David Ovenden
Interesting idea to use a large glider as an airborne turbine to produce electricity - but is it really very feasible? Glider kite turbine
Ron Gray
I would have thought that a balloon would have been better.
David Ovenden
Sorry about the duplication. I see Martin K had already spotted this and started a thread.

It's the kinetic energy of the plane circulating that is being converted to electricity; I don't think a balloon could do that very effectively. Also the plane requires no expensive gas to remain airborne

For sure it works. But how much time, money and man-hours would be needed to keep it aloft. I imagine it would need to have a "crew" available to get it up and down as needed and would the energy it might produce offset that investment? Alex Ferguson 2
Practicality? You're joking..... Global warming reduction? Only by reducing people.

Chris Packham. Said this ages ago and I have been saying it too. In 1977 the population of the world was 3.5 billion. Now it is over twice that. MattyB
Interesting, but I think the Minesto tidal kites we have discussed before might be more promising - after all the tide is entirely predictable and doesn't stop without warning like the wind can...
