Warbirds Replicas Winter build thread.

Nice work Ron and thanks for documenting that detail.

Graham , if you are wondering how to stick Ron's little assembly onto the plastic , there are a few options .

1) rough the plastic up in the contact area then simply epoxy wood as Ron did .

2) contact glue a pad of postcard onto the cowl , which can then assumed to be "wood" as far as most wood glues are concerned .

I actually brown papered my original plastic cowl and it was so tough that it never developed any splits or chips over continuous flying for six years !

Holy old thread alert Batman, did you ever finish your LA7 off Graham? I have two or three unfinished airframes and was about to dig another kit out to start but for a change have shown a bit of restraint and decided to finish off the part finished ones first. I spent this afternoon shaving wood off one half of the LA7 wing, hopefully i can get the other half sorted this coming week so i can join them together, now i have picked it up again i am determined to see it through to the finish.

LA-7 update. My LA-7 had it’s maiden flight yesterday and the sound effects were louded with each circuit. Richard landed it just in time, as the picture shows. Guess it was my fault and that I can’t blame Richard. I thought that the cowl was a pretty tight fit and didn’t need any screws. Be warned.

Yes the prop and cowl situation was .... amusing . But the model flew very well . It was the first time I had flown an electric version as mine is till OS52 powered .

Graham made a nice job of it as usual (all bar one screw , apparently they are hard to come by in West Sussex ) . After the test flight and prop destruction , we both flew it . Very forgiving and benign . Felt very light in the way it handled at low speed . Any idea of the weight Graham ?

This is the second one Ive had after giving away the prototype . MK2 has over a thousand flights , the previous was way over that !

Note the 35mhz receiver ariel . That is the only update . Now on "DAB "

Some models dont know when to call it a day do they ?

A little retail therapy was needed so I've just put an order in for one of Richard's P51 Mustangs. I know I shouldn't have as I've a number of unfinished projects - the Brian Taylor Chippy is now coming to a conclusion after a couple of years - but the P51 looks to be nice and straightforward, a good size but that'll still go in the Mondeo Estate in one piece and will be electric powered for covenience and not having to worry about fuel proofing. Need something fresh to get my teeth into and get some focus again - you know how it is..........

Not sure about retracts at the moment, I have a couple of sets of electric retracts that will be of the right size but I might have to have a think about them. Don't worry, a fixed undercart is out of the question.

Unfortunately, the P51 project is now a non-starter as Richard no longer has them available. Disappointing, but I had a very nice note from him explaining the situation and the commercial environment he has to work with these days.

Three years on from saying that I was going to do it, the unanimous decision by the "What Aeroplane To Build Next" selection board at the field yesterday will see my WR Junkers Ju88 kit make the short journey from upstairs storage to downstairs workshop in the next few days for this winter's main project. The Ju88 took pole position, beating off strong opposition from the Chris Golds Boulton Paul Defiant, Priory Silhouette and WR Hawker Tempest. Will put a few piccies up in here once she gets underway.

I highly recommend a mezzanine workshop extension - best idea I've ever had and made totally usable by the builder persuading me that a proper staircase rather than an access ladder would make it much more useful. Difficult to not stand on the landing and ask yourself "Is everything up?" The lot Sir "Reserves?" None. "That's what I just told the Prime MInister....."workshop2020-135.thumb.jpg.48679db8c6c256bf7d00a29df8b5abaa.jpg

The 110 is an existing kit that is already proven and on our computer ready to cut . The Heinkel is a one off . So with the commitment to design a new Mossie there is not the resource nor incentive to make Heinkel's . Martin Collins has lent me some moulds for a 72" He111 , but I am just going to try and vac form him a set of plastics and perhaps cut a foam wing . That is a long way from what I would call a kit . Although the 110 was popular with those that built and flew it , there is always a limited demand for Luftwaffe aircraft among our group . Ive been flying a 110 today , testing a simpler and cheaper, but still robust undercarriage design . Seems to work well , so the 110 should be more user friendly than ever before .

Ok Richard, stick me down for one, i/c fittings, plus a retract package 👍

On the 111 front, as and when, for a set of wings and glazing, long way off , No probs,

Cheers

Graham ( Cornwall )

Hopefully meet up at Buckminster next year for the WR " fly in " 😉

Is this a good place to start a Bf110 thread ? ( I dont have time to build another one right now , but maybe somebody will do a few pictures .

If not , we can at least see who is still up for it ?

Ron , advise on location please .

I'm still up for a Bf110 kit please Richard, complete with the retracts that you were looking into working up.
