Acrowot xl

Hi Glenn,

It will be a great combination. I built one during lock-down, but installed a 3W 28i petrol. I considered using my Laser 180 - the installation of the Laser would have been easier.

I would plan the engine installation to get the prop driver at the specified distance from firewall and worry about the CofG later. It won't be far off - install the batteries accordingly.

I installed 2 low profile Savox servos in the tail to drive the elevators. The CofG came out just right for my style of flying without the need for any lead. It's probably a little behind the recommended position.

The manual doesnt state the distance from firewall. where did you find the measurement?

Cheers

Glenn

The Acro Wot XL manual does state the distance as Richard stated 175mm.

STEP 55
Most petrol engines will require the use of stand-offs to position the engine
correctly. The distance from the front of the engine former to the rear of the
spinner should be around 175mm. With the correct length stand-offs to hand
use one of them, complete with threaded insert, to draw the captive nut fully
forward into place in the former, making sure that a large washer is fitted under
the end of the stand-off. Repeat for the three remaining captive nuts.

Here is the engine cowl cut out. I laminated a square block of plywood to act as a stand-off for the engine mount . That’s much stronger than using aluminium posts. 7a6ccdd4-1752-4ba0-9636-183cc1e95ffb.jpeg

Inverted would not work as tank too low. You would also expose a lot of engine outside the cowl and make a vulnerable “ground rake” with any nose over. I have an inverted Laser 200v in a WWXL but the cylinders are shorter being a twin (2x100). To fit the 200 I. I had to split the cowl in half
