using a petrol engine - fuel proofing needed?

I would have thought that fuel proofing the firewall and areas where exhaust oil makes contact with wood is a good idea long term.

Mainly because of the couple of occasions I have seen where an engine has departed from it's firewall because of rotten wood.

My new petrol aircraft is getting proofed in the front, firewall and underside areas, hopefully my plane will last a long time teeth 2
