cymaz
Hope I’m not hijacking the thread. Three of us have been hard at work building a Giant Mannock Myself and the other builders have been busy. Work has continued on the wings and tail surfaces. The engine and it’s reduction gear has been built and tested. HERE
Chris Freeman 3
I had a Giant for many years until I sold it, had a quadra 32cc that gave it a very realistic performance. Bodo was a true master at model design as his designs are always good flying aircraft and easy to build.
cymaz
Brian ( builder) has redrawn the front to accommodate the reduction drive. The cowl sides will be working doors to get to the engine, cooling and ducting will be designed. Needing to spend some money for the Giant Mannock build now. I’ve opted for twin Rxs , batteries and switches. Each Rx will control one half of the plane. It may seem like overkill to some, but the effort Brian is going to I’m not going to skimp on my part. He also found a 1/3 scale Vickers and Foster mount he had kept in a draw or years....great! Still need to get wheels, rigging wire and fixings, cockpit panel, etc. A work colleague said he would 3D print up a pilot bust. Does the OP ( Paul )mind if I use this thread to log the build ? stu knowles
just a suggestion, change your batteries for the larger 'C' size. Unless you have been extremely creative, the all up weight will not be an issue so the extra weight is insignificant. On a model with a high servo count and long leads don't believe that AA size cells have enough spare capacity. My Futaba servo tester using just a 1 amp load condemned all of my AA size Eneloop batteries. I thought that it was a duff tester to begin with but now believe that batteries of this type while having a high capacity do not have the ability to liberate power quickly enough under high demand. Paul james 8
Sorry I haven't responded, not got round to sorting mine yet, got so many models now I'm not sure which to get in the air first!! Will be interesting to see what you put on yours!!
cymaz
First of the fuselage formers are being set. The front one that is an odd shape to use as one of the bearers for the reduction drive
cymaz
Work continues on the engine bay. Brian is a legend in his building prowess. As well as the engine being bolted to the main firewall, two bearers come through from the rest of the front formers and sit on cross rails to take the strain off the engine bolts.... cymaz
Front formers near completion ( I’ve no idea why it’s suddenly gone sideways )
cymaz
Update.... 1/3 scale pilot from Jim Reeves has been ordered. Also Brian has started on the switch hatch, servo mounting and tail.

Don't know how to revolve them either.
Pete Collins
Going back to the original post. If you find that you're still lacking aileron response, one thing worth trying is to add lots of differential. I know it's usually used on high aspect ratio gliders but It sometimes helps on bipes and High wing scale types.
cymaz
Build moves on. Mick- the pilot approves of his cockpit, although , I haven’t the heart to tell him he will soon lose his legs below the knees

Paul james 8
Never did get round to converting my electric one to IC, which is handy as I've just found an excellent local field that drains well that I can fly electric models from. Will post a couple of photos once I dig it out of the shed and sort some batteries for it.👍🙁
Geoff S
This is very impressive and will be great in the air. That fin shape is very familiar - there's a (much) smaller version staring me in the face as I type. Geoff
Cliff 1959
Hi Geoff, guess what I've just acquired? It's three quarters finished so a bit to do but you mentioned your keeping yours electric after all. I was wondering what your setup is? Any details would be helpful Edited By Cliff 1959 on 21/01/2020 10:02:
cymaz
Update...tail has now been covered! That’s Brian, Master Builder. I just get to fly it Edited By cymaz on 27/01/2020 22:18:

Cliff 1959
That's looking really impressive, makes my standard Mannock look a bit of a tiddler, can't wait to see the finished model, are you fitting ailerons on both wings?
cymaz
Cheers Cliff, yes I believe the builder is.
