Thanks Gordon, most of the credit goes to Richard's style of flying which meant he put the model in the best position for my shots, never into the Sun and he could go very slow and make it look easy. We had practiced quite a bit with his other kits.

Hmm . I like that ! I remember seeing the Duxford "Frankie" close up , outside the hanger just before covid. I believe it was up for sale as they were doing a photo shoot . Like yours , it was shining like a new pin . Stunning . 

Seems like we've got a few more P51s nearing completion . Not sure what happened to the other 40 ?

I'm hoping we will see a few more pictures soon .

Note we test flew Glynns one with a 13x7 dynam three blade prop . Not so much torque to deal with on the test flight and a bit more forgiving and cheaper if you "peck " the grass !

Never understood why there are so few Mustangs models finished in RAF markings.  They were the original customer for the aircraft and a RR pilot was the one who thought that putting a Merlin into a Mustang would transform its high altitude performance.  The first long range fighter escort for USAAF B17s was provided by RAF Mustangs (P51B i.e. with the Merlin) long before any USAAF fighter squadrons had either the combat experience or even combat information to form up their own squadrons.

 

Many Americans have no idea of the extent they owe the Mustang's existence and tremendous performance to the British.  Now, if only I could get round to finishing my Mustang (unfortunately it's a Top Flite one) in a 303 Sqn scheme all would be well!  Ah well, c'est la vie!

So the yellow is Tamyia yellow. 

I wish I could be flying but every weekend will be child care this summer so not much chance of taking her out for a month or 2. So I will be trying to finish her off this week in case I get a chance to fly.  

 

Then start the foamboard mossie....

All,

Managed to escape childcare and got to maiden, Queen Jean.  

 

I got 2 flights.  She flew on rails one click of down and one click of left was all that was needed rates felt good.... 

 

Only one issue she was really lacking in power. I had to use 75%+ power and still would not have been Been able to loop.  A climb to altitude was was tricky.    

3 min flight had 70% battery left and 4min had 65% left so its not using full power I think? Any ideas

Congratulations on the maiden! If you’re using the recommended Predator motor and FMS prop the I can only think that your batteries are getting a bit tired or your ESC needs re-calibrating to your throttle travel (see the instructions for the ESC on how to do this.)

Sounds like Trevor may be on the right track, that motor and batteries are the same I use in it and it sure is more than enough power. I can fly at 3/4 throttle nicely, rarely do I need full throttle. I usually set my timer for 6 mins and have 30% to 40%

Battery left.

That would have been one of my preferred colour schemes too.

I think the lads are correct . I reckon your battery is fine and assuming the same prop as Paul it has to be that the ESC is not letting you have full power .

 Remove the prop , turn on the TX with throttle at the top , connect flight pack and motor will beep twice . Swipe the throttle down to zero and it will know what the range is . 

Got that right did I boys ?

Regarding knees . They look like mine and I used to model for Pretty Polly ....

they are just jealous .😉

Congratulations Jonathan, great to see you first flight achieved safely. Your model looks terrific! 

I finally got my P51 to the flying field today in good conditions. My intention was to do some high speed taxy runs as our strip is narrow, with rough mowed grass and a longer grass border. I found it very difficult to  keep the direction straight down the centre of the strip, having some big swings in yaw running into the longer grass. I have a fixed tail wheel and I played around with the rudder travel and expo to reduce the sensitivity. I held in full up elevator to keep the tail wheel firmly  on the ground. I got better at it but still not confident to accelerate under full power to take of speed. 
Has anyone had this sort of controllability issue and how was it managed?

I would be grateful for any advice you can give.

As with most warbirds the last thing you want is a big handful of throttle, dudicial gradual use of the throttle whilst gently applied rudder and she will fly off on her own.

Double check the wheels are tracking  straight.

That motor and 4 bladed prop produce quite a bit of torque.
