IMO why the FW 190 works so well, it has none of the above traits I agree with all of the above . Fitting retracts definitely puts you on edge , which is illogical if you have been successfully landing on the belly (which when you think about it has to be more precise ) The 190 is really like landing an acrowot as it comes in with very a positive approach at a nice pace , but naturally not too slow. I do think that the 190 is one to stick with for practicing better landing technique. The retracts will absorb a lot of punishment too . The Tempest is harder to land as it will fly ridiculously slowly . That is fine if you are on your fifth Tempest landing of the day , but if you have flown something else , the Tempest seems to keep trying to fly again ! Consequently you have to set your glide path , then try to avoid pulling the nose up as it wont mush , it will actually either just hang there or even start climbing again . So much lift in that wing . Once you get use to it , it will land at a walk . So , to repeat , practice with the 190 again and again . If your runway is rough, hack out the wheel wells and put some bigger diameter wheels on .
Andy Gates
Having gone through a few sets or retracts in one way or another, I have found that if I fly the plane to a wheeler type landing rather than trying the 3 pointer - the retracts definitely last longer and don't pull out so often.

Try using a little throttle all the way to the ground and only cut when the wheels gently kiss the ground it will settle itself onto the tail wheel. Nigel Dell
Well after buying the 110 when in the last incarnation then due to various health issues, hip replacement and renal vasculitis I have not able to do a whole lot 😳☹️ I have tried building things but got to the finishing stage and lost interest, even when restoring a model for the i200 laser got so far and then the rush to finish was gone, so went to redraw the plans I started about 30 years ago of the Miles M13 Hobby Hawk which had been waiting all this time for the i200 to come along but that is quite a big undertaking for me at this moment so what better to do than join the Warbird Replicas winter build, I had thought of doing the 109 which I have but have mislaid the nose moulding then I saw this so 110 it is! Have everything from before, motors & speed controllers, servos, retracts, I thought I had U/C legs but can’t seem to find them! Sound system, pilots so basically everything for it, so I am going to join you all this winter and I hope to get my proper mojo back. All being well I can get the 109 done as well as I want to do Franz Steiger’s example. As soon as the dates for BOB at Buckminster are published then I will make sure I book the dates off from work to give myself something to work towards. I think I need this.

Also hold fire with this as Richard and I have been busy with a new idea relating to the retracts. So far testing is going well.

I built the FW190 last winter and found the process of building whilst following other people’s builds really enjoyable! I think it genuinely helped me stay focused, and I learned a lot from other people’s builds whilst getting lots of motivation. Flying in a group with some of those other models at Buckminster recently was the icing on the cake! Good luck with your project - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Ron Gray
All this talk of building and lack of motivation gets me thinking about my build videos (which have been on hold due to flying and now me re-arranging my workshop which includes heating!!!). Now here's a thought, is there an appetite for a 'live' build-a-long, whereby I will be building a WR model and you will be able to see me doing that live and you would all be able to participate in that build through chat? Nigel Dell
I had also at the time started drawing up the ordinance for the 110 and drop tank for the 109 as I intended for them to be able to drop things! The plugs were started but put away, I will get them out and finish them off probably going to be epoxy glass rather than abs. also making moulds from the two kinds of spinners I have here just in case they are no longer available, the 109 spinner I have has three separate blades that bolt on so will take a mould from those as well not sure about the 3 blade props for the 110 as yet but must be doable just never done it although I have made fans for edf so not that much of a stretch. "See me doing that live" and with all due respect I don't think I could keep up with the build speed especially if Eric gets on board it would be finished in a week! I am back on the Tempest build and only a couple of minor comments regarding the VLOG for that. The build of the fuselage and wing simultaneously makes it quite time consuming going backward and forwards trying to find the VLOG that covers a part of the build I am currently stuck on! Bits of the build that are missing. E.G. with the fuselage one minute you were pinning the rear deck and the next its all finished back to the tail feathers section (I'll raise my Q on that thread). Perhaps a Q and A with Ron in the shed would be a bit of fun, but might be tricky it does not head off at a tangent or rabbit hole discussion.

Yes, I did miss out the actual pinning of the turtle deck onto the fuselage sides and the subsequent carving, maybe I need to ensure that steps like that aren't missed out in future builds! RICHARD WILLS
Ron , can you do it like Jack Hargreaves or better still Bob Flemming . https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=bob+fleming+youtube&mid=CEB9DE58BAA3DC331F38CEB9DE58BAA3DC331F38&FORM=VIRE
Ron Gray
Ah, Bob (cough) Fleming now there’s a presenter to aspire to. Seemingly he freely and frequently gave away gold sovereigns.
Eric Robson
Not another Spitfire! Started this at the back end of September, no blow by blow description as it has been well documented elsewhere. My other Warbirds Replicas Spitfire is IC, and a Mk9, this one will be decorated as an early one but I won't be shortening the nose, the wheels and exhausts are 3D printed by Paul Johnson, should have asked him to print a Merlin engine as the whole top will come off to replace the battery. I hope to have it finished before the Bf110 kit arrives. I have another Tempest to build so busy times ahead.
