Brian Dorricott 1
I have a Volantex glider 1600mm foamy and want to attach the decals , past experience with Bixlers and Phoenix 2.4 tells me they won't stay long . The decals adhere well enough on the plastic body but soon start to peel off the foam wings and tail feathers . Anything I can do to seal them ? I used some clear 2in tape last time but even that starts to peel off eventually . So anyone any tried and tested methods for decals on foam ? Preparing the surface maybe ? Otherwise a white plain glider against a summer sky is hard work. Edited By Brian Dorricott 1 on 20/01/2021 12:02:
Frank Skilbeck
If all you are looking to do is add some colour, then acrylic paints can be used on foam. Maybe paint the whole wing and then add the decals might also work better. BTW I have couple of MPX foamies that are 5+ years old and the decals are still well attached. simon barr
There may be some sort of releasing agent on the foam so it would be worth while washing the parts in warm soapy water first. Make sure that the surfaces are completely dry before applying the decals.
EvilC57
I’ve found decals to stick OK to EPP foam by spreading some Uhu Por over the surface of the foam first, then letting it dry before applying the decals. Bill_B
Some manufacturers decals can be adhered to the foam with very low heat using a covering iron fitted with a cotton sole cover.
