both directions !! Result
  8. Said servo mount fitted in place with servo.
  9.  The Aileron servo mount Note: it was necessary to remove two V shaped groves so that i could bend the mount when fitting to allow for the dihedral angle of the wing
  10. Well so far so good i now have what looks like an areoplane as you can see it has been quite straight forward so far one or two minor problems but i think i have got those sorted now. Although the elevator control horns caused me some concern as when as instructed to do so in the manual i lined up the horn over the centre line the elevator hinge marked out and drilled the holes fitted the horn checked "up" movement fine! checked "down" movement less than half the "up" travel !!!  Why, because the horn now hits the rear bottom edge of the fuselage Great! so instead of repositioning the horn and have to bodge the holes i cut a channel from the fuselage to give the required clearance see the pic !! Anyway got to go and install the reciver and fuel tank
  11. Good point Eric have done that now, just so your aware i live in Shifnal which is in Telford Shropshire
  12. thanks Andy i know its quite sad really that is the way things are
  13. Kelvin,  i will remember that when fitting it Pics i mightas well take up photographyat the same time took loads hardest part is remembering to take one of the important bits. So if you check tommorow there will be some tasters on here for you to see. Will leave most for the blog though.  Alex.
  14. Andy yes i appricate what it is that i have its not a toy. And demands respect from the word go. every precation i can take i am doing so and when it comes to flying it then every one elses safety is top priority i should tell you i live in country and have roughly 10 acres that i can access so finding a suitable site is not going to be a problem. There are many reasons i am doing things the way i am not that i have time to tell you them all but one of the mayjor ones is money. Iwould like to try a park flyer or similar if only i could afford it and i dont know anyone who would be giving them away or id be first in line  The build of the Boomer is going well not much left to do now.
  15. I remember years agothere were loads of model shops in my area 3 alone in my town not so anymore   There are no shops that i can find in my area that sell fuel i needsome 5 or 10% mix does any one know where i can get fuel from i live in Telford Shropshire have no car at present so it needs to be closei I will have my trainer built by weekend and i dont want to be grounded due to no fuel!!! The one shop sells it but its got 16% nitro content i suspect that this is way to much i run a SC46 can some one tell me if im right not to use it or if i would get away with it?
  16. Hi guys Your not wrong there Timbo "measure twice cut once" is a rule i will now not forget when i maked out the tail to remove some covering i must of been on imperial planet or something a good job i checked, scapel in hand! Ready to cut about 2" to much not a major promlem but who wants to repair a brand new plane! Apart from this the build is going well wing section complete with servo and rods installed with dihedral  going the right way, DOWN as you look at it... just kidding. tail section on but no control horns as yet and the servo's and switch are mounted ready to accept the rods. Fuel tank build but not installed yet waiting for engine  Non plane: Field Box is built with power panel included ( why pay £35+ for what i can make for a tenner!) And a big grin as i enjoy every minute it really is an enjoyable process i finding out the building is going to be a big part of this hobby for me i can see that already. Will pop a couple pics on if you would like to see how its going.
  17. THANKS FOR ENCOURAGEMENT GUYS I started to take the photos so watch this space!!! The build so far, i have finished the wing including servo and pushrods Next the tail!! I am reading every three times and taking my time to the extreme checking and checking again ,the devil is in the detail you know!  And i love every minute of iti just cant seem to stop this internal grin Must go Epoxy resin  is calling my name
  18. Thinkimight well do that blog i just had a look theres nothingof the sort there might be good for some one
  19. Slow loading! it is more like its just not there it just cant find any page other than the home page! Engine wise im playing it safe for now and sticking with an SC46 i would like to be able to drop a O.S in it but price is driving my choices at the minute i'm affraid and as the SC is going for under £40 at the mo from Galaxy i would be silly not too I would like to do a blog on it depends on time really and also if people would actually be interested if i did what i might well do is take alot of pics while i do the buid then i could write it up at my own pace as i have time
  20. Thats right Timbo it is a Boomerang and it came today so i hope to be up and running by the weekend! Malcome i take on board what you have said but be assured it is not something i have rushed into and i researched it as extensively as i possibly can. I have no concerns on the build it is straight forward enough a friend is going to come over and help me tune my engine for the first time he is a car nut so unfortunately cant help with the actually flying . In terms of control throws i would have to agree that it seem to be the number one cause of crashes with that in mind and from what other buiders of this model have said i am going to set the throws slighty less then it says in the manual as they are apparently still a bit frisky for a beginner and i am going to dial in plenty of expo on my tx  just to dumb down the centres a bit as well one other thing i was thinking about although havent asked any one if it is a good idea or not yet so it does mean its going to happen but how about setting the throws as per instructions and then instead of setting the dual rates to the aerobatic settings as suggested in the instruction set them to what i would term very docile rates ie less then the originalls that way if i find it to hard to control to lively flick the rates switch and it might well give me the initial control i will need. Any thoghts on that point guys???? P.S Would love a proper scale Spit but not just yet
  21. just incase you want to know Galaxy Models also sell spares for airising star and other seagull models i just brought some myself obviously other suppliers are availiable!
  22. Kelvin, Thanks for that tip tried the seagull site last night dont know whats wrong with it none of the pages will load tried everything but never mind as today my Boomerang arrived so i have my own instructions However a engine would probably help now!!!!
  23. Kelvin, Nice one my friend that was quick i was panicking a bit cause i thought it was a very good link and cause i was so tired when i looked at it i didnt book mark it!! will do now. Dont worry about the other thread we have this one now. No it hasn't come yet i hope it will be tommorow i'm ready to go except the actuall plane which is kinda important i think ha ha! One of the points in Wombats build i found interesting were the rates obviously the manual will have a suggestion but can i ask how you have yours set up? and also do you have any general "flying" tips you could share with me i think the more knowledge i can gather the more chance i might have of it not ending in tears Thanks Kelvin.
