EarlyBird Posted May 17, 2021 Share Posted May 17, 2021 Up with the lark this morning and at the field by 09:00. A dull overcast day but no wind perfect for test flying my MPX EasyStar with a FrSky G-RX8 to give me telemetry. Not expecting to do a lot but adjust the balance and trims. First launch the vario started it's high pitch tone, lift ? nothing to do with me the model did it on it's own. Second launch moved the CoG back which was not a good idea as it easily stalled when it found some rising air. Third launch with the CoG as in the first flight and the sun came out the vario was going crazy and three times I climbed to over 200 m. After an hour I had had enough and landed. Amazing two hours of flying made my day/week/year. When I was a school boy I wanted to fly gliders now I can and it's no longer a dream. Nick Cripps Posted June 7, 2021 Share Posted June 7, 2021 Had a great day out on Sunday, flying waterplanes at Billing Lake, just outside Northampton. This lake is shared by the LMA and BWA and meetings normally take place on the 1st Sunday of the month. Here's a few pictures: Tony's Junior 60, ably flown by grandson, Lewis. My Seamaster, back from the dead and a subject of the Dark Nights Fix-up thread. Flown by John so I could take the pictures. Lewis's Cosee on a fast'n'low pass. Howard's Wot 4 taxying back to the harbour. Another of Lewis's models, a Bixler on floats. Guy's ill-fated Carbon Cub, sadly damaged on take-off a few minutes later. John's Acrowot - these always go well on floats. Another Wot 4, flown by another Howard! Waterplane newcomer, Paul, flew this lovely DB Aquasport, built from a kit during lockdown. I did the test flight and this shot was taken after Paul's first flight with the model. You may be able to spot a section of loose covering on the underside of the tailplane which caused a few trim problems during the flight but he got it down safely! Guy's DH Beaver. I can confirm it does thermal, almost too easily.? Built from the kit, set up as detailed in the instructions, launched with the aid of a dolly and it flew without any trimming needed. Amazing. So I flew a few converted foam chuck gliders. This one is called a NewFlidl Not my own design but a design shared with me by my German YouTube friend Martin. And why is it called NewFlidl well Martin informes me that it is a play on words from. The conversion of Mr. Schweisgut was named NurFLIDL, which is a play on words from Nurflügel and LIDL . New and Flidl. Flidl is F for wings and Lidl. All Lidl gliders are called Flidl. I hope that is clear. The model can be hand launched by holding the wing and tossing it into the air after setting the appropriate power settings. Alternatively you can also place the model on the ground and perform a vertical take off. The model is also a fast flyer. I also managed to fly my Autogyro also converted from a Lidl glider.
