David Ovenden
Danny the wing lettering was good too. I will get some better pics when the model is asembled properly outside. I may not have got the placement of lettering completely correct, but it gives the model a much more authentic look.
Danny Fenton
Well as you all know my Chippy bit the dust, and as I liked it so much I bought another. Unfortunately my chums at Webbies only had the Spinach and Custard variety. I decided to follow Ady's route and do a respray. It has been very interesting as I tried some things that should not have worked but did work very well. I used Klass Kote straight over the film, with no scotch-brighting, or prep at all. I still have a few things to do, but is airworthy as is, if I taped the canopy on..... The story so far can be found on my YouTube channel, Spinach and Custard Cheers Danny

Silver Chipmunks from RAF Manston used to fly over my house all the time when I was a lad. Never saw a camouflaged one though! Danny Fenton
A flap didnt deploy and i didnt have enough aileron to hold it, the servo slow meant it had crashed before i got the flap back up. Stuff happens.... i was able to salvage the tailplane, though it needed a repair to the skins Cheers Danny
Ron Gray
Gosh, so sorry to see that Danny. I have slow for flap down but no slow on flap up as I was nearly caught out with a similar event some time back. I did try with flaps on a slider or rotary control but didn't like that way of operating them.

I always have my flaps on a slider, but don't use servo slow. That way you can control the speed of deployment with your finger - as fast or slow as you want or need. Works for me, but probably won't suit everyone.
GrumpyGnome
I have slow flaps down, and faster up (but not full speed). As the current puppy sitting duties limit flying time, I may try putting flaps on a slider - probably my Valiant... although the sliders on my Radiomaster are probably pretty poor quality!
Danny Fenton
With competition flying the flight must be smooth, and when the flaps operate you need to be able to keep on top of any change in attitude with no noticeable pitch change and the judges should see nothing. Altering trim to compensate helps, but i prefer the flaps to operate slowly. Cheers Danny
Danny Fenton
Getting quite close now, "Spinach and Custard" just needs a pilot figure and some lettering 🙂 Still pleased to say, none of the silver has even hinted at lifting! Danny Fenton
so I cut some letters, and painted a pilot, didn't use oils this time used acrylics in the airbrush, getting better in three more lifetimes I might get them right....... sigh Airbrushing does make the hair look better at least Cheers Danny

Eric Robson
I would be happy if you could airbrush me some hair like that Danny, mine faded away a long time ago. Looking good, I always preferred the Chipmunk in silver

Danny Fenton
1 hour ago, Martyn K said: Where did the pilot come from Danny? Thanks chaps. The pilot figure was a 3d file I purchased for 39 Euros some time ago. The file is full figure, but I only use the bit I want. The site is CGTRADER and the figure is by Max Grueter. I have scaled him to what ever I need, and he comes with a selection of heads. He is listed as a 40's glider pilot, but if you sit him more upright he adopts the more natural forward stoop which I like in my models. Eric Strefford printed the head in flesh coloured resin, for the bodies I usually bully a friend (Chris B or Eric S) to print on a regular spool fed printer. Danny Fenton
Okay so apart from checking the c of g and weighing WP971 we are good to go fly 🙂 Well actually not quite, this is a 16 x12 prop as the new 15 x 12 hasn't arrived yet, I could just be gentle with the throttle, but as the ESC is quite expensive I will hold fire, ordered from Wheelspin so shouldn't take long. Danny Fenton
Meant to show the exhaust, looks a bit too clean. I had an idea to make it look more weathered by sprinkling talc over the wet paint and blow away the excess, but in the current heat the paint was dry almost immediately. Maybe an experiment for another day. Very impressed with Tamiya old iron, great colour. Cheers Danny
Danny Fenton
manage to drag Chris B away from his telly and down to the flying patch for a Chippy maiden. Thanks Chris. It flew really well and I am amazed that more haven't bought these, maybe it is the awful choice of colour? The Canadian Air Force is fine, but very easy to have the same as the next guy. a red white and grey version or a silver one would have given the buyer the ability to personalise the aircraft as they like. Anyway thx Chris for the pics awaiting clearance rotating low pass from the right Finals Made a short video to celebrate the event, flying is a bit dull and landing not my best, but in fairness it was a maiden in blustery wind 😉 Cheers Danny
Paul De Tourtoulon
Nice but shouldn't he be in the back seat flying solo ?.
