Vecchio Austriaco
Going petrol on my current project I ask myself - is it necessary to use a fuel proofer cover? Anybody with experience? thanks VA
Alan Cantwell
no, although its a good idea to seal against the ingress of oil where the exhaust points, i dont fuel proof the paintwork, then again, i dont fuel proof the car either!! when cleaning the small amount of stain off at the end of flying, i use baby wipes, works a treat
Tony Richardson
Might not be necessary but it sure won't do any harm.
Vecchio Austriaco
Thanks guys. I will paint the firewall with the usual epoxy coating, but I will save covering the fuselage. VA
Ultymate
Been flying petrol for years and never done it totally unnecessary and just adds weight and costs money.
Allan Bowker
I would have thought that fuel proofing the firewall and areas where exhaust oil makes contact with wood is a good idea long term. Mainly because of the couple of occasions I have seen where an engine has departed from it's firewall because of rotten wood. My new petrol aircraft is getting proofed in the front, firewall and underside areas, hopefully my plane will last a long time
Alan Cantwell
i did say seal against the ingress of oil from the exhaust, but really, doesnt need it, but it will do no harm,
