David Pentland 1
Hi Geoff, I was wondering which airbrush you were using? I need to upgrade from my touch up gun.
Geoff Gardiner
Hi David. This is what I use: I got it from Amazon about 4 or 5 years ago. Cost about £15 and works fine, in my opinion.
David Pentland 1
Thanks for that Geoff, You make it look easy, something I've never found painting to be.

Geoff Gardiner
Made use of a "lull" in the weather and did a bit more painting - nearly there! More later...

Mike Pertwee
Hi, I bought one of these models at Wings & Wheels last weekend. An impulse purchase! No engine and no plans. I would really appreciate information on C of G position and suggested control throws from anyone who has built and/or flies one of these Harvards. This thread shows wonderful build photos way above my standard. I hope the one I have bought was as carefully built! Regards Mike
Denis Watkins
Mike, the C of G is shown in the 1st photo, of page 1 of this thread
Mike Pertwee
Well spotted, Denis! Thank you. Most helpful. Mike
Mike Pertwee
Denis, Will search other photos on thread showing any of the plan for any control throw info. I do fly a smaller Flair Harvard so can probably estimate reasonable throws from that model. Mike
Geoff Gardiner
Hi Mike. Thanks for the comments. The movements Tony suggests are as follows: Elevator - 12mm Aileron - 12mm Rudder - 25mm CofG 100mm from L.E. at wing outer root
Geoff Gardiner
Nearly done with the painting. Now the cowl is mounted I can paint the green camo. More later...

Mike Pertwee
Thanks for info, Geoff. Sorting out the servos and engine fitting now, but great to have the information I will need a bit later. Great photos again. She looks far too good to risk flying her! Regards Mike
Outrunner
Posted by Tom Sharp 2 on 03/07/2019 20:19:14: I just love that rotary Rotary?!! In a Harvard! Maybe a radial. Phil.
Geoff Gardiner
Got a little bit sidetracked with building myself a laser/CNC cutter. Back on the Harvard now. Installed the elevator and rudder servos. Made some control horns using the new CNC cutter. More later...
Geoff Gardiner
Started fitting out the cockpit: More later...
Douglas Groutage
Geoff, please don't stop. I've bought the cnc kit just a few weeks ago, your build log and build is stupendous: its really helping this newbie out. Have you maidened it? If you were to do it again, what would you do different? Do you want to sell/give away your 3D parts? Love the radial! Thanks for creating this log. Broken Prop
Amazing work Geoff. Can't wait to see it fly! Pete
Geoff Gardiner
Hi Doug. Thanks for your kind words. I also follow others builds and am always learning. Not quite ready for the maiden yet. I'm happy with the build so far - will see how/if it flies! Are you going to do a build log of yours? I could probably sell you some of the parts - which bits are you after? Geoff... Douglas Groutage
I have a thread started on RCGROUPS Sorry... At the moment I am in a bit of a quandry. I really want to make a full length canopy hatch, from F2 to F5. A thin ply platform with the Top of F3 removed and added to the platform along with the longerons between F3 and F2. The platform would sit on the longerons between F3 and F5 (and I would extend this longeron to F2). The canopy would be attached to this platform. Magnets on the back to hold in position, two small dowels for the front at F2. Pilots, scale details to be added to the platform etc...yes this would add weight...I really just want improved battery access and cleaner hatch. So my concern - would cutting the top of F3 reduce any torsional or torque strength from the fuselage, or is F3 just for maintaining the shape? What do you think? I was keenly interested in the engine stl files, I can have them printed here - our local libraries have 3d printers. I might have to do one piece a night for a few nights but that's ok. Or I can buy pre-printed. I do have the vacuum piece from Tony, but your's is pretty sweet. Doug

Geoff Gardiner
Sorted out the Aileron and flap linkages and fitted the retracts: The lighting changed between shots hence the yellow looks different colours. More later...
Nik Harrison
Geoff, Very impressed with the build, well done. I'm most intrigued by your excellent painted roundels. Would you care to explain the process involved? Nik
