I guess nobody understands Fernando's decision.

From aiming to win races/titles since his come-back, he switches to the 9th team of the constructors rankings.

It is believed that Alpine's Otmar and he weren't the best 'friends'. In addition, he wanted a multi-year deal but Alpine (Rossi) only wanted to give him a one-year deal.

Ocon's handling/obstruction during the Hungary GP seems to have been the 'drop too much'.

Anyhow, his decision seems to be a '$olid retirement plan'. "El Plan"???

Looking forward to the Stroll Sr vs. Alonso 'battles'... and good luck to Junior...

Cheers

Chris

Evening all!

There's a Bank Holiday weekend - in the UK at least - ahead of us,  and it's also the end of the F1 Summer Break.  P1 and P2 have already taken place at Spa,  so it's time for the customary reminder;

Don't forget your predictions!

P1 was disrupted by rain and saw Sainz setting fastest time ahead of Leclerc,  with Verstappen third and Russell fourth.

P2 also saw some rain, with Verstappen setting fastest time with Leclerc second again and Norris third.

Note that Verstappen and Leclerc are taking penalties for too many engine replacemtn parts and will start from near the back of the grid.  Norris, Bottas, Ocon and Schumacher are also taking engine penalties.

Better weather is anticipated for tomorrow and Sunday, with P3 at noon and qualifying at 3pm tomorrow (UK times.) Sunday's race is at 2pm.

I can't see how I can manage to step up the League rankings with Tony and Igor having their respective strong results each race...

See you all in Zandvoort...

You will both catch up if I have to rely on my 1 prediction.

Evening all!

Vandvoort this weekend, so first the customary reminder;

Don't forget your predictions!

Mercedes seem to have bounced back somewhat at Zandvoort,  and headed P1, with Russell setting the fastest time and Hamilton 0.240 seconds behind.  Sainz was third with Norris and Ricciardo next and Leclerc 6th.  Perez was 7th with Verstappen 19th having completed only 7 laps.

P2 saw the Ferraris on top, Leclerc ahead of Sainz, with Hamilton next followed by Norris, then Russell.  Verstappen was 8th, with Perez 12th.

P3 is at 11am (UK-time) tomorrow,  with qualifying at 2pm and the race at 2pm on Sunday.

Good luck everybody!

I just hope there was a bit of vandbagging today (with RB maybe?) ...

Chris - I've always reckoned my keyboard has a mind of its own! 😊

Oh well,  too late to edit it now. In the 'old days' I could have corrected it...

P3 starts in 10 mins...

As the channel 4 coverage is now over, it's time to see how we all fared today in the race at Zandvoort;

Top place with 153 points goes to Chris.

Second on 141 points is GrumpyGnome.

Third is Simon with 132 points.

Well done to today's three!

Now,  has that affected the overall table?  Let's take a look!

os League

14 14 1 teewrex John Tee 1555
15 15 0 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 1470

No changes tin the top three,  or even in the top six today.

But GrumpyGnome's second today gives him enough points to move up to 7th, which displaces Glenn to 8th.

Further down the table Zoonie moves ahead of John T, they are now 13th and 14th respectively.

All other places remain unchanged.

So we move on to Monza for the Italian GP next weekend,  whilst probably wondering how different today's result might have been without the two safety-cars...

well done to Chris, Grumpy and Simon. I felt confident after watching the race but had one of my worst races . down one more place and I will be bottom as is my usual place. seven races to go to climb back up. Bring on Italy.

John

In stark contrast, while I was watching it, I was convinced I'd be scoring badly!

I know the track is supposed to limit overtaking (seems like 90% of tracks do!) but I like it.  Also like the light entertainment provided by Ferrari and Alpha Tauri....... I have absolutely no idea what Ferrari can do to make things better - seemingly, neither do they! At least CL finally got back on the podium.

MV is certainly peerless this year, a perfect match of man and machinery,  much as it pains me to say.

Thank you, gents.

Congrats to GrumpyG and Simon as well.

Same as Grumpy, when calculating my points I was convinced that it would be a genuine 'mid-field' result with just around 150 pts.

Big surprise when discovering that our League colleagues didn't handle it better...

I'll just try to have a bis repetita in Italy then (sorry Igor)...  😉

Evening all,

Monza this weekend - 'home ground' for Ferrari, and the world’s third-oldest permanent racetrack, after Brooklands and Indianapolis.  Monza celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.

But first,  the customary reminder;

Don't forget your predictions!

P1 went very much Ferrari's way, Leclerc setting fastest time with Sainz just 0.077 seconds slower.  The Mercedes duo were next, Russell faster than Hamilton, followed by Verstappen and then the two Alpines.

P2 saw Sainz setting fastest time, with Leclerc third and Verstappen separating the two Ferraris.  Norris was 4th ahead of Russell, then Perez and Hamilton.

Bear in mind that there are grid penalties, mostly for engine/gearbox replacements, for several drivers this weekend.  Verstappen takes a 5-place penlty, Perez a 10-place penalty, and Bottas a 15-place penalty - whilst Hamilton, Sainz and Tsunoda will all start from the back of the grid.

P3 is at noon, UK-time tomorrow, followed by qualifying at 3pm.  Sunday's race is at 2pm.

Good luck, everyone!

Evening all,

With the channel 4 coverage long since finished,  time to reveal today's results;

5 9 3 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 180
6 15 0 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 168

13 11 1 PSS Power Flyer 128
14 12 1 Torque of the devil Stu 125
15 14 0 teewrex John Tee 116

On a high-scoring day (lots of points for place-gains from out-of-position drivers on the grid) first place today goes to Tony.

Tony scored 203 points,  and just 2 points behind on 201, is pete B whjo takes second place today.

Third place today, and 12 points adrift, is John S with 189 points.

Well done to today's top three!

The rest of us - even me - scored well over 100 today.

So, let's look at the overall table now;

Pos League
Rank
Team Manager Pts
1 1 0 Igoronic racing iqon 2279
2 2 0 Essex Racing Tony Clark 2268
3 3 0 GASTON Formula Chris McG 2215
4 4 0 Pitts Specials john stones 2052
5 5 1 Revers Racing Pete B 2023
6 6 1 DMFC Racing Team Simon Webb 1999
7 7 0 LetsGoTotoLetsGo GrumpyGnome 1959
8 8 0 Oyster f1 Glenn Philbrick 1925
9 9 3 Team Charles Picd Charles Pic 1849
10 10 1 Norfolk Flyers Kevin Fairgrieve 1846
11 11 1 PSS Power Flyer 1817
12 12 1 Torque of the devil Stu 1795
13 13 0 Hans Brake Zoonie 1713
14 14 0 teewrex John Tee 1671
15 15 0 The JP Specials johnpflyrc 1638

No place changes at the top, so Iqon holds on to top place,  though Tony narrows the gap a bit in second,  and Chris remains third.

Pete's result today moves him up one place to 5th, at the expense of Simon who drops to 6th.

And Charles leaps 3 places up the table to 9th, displaing Kev, Ade, and Stu a place each to 10th, 11th, and 12th.

All other places remain unchanged.

Next up is Singapore in 3 weeks time.
