Never mind the weather - who has been flying, then?

Recommended Posts

Got a couple of models to test fly so took the opportunity this morning to get one flown, very windy conditions but the Escapade handles them ok, flew very nicely, Irvine 46 powered which ran without missing a beat once i had put the tank pipes round the right way. Previous owner had got 2 clunks in the tank, presumably so it can be drained through the filler tube, shame he had that one connected to the exhaust silencer as a breather! I thought i had filled the tank rather quickly and there was an awful lot of fuel coming out of the exhaust after i had finished filling. Engine was also obviously full of fuel as i was trying to start it so i tipped it up and emptied the fuel out of the exhaust and cylinder, after starting it didn`t want to tune up properly and then stopped suddenly like it was out of fuel.........which it was! With the pipes connected up this way i was not filling the tank, i was filling the silencer, so tank out, check which pipes go to what inside and re plumb, put it all back and all was then good. Also it had a huge amount of lead under the engine, more than half of which i removed to get it to balance correctly, nice flier now, how someone had flown it like that i don`t know! Three of us braved the wind this morning and this should have been a three ship picture, we were waiting for him to land but unfortunately his model had an unplanned meeting with the ground and was most definitely re kitted 🥺.

Advert

First time for 12 days in the North East, black clouds all round but the rain missed us, 4 braved the not very warm wind. Managed to maiden my Warbirds Replicas Yak9  after major repairs. Had 3 good flights before the wind became stronger. Note the occupied cockpit Brian and Ron!

Tents up, kids are chasing each other round the campsite, we got some use out of the tethered car track and the J60 has opened the scoring on quiet evening flying at Buckminster.

Not too windy but an awkward direction. I made the executive decision to move the one man pilots box in to the middle of the main runway and land across it.

Time for a glass of wine I think.

Bottom photo with the main runway running left to right there is a shorter runway on your right that runs 90 degrees to the main. As long as the CL or fun flyers are not using their patch you could have used that especially as it looks very busy!

I used the little "horseshoe" section opposite the main pits. Landed, hot swapped the battery from my pocket, and carried on for a second flight. It's a shame that grey cloud has come over and just dropped the light slightly, or I'd be out with another couple of packs.

Yes, we fly every day. We have 11 pilots.

A bit of a windy day today but not bad enough to stop the maiden flight of Chris' mighty Tigercat (powered by 2 x Laser 310 flat twins). Chris will upload the vids I took himself later on but here are some stills for you to drool over in the meantime:

Another nice evenings flying at Buckminster - the Junior 60 hasn't seen this much use since I was practicing for my "A". The runway here is so nice, I like to get my moneys worth out of it by landing as far down wind as possible and carry on the landing roll in to a "flying taxi" back to the box. 😂

A nice visit to Shuttleworth through the day today, I still can't decide which 1/4 scale WW1 project I want to do. The RC club there was just getting in to the swing of things as we left. A beautiful old Flair Hannibal, probably older than me, flew beautifully.

That's a cracking looking model. Looking forward to any video.

Chris should hopefully upload a couple, one of the first flight and one of the second (complete with scary take off) after a bit of an engine retune. There is a fair bit of wind noise as my remote mic seems to have stopped working!

Just back from a nice blast in the sunshine this morning. Since I last flew the crop has be cut and removed (barley I think). All good then.

Out came the Sbach 342. Looking at my records I noticed I have been flying her for over 5 years, but doesn't seem like it. She is still so much fun though.

My time this morning was interspersed by tractors roaring down the old runway adding to the heaped hay bales and generating a huge amount of dust threatening to engulf me! 🤧

I don't complain though as the farmers here still seem to want to farm and not carpet their land with solar panels or potentially concrete over the countryside with new housing in an inappropriate place like here out in the sticks. However, with the increase in housing targets who knows that might change ............. 😒 I don't want to think about it.

Proud dad moment!

I try and have one whole day of flying on our summer holidays at Buckminster, and today was the day! Couldn't have picked a better day. Plenty of RC flying on the Big Ugly Acrowot and J60, then headed over to the very busy CL circles.....

The boys first build was maidened for us by the guys getting ready for Nats - it flew perfectly straight off the build board (LE CoG was right), and we both received some instruction on a CL "trainer" the guys keep stashed just in case of interest. The boy done good! Full solo flight on his fourth go. The chaps are now scheming to get him entered to the racing event for Nats this weekend (much to the Long Haired Admirals annoyance, who was looking forward to another day out tomorrow 😂).

It looks like there'll be a lot of tiny diesels in our near future.........

A bit cooler over here in the mornings, I have been flying all sorts of things, so I won't bore you, but I have had a few eye sight problems lately,

especially 3 D flying with my Raptor 50, I have gone back to the glasses that I bought in the 90,s ( Never throw anything away ) heat and /or old age ?.
