Greg Minden
Well - i don't have a wing yet - so no. I'm hoping that there is enough room in the landing gear bay so i can install a screw and nut plate arrangement that i can access through the wheel well. That is what i did on my big Tigercat and it worked out quite well.
Greg Minden
Working on the top battery hatch , I discovered the fit was terrible and so I finally decided to just scrap it and make a new one. While that is in workup, I was able (thanks to Craig for his help) to get the dreaded F-16 top aft former fitted. Work continues slowly. Sorry for the double pic Edited By Greg Minden on 05/04/2018 00:31:
Greg Minden
it's beginning to look like a Vulcan
Greg Minden
some updates. First wing glued on. Detachable panel secured with 10/24 bolt and T nut accessed through the wheel well. 3D printed crewmembers. Gyro mounted under the removable canopy. Chris Walby
Hi, I could be wrong and I am sure more knowledgeable members will chip in, but I thought giros worked best located at the C of G as that's the position the aircraft rotates around...Just a thought to save you time later on if it needs to be relocated. Hope this helps and last but not no way least great look builds there. PS Darn...just read my post (else where) and I stand corrected , anywhere will do Edited By Chris Walby on 10/05/2018 06:35:
KiwiKid
Really been enjoying your build Greg. I have just finished a slap together semi scale powered sloper as a bit of a practice for building a bigger Vulcan when I can fit it in the build queue. You have probably seen this presentation, but it has some really nice pics included: **LINK**
Greg Minden
Thanks for your observation Chris. For most gyros it would be correct to place it on or near the CG but i chose this one because it will work away from the CG. Critical that it be located on the centerline though. Just plan on using the rudder function - and nws.
Greg Minden
KiwiKid - thanks. I didn't know anyone was watching. Thanks too for the link. Great pictures. I had a chance to sit in the left seat of the Vulcan back in the 70s. I was struck by how small the cockpit was for the pilots. G.
Scott Edwards 2
Watching very closely Greg! I've built one for PSS. I would have loved to have built a full EDF one, but expense and lack of a decent runway killed that. Very interesed in watching yours grow 👍
Greg Minden
A little progress made: A couple servos installed. Tailpipes painted and tried out the color on some hatches. Canopy painted - crew installed too.
Greg Minden
Leading edges and wingtips added. I decided to do a wingspan measurement and had a big surprise. This "78 inch" wingspan aircraft actually measures 83 inches. Wow - free inches! It was built right on the plans too. Nobody tell TN or he will want to charge more for it Ha Ha. Greg Minden
so the inlet and spinal work proved a bit challenging. Worked out ok though. Now for some serious glassing
Scott Edwards 2
You're definitely on the home straight now ! I will measure mine tomorrow and see if it's grown 😃 It's not an easy build is it !
Greg Minden
Scott - this is the hardest build i have ever done - especially with the warped ply pieces and all. Craig Cox is also building one and his also measured out at 83". It will be interesting to see how yours is. Greg
KiwiKid
Very nice work Greg - really starting to look Vulcanish now. I have been enjoying a very detailed account of the development of the Vulcan in this book by Tony Blackman. So much (like powered control surfaces etc) was new to them at the time and seeing how they overcame problems is very engaging. For example, the cranked wing l/e was introduced to combat buffeting at high mach numbers which threatened to scupper the whole programme. Greg Minden
This is the spackling , filling and sanding stages before glassing. Got my graphics from Callie. Yay!

KiwiKid
Woot woot! Awesome job Greg. Now comes the fun part - putting on the decals. I have been having endless fun with my parky pusher Vulcan.
Craig Carr
Looks great Greg... very well done. Mines waiting for it’s white coat (just done the tail as a tester)... I’m probably going to have to wait till the spring to get back into my spray booth (aka the back garden ) Wish I had the same Nevada climate that you have
Callsign Tarnish
Hi Greg, is the build as per the plan? I only ask as the nose profile looks too long and slender for scale.
Craig Carr
Mine is to plan and I’m sure Greg said he’s followed the plan exactly...on my photo I think the image is squashed/distorted Here’s another taken after planking the nose
Greg Minden
Yup. Built right on the plan. The nose looks different in every picture i guess due to camera effects. LV weather today was low 38 , high 60.
Greg Minden
Just adding a couple new pics to keep things alive - and a taxi test! **LINK**
