Adrian Smith 1
Lovely plane, Paul. It's been chucking rain down all day here in Suffolk! ☹️
David Ashby
A short break for us, down on the Dorset coast, so the Weasel Trek went in the car. It’s had a couple of sessions from Portland cliffs in lovely smooth lift over the sea. I’m always amazed just how well this lightweight wing penetrates. In other news a seagull swooped down and nicked Mrs A’s hoisin duck wrap from her hand. I made the mistake of laughing too long.

Ron Gray
Yes it does work Eric, and a nice bit of flying. You’ve also reminded me that I’ve still got that kit to build, my intention was for it to be powered by a Laser 80, like my LA7, but I’m now thinking of leccy instead - shock, horror! I had a Saito 82 in it and it flew great on that, unfortunately a dead flight battery and the ground made a mess of it. I made a new wing built up balsa centre section and depron outer panels with balsa spars and leading and trailing edges. The weight less battery is 6.3 lb. With the same power train as the FW190 it only has a duration of 5mins i can get 8 out of the 190 which is just over half of the Hurricanes weight. Tank position with the Laser would be a problem. Ron Gray
16 minutes ago, Eric Robson said: Tank position with the Laser would be a problem I would mount the engine at approx 45º which is what I did with the LA-7. Jon Harper built one and is running that with a Laser 80 in it.

Jon Harper built one and is running that with a Laser 80 in it. That is how I mounted the Saito. A very light engine it took a lot of ballast to balance. The Laser is a lot cleaner so I think I would go for that if it was my choice, I still had to add weight with the 4s 3600, a 5000 would give a better duration but I went with what I had and would have to modify the fuselage to take the bigger battery. Skipped building today, warm and light wind 8.5 min flights with the FW190 + the IC Acrowot. Sorry 😞
Ron Gray
Today was a lovely day for flying but I couldn’t go, still I’m at Old Warden tomorrow and another club day on Sunday.
GrumpyGnome
Went and mowed the field. With a little petrol walk-along mower as our ride-on is broken. In the same timescale, our farmer landlord planted seeds in a field 5 times the size of ours... Took about 3.5 hours and because the grass was long and damp, the grass collector was sub optimal so raking may be needed tomorrow. Would have been rude not to test each area as I mowed, so flew my Double Trouble and SE5 a few times. At home resting my aching knees, adding lubrication in the form of some Old Peculier. Dunno if it'll reach my knees, but it tastes hood!
Futura57
A lovely flying day at Epsom Downs race course today. Preparations for the Derby have begun. Half a dozen members took advantage of the warm weather and gentle winds. I tried a spot of banner towing with my KK Student and dusted the cobwebs of my EFlite Ultimate 3D for some blenders, knife edge and low inverted flight.
GrumpyGnome
At the field right now.... cooler than the forecasts, windier than the forecasts, greyer than the forecasts. Just the two of us so far...

Eric Robson
Lovely day warm light wind and blue skies. 6 hrs of good flying and company. The Hunter flew great after its paint job, mostly flew the Acrowot.
leccyflyer
Aye, a lovely warm day, albeit with the most awkward possible wind direction, which got stronger as the day wore on. Nevertheless some great fun and nice models on show, with a great turnout. Successful maidens for my Balsacraft Hurricane and spare FW190, but given a seventh failed handlaunch of the TN Jet Provost I decided it was best to save the Flightline Spitfire for a better day, so she stayed in the car.

Never again! Typically, I take at least 3. But I couldn't be bothered to take yesterdays collection out from around the mower. Conditions were different today, so I squeezed some more in 🙂 Several stayed grounded due to the wind - not hugely strong, but in THE worst direction. Kevs excuse is that he has a van and may as well fill it - there are more out of shot.
leccyflyer
Agreed - I flew eight out of the First XI models that I took with me yesterday and was able to pick and choose which ones to fly. It would have been nine if the Jet Provost hadn't performed it's signature climb, half roll and tent peg manoeuvre, ending up fifteen feet in front of us, with the canopy pointing back towards us. It's done that six times previously, but mostly over the long grass, so no damage. I thought I'd cured an identified issue with asymmetric elevator movement, but that wasn't the case and this time I didn't get away with it. Category B damage, but it might be time to retire the Provost for a permanent patrol hanging from the ceiling.

Seeing the carnage in the back of my van, and the dents in the steel partition caused by models and equipment after an accident . Personally I wouldn't pack a plane like that (even foamies have potential to cause injury)

Personally I wouldn't pack a plane like that (even foamies have potential to cause injury) I pad the models for the journey with the separated parts of my foam model stand, plus a blanket and spare fleece kept just for that purpose. When I get to the field those pads are removed to access the model _) i have nearly a four hour round trip to and from the field , mostly on country roads and the number of dings and dents are kept to a minimum. In the event of an accident my main concern would be with batteries and flight box, stored safely in the space immediately behind the front seats with minimal wiggle room.

I have a Tony Ninjus gnat ,the larger one .I had similar problems getting it airborne .I bought a hobby king catapult .I get a mate to hold the fin ,give it full beans then activate the catapult ,this works great .I have had many successful flights doing this
jeff2wings
Well a real milestone for me today, maiden flight of my o/d Sorceress 1 and o/d designed/made engine, had too swap out the carb a couple of times before I was happy too fly it,once airborne only required a couple of clicks of down trim ! Best of all was super smooth and tracked well in basic loops and rolling manoeuvres, absolutely chuffed 🙂
Ron Gray
I’ve just got back from a most enjoyable club day. Excellent weather, great company, good food and 4 flights each with the Giant Revolver and Mustang and unfortunately only 1 with the FW190 as I broke a prop on landing! Totes cream crackered now.
