Geoff S
Posted by Peter Miller on 20/07/2020 13:49:07: I just checked what Watts my set up was producing. 376 watts which is just about perfect for the weight of model. The moral of this is "Never trust someone elses figures" That's a lot more likely than 25 watts If I can shake myself out of my Covid depression this is something that appeals to me - both scale and not potentially a long build. Saves my converting from glow to electric, too - what's not to like? Geoff
Tim C
Peter, That pilot looks very much like a 3d printed version of you.
Peter Miller
Tim: In fact the pilot was one that was being made and sold on Ebay. They were superbly detailed and all different. They were not cheap,£15 to £18 each and boght several. The painting was superb ad the details such as separate mikes and head phones.Every tooth on the zips. I was very sorry when the chap stopped making them. Geoff. You will love this one. nothing hard to build and one or two new techniques

kc
The plan is a free plan in the October 2020 RCME. Subscribers have the issue now so probably in the newsagents next week. Much cheaper to buy the RCME than to buy the plan alone later!
Gary Clark 1
Just seen the plan in the magazine and I'm impressed Peter. Looks like another classic PM design-great to build and great to fly! Well done sir. It has went straight into my "to build" list Gary

Geoff S
Just been looking at the plan. I wonder if Sarik (or SLEC) are going to do a CNC set of parts and an additional wood pack. I think I'd 'invest' if they did That'll be two Peter Miller designs to build over winter. Both scale(ish). At least scale enough for me. William Walker
I've looked on Sariks web site this evening and they are showing the model and listing product codes for the wood sets etc. So, hopefully they will be doing a kit soon!! Peter Miller
Hi folks Thanks for the interest. I can say that it as as scale as the factory 3 views allow and Rans have ut it up on their website and the current owner of my version said that it is very accurate. I can also say that it flies beautifully although I would suggest the first flight should be made on a calmer day. It is light and has a lot of wing area. Geoff S
I've been doing some minor research looking for different scale schemes for the Chaos and ended up at this Wikipedia site. Apparently Rans don't only manufacture aeroplane kits but sarted out with land yachts and, later a whole variety of both upright and recumbent pedal cycles. Seems to be a very innovative and vibrant company and I'll definitely be building one during the forthcoming winter lockdown (assuming it happens). Anyway there'll be a weather lockdown for me A very good find, Peter. Geoff
Peter Miller
I suggest searching Google Rans S-9 Chaos. Go to images and you will get hundreds of different pictures of them with all the variations mentioned in the article. That is where I went. Mine belongs to Gerry Lategan in New Zealand. Thanks to him for the colour scheme on top of the wing
Andy Blake 1
i Peter, I've just read through your Build Thread of your Rans Chaos. Please can you tell me what motor/ESC/Battery/Prop combination you used. Also which Servos you chose. I plan to build this (It will be my very first buld) from scratch it maybe use the Sarik kit & complete over the winter. Can you also recommend initial surface travel settings for maiden flight & suggested flight time? Cheers in advance. AndyB
Geoff S
It's in the magazine article and I suspect also on 4max's web site PO-3541-1070 motor APC 11 x 5.5 prop On 3s LiPo with a 40 amp esc Geoff
Trevor Crook
There's a full list of the 4-Max bits in their ad opposite the last page of the build article (p.31).
bees
Hi, A question for Peter if i may. You say that the Rans Chaos will do wild aerobatics on high rates, don't want a 3D model but will the Chaos do knife edge, stall turns and maybe prop hang. Thank you for your advise. Best regards Glen
Peter Miller
I haven't tried knife edge or prop hanging but it might need a little more power to prop hang. it Stall turns should be a piece of cake.

bees
Got my balsa so on with the build , might be asking a few more questions later down the line. Thank you. Edited By bees on 03/10/2020 22:29:
Peter Miller
Have fun. It is pretty straight forward but I will answer any questions if I can One club member is building one at 120% size and he has only had to ask the odd question and he didn't even have the instructions. bees
Hi, Just cutting the ribs at the moment but noticed that the spars are 1/4 x 1/4 balsa, I presume this is hard balsa or is it spruce. Thank you best regards Glen
